about

Bandcamp freebie time! Feel free to nab it as is, or pay a little toward the work if you want me to think you're wonderful! May have released a few days sooner but have felt under the weather a bit this week. Don't ya just hate migraines?!! Anyway, got it all done and here it is. Don't forget the new album I've also just released: andypickford1.bandcamp.com/album/the-last-mezzanine-king
I know you've got to pay for that one but c'mon... you know you want to! lol

All the stuff I've done since Expurgations Vol 1, expurgated :-)
The super long tracks are really vast elaborate chillout sessions, initially improvised then subsequently adorned with this, that and the other.
Much use of UHe Hive 2 here, along with contributions from Monopoly, BARP2600, Omnisphere and Korg MS20. Still quite long (especially the mix), absorbing and immersive. Everything's in Dolby Atmos, 24bit wav. Sounds great on headphones but I actually mix using my monitors too so I know it sounds great on loudspeakers.

This and The Last Mezzanine King are the first albums to employ new mastering tech. Because these tracks are edits of the original long versions, it's not so prevalent. Until recently mastering Atmos recordings was a bit like quantum physics - a million theories and no real way to tell which one works. Precious few dedicated mastering tools were available and those which were all cost as much as a hardware synth. Now I've got some very good affordable plugins by Toneboosters (cost about £25 each), which are not only designed with Atmos mastering in mind, but they also do 7.1.4 as a native option, allowing for true audiophile mastering of the Atmos tracks themselves. They don't collapse the sound field. The results sound fantastic - just as my ears hear the music when it's made.
