Bobby Henderson Powell is an American rhythm and blues and gospel singer and pianist from Louisiana born in 1943. Powell, who is blind, debuted with the single “What Are You Trying to Do to Me” (1965). Recognition increased with the recording “C.C. Rider” (1966), which reached Number 1 on the Cash Box R&B chart, number 12 on the Billboard R&B chart, and number 76 on the pop chart. Subsequent recordings include the singles “Do Something For Yourself” (1966), which reached number 36 on the R&B chart, and “I'm Gonna Leave You”. His discography includes the single “The Bells” (1971), which reached number 45 on the R&B chart, and the album Thank You (1973). The artist released the album Bobby Powell Explains The Glory Of Love (1981) and performs occasional gospel music concerts.
