One of these things is not like the other.
Notes:
(1) Students find it odd that Umbridge wears a pink cardigan. Not so much because it’s ugly, but mainly because it’s muggle attire. You know who else wears muggle clothes? Fudge. Umbridge is an insincere flatterer who does, or wears, anything to get to the top. A simple pink cardigan can say a lot about personality.

(1) Well, I'm nearly finished with this. Now I've got to hunker down and write my review. I simultaneously hate writing reviews but love finishing reviews. It's like exercise, and Harry Potter reviews are especially stressful and demanding on account of the extra attention.

(1) "Cornelius, I am ready to fight your men — and win again!"
- Dumbledore giving orders to Fudge while still an enemy of the state is one of the series most boss moments.
(2) Phineas Nigellus: "You see, Dumbledore? ... Never try to understand the students. They hate it. They would much rather be tragically misunderstood..."
- A bit cynical, but he's not incorrect.

(1) Neville: "A brain attacked Ron but I think he’s all right — and Hermione’s unconscious, but we could feel a pulse —"
- You'd think all the time fighting with Hermione would have better prepared Ron to fight another brain.
(2) Voldemort calls Bellatrix "Bella"... wonder if he's a "Twilight" fan?
(3) It's easy to forget that people still think Sirius is a murderer.

(1) "[Harry] just wanted to get them all out of this alive, make sure that none of his friends paid a terrible price for his stupidity."
- That's certainly a good reason.
(2) Harry: "How come Voldemort wants it?"
Bellatrix: "You dare speak his name?"
Harry: "Yeah."
- Good answer, Harry. Very forthright.
(3) Ron: "Accio brain!"

(1) Hermione treats Luna like McGonagall treats Trelawney. With open disdain at the mere mention of absurdities, but with affection and friendship when faced against a common enemy.
(2) Harry, Luna and Neville being the only ones who can hear voices behind the veiled archway should have been a light bulb moment, since they're also the only ones who can see thestrals.

Harry: "She got carried away."

a security troll, so —"
Ginny: "I’ve got a broom!"

(1) '"What did you call us?" shouted a wild-looking black centaur, whom Harry recognized as Bane.'
- Bane? I bet he was born in the darkness.
- In my head he's voiced by Tom Hardy.
(2) "Real tears [slid] down [Hermione's] face now. “We haven’t done anything to hurt you ... we just want to go back to school.”
- Of course she wants to go back to school, she's Hermione.

Notes:
(1) Hermione loves elves but hates giants... a bit hypocritical if you ask me. Also ironic since nearly every elf hates her, but Grawp adores her.
(2) 'Harry raised his wand, looked directly at Umbridge, and imagined her being sacked.
"Expecto Patronum!"'
- Sure, that's a happy thought... though, if it were me, I'd add some sort of humiliation to make it extra happy.

Happy you found it insightful, Mrinmayi! One of the major things that was obscured with the films is that wizards don't wear muggle clothes, and the ones who do get pointed out. Like Fudge with his bottle-green pinstripe suit.
I enjoy how the series isn't so obvious with its information. Rowling doesn't draw attention to too many aspects of a person's character. She'll put clues in there to let you figure things out yourself. And if you don't figure it out, you might on a re-read, which is part of the reason why I think this series is so re-readable, you'll notice things you didn't before.
Have you seen the deleted/extended scene focusing on Trelawney as Umbridge makes her speech? It's hilarious!
Sophia wrote: "Have you seen the deleted/extended scene focusing on Trelawney as Umbridge makes her speech? It's hilarious!"Just took a look at that now! You're right, it's really great. Some people just can't eat when distracted lol.
A lot of character work in that acting, without even saying a word. Would have loved to turn some of that into a gif :)

Haha just like my sister 😄
Totally! Her acting is phenomenal. Just the right amount of humour and awkwardness!

So much good stuff in that scene, it's a shame they didn't use any of it.
The hypocrisy is wild. But honestly , umbridge makes such a unlikable and great villian ,unlike voldemort , who some people are able to have sympathy for ... And with some who even like him? I guess from what I've heard🤷
Jayson wrote: "So much good stuff in that scene, it's a shame they didn't use any of it."I agree. I love watching the deleted scenes. Most of the time it brings some necessary context to scenes that may have confused you at first.
Layla wrote: "The hypocrisy is wild. But honestly , umbridge makes such a unlikable and great villian ,unlike voldemort , who some people are able to have sympathy for ... And with some who even like him? I gues..."Voldemort, as a character, has to be at least somewhat likable and persuasive. Otherwise he wouldn't have been able to amass an entire army of followers and Death Eaters as an orphan without a powerful family.
Umbridge is different. She's entirely unlikable. Even when she's sucking up to Fudge, I doubt he likes her as much as finds her an agreeable subordinate. As seen in the whole denial of Voldemort's reappearance, he has no time for people who don't agree with him on everything, or at least pretends to.
Umbridge's following at Hogwarts comes from a position of power, and hinges on the power she can bestow on people. That's different from Voldemort, who came from nothing and built a power base on persuasion alone.
Well , I guess that makes sense, he did always have a lot of charm in the memories that Harry watched in the 6th book which gave him his loyal minions
Sophia wrote: "I agree. I love watching the deleted scenes. Most of the time it brings some necessary context to scenes that may have confused you at first."I agree. There's a certain thing to be said about pacing and brevity. But deleted scenes were originally supposed to be used, otherwise they wouldn't be filmed, and offer the complete picture as originally intended.
I find that often filmmakers spend so much time on production that they're too acquainted with a story, forgetting that first-time viewers might need scenes they decided to take out.
Layla wrote: "Well , I guess that makes sense, he did always have a lot of charm in the memories that Harry watched in the 6th book which gave him his loyal minions"He was certainly able to charm forbidden knowledge out of Slughorn with relative ease. I'm sure his abilities of persuasion and charisma only increased as he gained power.
Jayson wrote: "I agree. There's a certain thing to be said about pacing and brevity. First one that comes to mind is a scene in the first Twilight film.
I understand that. A picture forms in your mind and it's hard for that image to change.
Sakshi wrote: "That's it I'm never wearing a pink cardigan again!"Prudent decision, all things consider. Though I'm sure you'd be able to pull it off, and not seem evil at all :)

I agree. It's often a fine balance that needs to be struck between clarity and pace. I'm afraid I've never seen the "Twilight" films, so I can't say what scenes were better off deleted. From its reputation, it might seem like the whole thing would be better off deleted lol... though I'm of the opinion that it can't be nearly as bad as people say, and I might actually watch it one day. Who knows? I could very well enjoy it :)

Although, I was a huge fan of the Twilight books and even I can agree the first film was pretty cringe worthy.
The last few films are definitely the best. Just keep that in mind if you do decide to watch them :)
