Lauren can't wait to see her daughter again, to pick her up from university at the end of her first term. But when she arrives at her hall and knocks at room 309, a stranger opens the door.
For a few minutes, Lauren assumes she must have the wrong room, or the wrong floor. Maybe even the wrong building.
But she soon discovers the Evie's not there. She hasn't been there for weeks. So where is she?

With her young son in tow, Lauren sets off on a desperate search into the dark heart of London to find Evie before she’s lost forever…
His previous novel, THE DREAM HOME, is about a family who move into a rambling Victorian house hoping it will be their 'forever home'. But it's not long before they start to uncover secrets contained within those walls, including a hidden room on the top floor. And by the time they realise the past is better left buried, it's already too late...

This absorbing and pacey book was smartly plotted, gripping, intense, and action-packed, with twists that kept on coming.
I screamed when the book's second-to-last twist was revealed.
(Yes, it was that emotionally jolting!)
Strongly character-driven, the riveting story unfolds from the two POVs/timelines of mother/daughter protagonists.
T.M. Logan is a male author, and I was particularly impressed by his ability to articulate the vulnerabilities, mindsets, idiosyncracies, and compelling personas of two female protagonists from different generations.
The angst and desperation experienced by the female protagonists were palpable.
I listened to the audiobook, expertly narrated by Louise Brealey.
Although Louise Brealey did a superb job with the narration, the book would have benefited from two narrators since it unfolded from two POVs.
Wow this was such a good book, I'm now in two minds whether I should let my daughter go to Uni in September!!
Really enjoyed this very scary, twisty physiological thriller, seems like it could be a little too realistic at times and really hope we don't come across anything like this in real life. I have now read all TM Logan's books and have thoroughly enjoyed them all.
Great realistic and well written characters in Lauren and Lucas in the search to find out what has happened to Evie.
Just when you think you've worked it out, everything gets mixed up again and yes, it really will keep you up at night!!
A big thanks to Bonnier Books UK | Zaffre and Netgalley for the chance to preview this arc prior to publishing. It really was a brilliant read.
I'd be interested to see this as a tv series or movie.
I read this one many months ago but never reviewed it. I enjoyed this fast-paced book on audio as a mother desperately searches for her missing college-aged daughter.
I sometimes think ‘another missing person, is the whole of the UK missing?’, when read a blurb……but of course it is a fascinating subject and when done well by an author and it adds something new to the sub genre ( I think it’s one ) you can wave that thought away and enjoy
And T.M.Logan is one of those authors, his books are fast, punchy and all action, no endless coffees but full on thriller pretty much from start to end, as there have been TV adaptions of previous books I read this wondering if it would be the next one and its good enough to be ( I did try my hardest not to have Jill Halfpenny in my mind as the lead character but the mind is a persuasive thing and so ultimately it stuck and I ran with it )
A powerful read, without giving anything away and a tale of a Mum and Brothers shock and then determination and how a family pulls together, a great ‘unexpected set of circumstances’ ( that better than using ‘twist’? ) that surprised us all, characters and reader, that led to a frantic finish
Really good writing and story telling throughout this full on thriller
Definitely gripping and action packed. Starts well, as with all T.M.Logan's books, which I read/listened to all, it's a mystery you are drawn to solve. Unfortunately the reveal is not a psychological/domestic thriller I was hoping for, but drugs, underworld, gangs and criminal past. Very dark and with many coincidences with such naïve 19-year girl/law student that it is hard to believe to be a real person! Definitely many things don't match up- mum's job and then her absolute stupidity/naivety and getting on/off with the low-life criminal, who wants to be the superhero...It's not your usual T.M. Logan...

This book really piqued my interest all the way through. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Louise Brealey, who did a great job.
We see what happens when a mother takes matters into her own hands when she discovers her daughter is missing. Lauren’s daughter, Evie, was supposed to be in university. Lauren had arranged to pick her up at the end of the first term, but when she arrives, she is shocked to find Evie nowhere to be seen and has been missing from the university for some time. The university is on skeleton staff, and they are not very helpful, apart from one security staff member. Since Evie is over 18, the police don’t take things seriously.
We soon discover that Lauren is determined and along the way, a blast from the past returns into her life, exposing a huge secret she has been carrying. The lack of help from the police pushes Lauren into an unknown world filled with danger, violence, and fear.
A mother’s love is on display, and at times, it was frustrating and unbelievable at the situations she experienced. I will stop there as the showdown was off the charts.
So incredibly good. I’ve enjoyed all the previous books by this author so I’m not surprised, it certainly didn’t disappoint. I read his one in a day, luckily a day when not too much else gets in the way because the storyline was seriously fast, compelling and not one to put down for too long at a time. The premise drew me in straight away and was a bit too real an terrifying, seeing as I have a similarly aged daughter who may well choose to go off to uni in the not so far off future. It’s terrifying enough having a child fly the nest to be lost to uni but then to actually vanish and be properly lost in next level real life terror. That’s probably the best part of the writing- the just out of reach but plausibility and the sinking depths of a criminal underworld which draws you in but won’t let you go. Honestly sublime writing and not one to be missed. Next please!
This gripped me right from the beginning when Lauren arrives at her daughter’s university to pick her up for Christmas, only to find she’s vanished without a trace. You can feel her sheer panic, that sickening dread in the pit of her stomach, as she realises something is terribly wrong. The opening chapters were intense, making me race through the pages, desperate to uncover what had happened. However, after that strong start, the pace noticeably slows. The investigation feels drawn out, with Lauren making the same discoveries multiple times in slightly different ways. It started to drag, and I found myself willing the story to pick up again. Some of the twists were intriguing, but others felt predictable or rehashed from similar thrillers. By the time I reached the final act, the story had veered into the implausible. What started as a gripping mystery became increasingly over the top, losing the emotional weight that made the beginning so compelling. Instead of feeling the heart-pounding fear and urgency, I found myself rolling my eyes at some of the extreme turns the plot took. It just didn’t feel believable anymore, which dulled the impact. That said, it wasn’t a bad read—it kept me entertained enough to finish—but I was left underwhelmed. The promise of the opening wasn’t fully realised, and the resolution didn’t pack the emotional punch I’d hoped for. A decent thriller, but not one that will stay with me for long.
With many thanks to Netgalley for this free arc and I am leaving this unbiased review voluntarily. In true Tim Logan style this moves at a blistering pace. Well written with some great characters especially little Lucas who is wonderfully portrayed. Grabs you straight from the first chapter and you just have to keep reading to find out what has happened to Evie. Some great twists along the way make this a captivating and addictive read. Great flow to the book and the additional chapters from Evie added depth to the story. Slightly over-long but other than that a brilliant read.
Oh wow, this was a brilliant read. Twisty, very addictive and thoroughly readable. I love this author's books and this one was up there with the others. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
Im surprised at all the good reviews, as soon as Declan is revealed (no spoilers) it becomes EastEnders. Up to that point it’s brilliant but I absolutely can’t take the ending seriously at all
The Daughter is another edge of your seat thriller by T.M. Logan. I couldn’t put this one down! Lauren goes to pick up her daughter, Evie, from her university hall of residence , only to find she’s nowhere to be found. A nightmare scenario for any parent and Laurens search for her daughter reveals a shocking story. Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Thank you to the publisher for an early copy in exchange for my honest feedback!
I love a missing person’s mystery and especially one where we’re following a civilian rather than a detective. That being said, this story quickly went in a direction that incorporates 2 things I’ve expressed not liking in the past.
Because of this, as the story progresses, I slowly lost interest.
I will say I did enjoy how fast paced this book was and the intensity of the ending, but overall it just wasn’t my vibe. I don’t think it’s bad, but it just wasn’t for me.
Another fab book from this author, loved the premise, kept me guessing. I always enjoy reading Logan's books but I think this might be my favourite so far.
4.5 stars - I have read every one of T. M Logan's books and this is one of his best yet. Lauren turns up at the end of the first university term to collect her daughter and finds out she isn't there anymore, and hasn't been for a while. What I like about T.M. Logan's books is that he knows how to unwind a really riveting plotline, slow enough that you are anxious to know what is happening but quick enough to keep you engaged. This one had quite a few twists that I didn't see coming and I enjoyed the ending. I also really liked how most of this one is set in and around London (most of his books have been based in North England) so I had a better sense for lots of the places in the book. Overall, a really great read that I sped through in about 24 hours and would definitely recommend.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this digital ARC
Ok I was a little bit disappointed in this book,I've really enjoyed all of T M Logan's books but for me this one was a little bit of a nothing read, the characters were a bit weak I'm afraid and the story just lost a bit of umph...I'm sure there will be people who disagree with me but I just wanted to finish my book so I could start another TBR....maybe I was too excited for this book to come out or maybe it's because I had read a really good physiological book before this one but I'm not sure I would personally recommend it sorry T Logan.....
Don't get me wrong, it was an enjoyable read and I liked it. The first half was gripping and really pulled me in. But the ending felt like it was missing something. I kept expecting a twist or some emotional payoff, but it never came. It wasn’t a bad ending, just kind of dull. So maybe 3 stars, because it didn’t quite live up to the promise of the beginning.
That said, I really liked the pacing and the author's writing style, so I’d definitely be interested in reading something else by them.
Another blockbuster from TM Logan. Really enjoyed it although felt the beginning and middle held my interest more than the end. A very update thriller examining today’s problems of grooming and drug trafficking. 4.5 ⭐️
Another gripping story from T M Logan. At first I thought it would be a 4 star, but as the story progressed, and the twists and turns were revealed, l couldn't put the book down and read the second half in one night. Definitely a 5 star for me. Roll on next year for the next book.
What a story. This is the second book I've read by T.M Logan, and what a corker it is!
This is every mums worst nightmare. A missing child with no trace of what happened. When Lauren goes to pick her daught Evie up from the university for her Christmas break, she arrives to find Evie gone, vanished, missing. As panic sets in Lauren is determined to get to the bottom of her daughters disappearance no matter the cost.
Those of you who love T.M. Logan's books are in for a treat with this one. I absolutely loved it. Having a daughter myself, this story hit harder. It heightened all my fears and my anxieties, I raced through page after page, breath held, hands gripped tightly to my Kindle, i needed to find out what happened to Evie.
I'm not going to say much about the plot. It's filled with characters I was rooting for, fast-paced suspenseful, and full of tension. It had me wide-eyed with terror and panic. The twists, oh my, I did not see them coming.
This book won't leave you disappointed. If you haven't already, you need to add this to your tbr immediately.
Huge thanks to Bonnier Books UK and Zaffre for my advanced copy.
T.M. Logan always gets you hooked at the start of a book, I look back fondly on reading The Holiday for the first time and being unable to put it down evading sleep. The Daughter is no different. My problem is in the middle and end of his most recent books, they lose me and sadly the same happened with The Daughter. It reminded me of The Curfew and it's one of my least favourite reads by T.M. Logan. I think I might have to reread 29 Seconds and Lies for a classic T.M. Logan thrill!
I’d not read a book by this author for a while but I found it such a good one! I was hooked from the start. I loved the fast pace and twists along the way. One or two I guessed but it didn’t matter, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
4.8⭐️ 𝗤𝗨𝗜𝗖𝗞 𝗣𝗟𝗢𝗧 𝗣𝗘𝗘𝗞 Lauren heads to her daughter Evie’s university, expecting a happy reunion - but a stranger opens the door to Evie’s room. Turns out Evie hasn’t been seen for weeks. What follows is a frantic search through London, with Lauren and her teen son Lucas racing to uncover the truth before it’s too late.
𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗬 𝗧𝗔𝗞𝗘 I was hooked at the get and I actually ended up reading this in one day! The pace is quick and the mystery just pulled me in.
Lauren’s desperation felt so real, and I liked the bond between her and her son Lucas - it gave the story some real heart.
Getting Evie’s POV added even more depth. It showed how easily she was drawn into the situation that led to her disappearance, which made it all the more exciting.
Not gonna lie, the ending stretched believability for me and I didn’t get the emotional gut-punch I wanted. It tied things up neatly, but I wanted a bit more impact.
𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗛 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗? This is one of my favorites of the year and I’m reminded of why I keep coming back to T. M. Logan. It’s a fast, character-driven thriller with plenty of heart - and I loved it.
Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for this #gifted ARC.
