Communications Networks, Content and Technology

This Commission department develops and implements policies to make Europe fit for the digital age.

Responsibilities

The Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG Connect) works on shaping Europe's digital present and future. We support, fund and regulate digital and frontier technologies to strengthen our democracy and to make Europe safe, more competitive and technologically sovereign. We enforce the European rulebook for online platforms, digital markets and artificial intelligence (AI).

DG Connect strives for Europe to become a leading continent in AI innovation, unlock the potential of data, boost digital infrastructure and connectivity and promote digital skills. We aim for European independence in strategic digital technologies.

We help defend the EU against cyber and hybrid security threats and counter disinformation. We enforce laws to create a safer digital space, as well as fairer online markets. We support the freedom of media and help fund the creative sector.
