Julian Prégardien, born on July 12, 1984, in Frankfurt am Main, West Germany, is a German lyric tenor in opera and concert. He began his musical education as a member of the Limburger Domsingknaben at Limburg Cathedral before studying at the Musikhochschule Freiburg from 2005 to 2009. His operatic debut came in 2007 with the role of Hermenegild in Fredegunda by Reinhard Keiser at the Prinzregententheater in Munich. Notable roles include Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Jason in Médée, and Nathanael/Spalanzani/Franz/Pitichinaccio in Hoffmanns Erzählungen during his tenure at Oper Frankfurt from the 2009/10 season to 2012/13. He received awards including the MIDEM Classical Award (2007) for Michael Haydn's Requiem in B-Dur and the Orphée d’Or (2009) for Dietrich Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri (2007).
