Anton Nanut, born on September 13, 1932 in Kanal, was a Slovenian conductor. He studied conducting in his youth and entered the professional scene in the 1950s. He first gained attention as chief conductor of the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra from 1981 to 1998, during which he premiered numerous works and led recordings for labels such as Decca and Philips. His discography includes Berlioz: Symphony Phantastique (1987), Beethoven: Klavierkonzert Nr. 1 In C-dur Op. 15 / Ouvertüre Coriolan Op. 62 (1988), and Ravel: Bolero (1988), among others. Nanut collaborated with more than 200 orchestras worldwide, including the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Berlin RIAS, and the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic. He received the Prešeren Fund Award for his Beethoven interpretations, the Župančič Award, and the Prešeren Award in 2011 for lifetime achievement. Nanut passed away on January 13, 2017.
