Renato Cellini was born on April 24, 1912 in Italy. He began studying piano and cello at a young age, performing his first cello recital at seven. In 1940, he secured his first major conducting appointment at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste. After serving in the Italian army during World War II, Cellini returned to conducting, debuting at the Edinburgh International Festival in 1947 with a performance of The Marriage of Figaro. He later joined the Metropolitan Opera as an assistant conductor and made his New York debut with Verdi's Don Carlos in 1952. In 1954, he became General Director and Conductor of the New Orleans Opera Association. Cellini conducted numerous operas during his tenure in New Orleans, including works by Puccini, Verdi, and Mozart. He passed away on March 25, 1967.
