it was amazing
bookshelves: roman-plays, shakespeare, english-16th-c, theatre, plutarch-plays

I was previously unfamiliar with this masterpiece and now find it to be truly one of Shakespeare's most majestuous works and Cleopatra to be one of his most epic and eloquent heroines. One can never tire of reading the description of her progress on the Nile (which Shakespeare adapted from Plutarch with his own unique poetic vision as described by MacCallum in Shakespeare's Roman Plays and Their Background). I would highly recommend MacCallum but also the reading of Julius Caesar before this one to get a feel for how he molds the Anthony character.

Ivana Books Are Magic One of Shakespeare's most underrated plays. Powerful stuff!

message 2: by William (new)

William I enjoyed the written play quite a bit, but the extraordinary production at the South Bank was both flashy and yet dull.
