DS9 as a show dares to ask the important questions, like for example “would Star Trek still be good if it was set at the food court at the mall??” and the answer to that is “yes, and actually it will somehow be better”

Star Trek shouldn't be about saving the entire galaxy and cinematic fight scenes. It should be about what kind of moral dilemmas of the week they can explore with a budget of four cups of coffee, props stolen from other studio sets, and 10 dollars

it IS true that deep space nine is very much in conversation with the next generation and you should probably watch the latter before seeing the former to get everything it's trying to get across, but, on occasion, watching ds9 without having seen tng is extremely funny

theres something about being disabled and needing to sit down constantly in public spaces that makes you notice how often benches are put up as tributes and memorials. and before i hit an age where i really started to need them as frequently i think i never fully understood the sentiment but now its become very endearing to me. a bit of relief and care for you in the name of someone who offered us the same… i dont think i had a point with this post but i hope everyone thats been memorialized as such knows how loved they were to become synonymous with respite even to total strangers

Quark schmoozing the health inspector while Rom throws out everyone's uncovered drinks in the kitchen. Quark sitting on a milk crate smoking a cigarette. Nog arguing that he's not late because it's less than 7 1/2 minutes from the hour and the timeclock hasn't switched over yet. Quark yelling at a waiter for using the three compartment matter reclamator wrong.

My absolute favorite Alexander Siddig story - and oh boy I have a lot of favorites - is that one day he noticed everyone on the DS9 set was suddenly asking him these weird very carefully phrased gentle questions like hey buddy, how you doing? you feeling alright? Can we get you anything? you know you can always come to us for help if you need it and he was like wtf why is everyone being weird and it turned out that he had been showing up to set late and generally looking tired and the whole crew thought he had gotten into hard drugs but in reality what he was doing was staying up till 4 AM every night playing Ultima Online
