2025-26 Faculty Highlights
The University of Minnesota awarded Professor Nicholas Bednar ’16 the McKnight Land-Grant Professorship last year. The McKnight Land-Grant Professorship is designed to advance the careers of outstanding junior faculty members who have been identified as having the potential to make significant contributions to their departments and to their scholarly fields. Bednar joined the University of Minnesota Law School faculty in 2023 as an associate professor of law. He specializes in administrative law, executive-branch politics, immigration, and quantitative methods. His research has appeared in the American Political Science Review, the Cardozo Law Review, the George Washington Law Review, the Stanford Law Review, and Political Science Research and Methods, among others. He teaches torts, as well as legislation and regulation.
Amna A. Akbar was hired as the Benjamin N. Berger Professor in Law
Oren Gross was named the Everett Fraser Professor of Law
Sam J. Merchant was hired as an Associate Professor of Law
Fionnuala D. Ní Aoláin was appointed to the Council of State of Ireland by President Catherine Connolly, and appointed as a Commissioner to the United Nations Independent Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic.
