about

"Terrenus" is an exploration in purely electronic sound, and although much electronic music is characterized as “space music”, "Terrenus" is much more accurately portrayed as “earth music.”

This album follows along similar lines to David Lee Myers’s "Frontier" (2022) which also keeps its feet firmly on the ground. Faraway cloudy countrysides and foggy riverbeds are conjured up, and one can easily imagine vaguely drawn maps intended to guide explorers through these ill defined territories.

Myers is well known for his focus on feedback principles in music creation. It is true that this can result in shrieks of cacophony and siren wails, but not necessarily, as seen here. Delays and other processors are force-fed their own outputs via matrix mixers, samples are captured and looped randomly, and joined by various other electronic elements to create soft beds of abstract sound.

David Lee Myers is a sound and visual artist living in New York City. He has had over sixty recordings released under his own name and also as Arcane Device. He has collaborated with Gen Ken Montgomery, Thomas Dimuzio, Ellen Band, Marco Oppedisano, Merzbow, Toshimaru Nakamura, and Dirk Serries (VidnaObmana). He created two albums with the legendary electronic pioneer Tod Dockstader, and five other albums with Hamburg’s master sound manipulator Asmus Tietchens. Myers has performed his sounds and visuals at New York’s Generator, The Kitchen, Roulette, Experimental Intermedia, Knitting Factory, Clocktower, MoMA/PS1, Outpost Artists Resources, Trans Pecos and Silent Barn, as well as the San Francisco Electronic Music Festival, Boston Museum of Modern art, among others. This is Myers’s fourth album in Crónica, following "Superpositions" (134~2017), "Reduced to a Geometrical Point" (173~2021) and "Strange Attractors" (203~2023).
