Jean Marais, known professionally as MoShang, is a South African downtempo musician and producer from Bellville, Western Cape. He began his career as a choral singer during the early 1980s in Cape Town. Marais gained recognition as the lead singer and frontman of the art rock band Duusman and as a saxophonist for Tsunami. In 2003, he relocated to Taichung, Taiwan, where he released his debut album Made in Taiwan (2004) under his Onse Plate imprint. He released the albums Chill Dynasty (2006) and Asian Variations: Various Artists Remixed by MoShang (2007), and the EP Stone Bell (2008). His music featured in the Discovery HD production Fantastic Festivals of the World, and he won the audio category of the Ubuntu 9.04 Free Culture Showcase in 2009 for his song "Invocation". Marais released Further East (2010) on the Lemongrassmusic label and completed the original score for the National Geographic Channel documentary Koxinga: A Hero's Legacy. He released the album What Comes Around (2012).
