For comparison:

Little-known fun fact: the image of the two astronauts was specifically generated for this meme. Earlier iterations were crude MS Paint drawings.
The 3D model used for the shot is by Domenico d’Alisa, from a project that got cancelled: https://www.behance.net/gallery/50179455/DISCOVERY-(FREE-3D-MODEL-DOWNLOAD)

This is ironic – you’re the one not to have read and understood the comment. Note the last line:
Tell them to move to Poland or Portugal where you can live comfortably with 1/10th of that money.

21·2 days agoTafoni are commonly defined as small (less than 1 cm) to large (greater than 1 meter) cavity features
So if the cavity isn’t under 1cm, isn’t over 1m, and isn’t anywhere in between, it’s not a tafone. That’s handy to know.

Some quick examples from that corner of the web.

Baguette is genuinely a diminutive, but the French is a loanword from Italian bacchetta “little stick,” from bacchio “stick.”
Funnily enough, “bacteria” also means “little stick” due to the shape of the first ones seen under a microscope, and the word shares the same etymological root (reconstructed as *bak- in proto-Indo-European), but in Greek – bakterion is a little staff, baktron is a staff or stick without the diminutive.

science@lemmy.world•Alarming pet food study is causing great concern among dog and cat ownersEnglish
3·7 days agoI don’t know if there have been studies on it, but anecdotally, the diet of a pet can have a significant impact on its longevity – a matter of years.
If it’s true, it’s still probably multifaceted – there’ll be considerations like nutrition, likelihood of more general care for the animal, etc – but I’d speculate that harmful substances like PFAs seems like a likely factor.

1·10 days agoAs best I can tell, people on Snapchat and TikTok are kicking off “linkups” at an agreed place and time, and some of them are going viral.
I think the aim is genuinely to cause a bit of chaos, given safety in numbers, but I doubt most people attend with the intent of causing serious damage to people or property.
I’ve not seen it, but I think it’s Mads Mikkelsen as Lenny in Bleeder, a relatively obscure 1999 Danish film. If so, it’s the seventh film he was in, but maybe his first leading role.

The gall of knowing let off the worst fart of your life and assuming the resulting smell came from the person opposite farting in response.
There are four teams and one global timer. The timer counts down from 15 minutes. When it reaches 00:00, the game ends.
You sign up and choose your team color - your choices are either green or one of three other, less important colors.
There’s a button to reset the timer to 15 minutes. Pressing it also changes the team who are claiming the time. The winning team will be whoever has ownership of the button for longest during the game, a bit like some Capture the Flag games.
You have just one press of the button available to you, ever (well, until Season 2). You can choose when to press it – for example, I waited until someone else from another team pressed it, and immediately reset it for my team.

For some reason, the repeated misspelling of “Spelunky” as “Speulnky” has really tickled me. I’m genuinely sorry if you’re dyslexic or similar, but “shpoil’n’key” is irrationally funny.
