What Makes You Think This Is How It All Ends?

VI 03:08
i tried to move on. i turned the page and there’s nothing left. a cover closed. i’m dealing with the aftermath. i see your ghost tear through dreams and memories. it fuels the haunting repeating now inside of me. and it’s all that I have left. swimming circles in my head. never letting go again. though I’m tortured to forget
2.
may your anchor hold weight. may your heart. may it never break. but christ i hope it hurts. like hell. christ i hope it hurts
3.
forward motion. the only way back around. to the origin. of where i first heard the sound. of your whisper. a deafening sonic bliss. when you told me. that i wasn’t meant for this. that we maybe could win. face the fire together. there’s no more time to get settled. i swear as we press on i’ll be prepared. i should be first to head to battle. but selfishly so glad you’re here. and at its core. this war has long been over. but you never quit. not even when you watched me give in. it's time i face this on my own. but i know you just won’t let me go. it's time i face this on my own. but i know i sure won’t

Endless 06:48
sleepless, endless. night just turns to day again. my heart, absent. tied to each and every breath. i’ll lie, fake it. fight and be here til the end. this is endless. further than my existence
6.
Gaps 05:03
everything, falls out of place again. and i can feel my sins. building up, under my skin. until it all but breaks me now. and i’ve been up for days. trying to figure it out. falling through the ground. into gaps in the sound. i’ve got to get it back. if just to settle me down
7.
i think i’ve had enough of this. i fear you might just call it quits. just when i thought i had figured out. i need you to save me from my self. (it shouldn’t have taken so long). (i promise that you are my home)
8.
if this is over, can we bury it? you said there’s nothing left. nothing to pull you in. i’ll do better, i’ll write songs again. i don’t remember where the feeling went. that made me want this. drove me further in, into the darkness. into its consequence. but it hurts more now. (i can’t save you). than it ever did. so either save us all. (save us all). (i can’t help you). or let me sink. pulled back from the brink. say to me “what makes you think. this is how it all ends? feeling the same. you don’t need to live. this cold, dark life alone. i will find a home for us
9.
sleep. wake up. sleep. don’t wake up
10.
i hear the patterns within the static. won’t make a difference, not with the haptics. so is it finally time to come to terms. with these nightly warning visitors. but how do we know. this should be the end. won't we stand again. or let it all go. burn the bridges and leave behind the dead. and allow for new life to begin. governed by fossils, transistors and paper. no mercy upon us, too late to do better. so is it time to finally come to terms. with the final words from our messengers. but how do we know. this should be the end. won't we stand again. or let it all go. burn the bridges and leave behind the dead. and allow for new blood to bleed in. we haven’t slept for weeks. or are we dreaming. i can touch the sun. you can taste the sea air. down on our knees. sights set on nowhere. their sights set on high heads. our heads are bent. they’ve lied through their teeth. since the day we were born. they knew how this would end with our graves on the shore. while the avian creatures they fall from the sky. in the distance the unmanned machines all collide. with their engines on fire and their batteries burned. it's our funeral pyre, that’s just what we deserve. if you’re fearful then bury your head in the sand. if you trust me then look up and give me your hand

about

All Platforms: orcd.co/athletics-what

An album whose creation spans several years from beginning to end, ATHLETICS and Deep Elm Records present "What Makes You Think This Is How It All Ends?" The stunning new 10 track album is available now on all platforms worldwide.

Spending 2024 writing, recording, rehearsing, touring, traveling and performing together reignited Athletics' desire to complete their exploration of the five "Ws" (who, what, where, why, when). Following the conceptual style of "Who You Are Is Not Enough." this new full-length stands on its own as a collective of the powerful and moving guitar-based songwriting the band is well known and respected for throughout the world.

"With this being the last piece in our exploration of the five Ws, we have incorporated some homage to the previous records in motifs, themes, titles and even songs. This record is the first significant piece of writing that came from our bassist Zach. His influence can be heard throughout the record, and shines specifically on ‘Like Hell’, ‘Two Circles’ and ‘You Are My Home’. This is also our first record that was entirely self produced, with our own Jimmy Boyce leading on engineering, producing, mixing and mastering. The influence of Jimmy’s production and performance style is overwhelming throughout the record, from complete song development, guitar tone, drum mix and texture, making the record as authentic as possible. This, along with the mix of songwriting style and execution from each of us as individuals, ultimately captures what we hope feels like the perfect closure to this series of five Ws," says Athletics.

Athletics is Jimmy Boyce (guitar), John Cannon (drums), Howie Cohen (guitar, vocals), Garrett Yaeger (guitar, piano, vocals) and Zach West (bass). Artwork by Jimmy Boyce. Band photos by Nick Marraro. Recorded, mixed and mastered at SOBB Studio in Freehold, NJ. Video footage courtesy of TMH Live Shanghai.
