Lucille Magdalyn Dollinger, also known as Lucy Reed, was born on January 14, 1921, in Marshfield, Wisconsin, and was an American jazz and blues singer. As a teenager, she sang on KSTP radio with a group of four girls while attending Humboldt High School in St. Paul, Minnesota. Her early career included singing with the Jerry Salone Orchestra and performing with her first husband, Joey DeRidder's orchestra. In 1955, she performed with Bill Evans in New York City, followed by shows in Miami in 1956 and collaborations with Dick Marx and Johnny Frigo in 1957. Her notable albums include The Singing Reed (1957) and This Is Lucy Reed (1957). She also released Basic Reeding (1994). She was known for her honest delivery and innate feeling for lyrics. She passed away on July 1, 1998, in Chicago at the age of 77.
