i might sound crazy but isn't this evidence you can't die in the metaverse?? ryuji got caught up in an explosion, fell down from a great height from where he was hanging on the sinking ship's deck, and either crashed on debris up in flames or the water below (which from the height he was up in would've been deadly regardless) but he was simply spat out from the palace, in full consciousness. if he managed to survived that, couldn't akechi have survived 2 bullet wounds??? futaba's comment about his signal being gone in this logic could be explained by him being ejected out from the metaverse upon his 'death'...
