Christoph Genz, born March 1, 1971, in Erfurt, is a German operatic tenor. A former member of the Thomanerchor, he studied musicology at King's College, Cambridge, where he sang with the Choir of King's College, before pursuing vocal studies with Hans-Joachim Beyer and Elisabeth Schwarzkopf. After winning the 1995 Grimsby International Singing Competition and the 1996 International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition, he launched an international career, appearing at the Hamburg State Opera, La Scala, and the Semperoper. Genz has performed under conductors including Herbert Blomstedt and Simon Rattle, and has recorded Bach cantatas, the St. John Passion, Mendelssohn's Lobgesang, and Richard Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos. Genz has also pursued a career in arts education, teaching at the International School Dhaka in Bangladesh from 2015 to 2017, before joining United World College Changshu in China, where he served as Head of the Arts Department and later Dean. Since 2022, he has been Director of the Performing Arts Department at UWC Adriatic in Italy.
