Issues unresolved
Game starting in VR mode by default
By default, the game tries to start in VR mode. This is problematic for players who don't want to play in VR mode, as it will launch the VR middleware and reconfigure sound playback settings. A possible workaround involves starting the game using the Steam library (instead of Steam's start bar) and using a 2nd available option. Alternatively, a Steam game shortcut can be created and then edited to use the URL steam://rungameid/739630/2 to start a second available launch option from Steam. Unfortunately, the game will likely still change a recording device to a VR headset, even when using a non-VR launch option, which may introduce issues with the voice recognition the game uses.[4][5]
Conflict between item/player physics update rate and FPS/Refresh rate
Around the 0.11.0 update, the update rate of item physics and player movement was capped at 60 per second. As a result, rendering the game at frame rates higher that 60fps and then viewed on displays greater than 60hz results in a graphical bug when moving side to side, notably when also moving the mouse. This is perceived as a kind of glitchy motion blur during player and item movement, likely the result of interpolated frames between the main frames being out of sync with the internal update rate. This is only visible when both the frame rate and the display refresh rate are above 60fps and 60hz respectively. This issue was confirmed by Shuee, the Quality Assurance Lead for Kinetic Games, on the Phasmophobia Discord.[6]
While there is no current fix for this problem, a work around is to either cap the game's framerate at 60fps using your GPU Control Panel (the in-game refresh rate settings appear to be non-functional) or to set the refresh rate of your monitor to 60hz. The former is preferable since rendering additional frames on a game locked at 60 updates per second likely will provide no advantage and can also introduce additional display latency from running at lower refresh rates.

- "Unfortunately currently this cannot be 'fixed' since the item physics are locked to 60, so player is also locked to 60. Changing this would destroy FPS globally at the moment. There are many improvements coming in future updates though, so potentially something for a future date."
