There Are Now Over 50,000 American Troops in the Mideast

Honestly kind of surprised it’s not higher. So the normal number according to this article is about 40,000? Course I guess it makes sense logistically. It’s cheaper probably to transport them quickly than to house and feed them permanently.
Honestly kind of surprised it’s not higher.
The increase is mostly due to naval assets and US Marines deployments. They can’t deploy much more lest they want to expose their other positions.
Well, come on mothers throughout the land,
Pack your boys off to Iran.
Come on fathers, don’t hesitate,
Send ‘em off before it’s too late.
Be the first one on your block
To have your boy come home in a box.
Cuz it’s one, two, three… What are we fightin for? Don’t ask me I don’t give a damn! Next target is Iran!
‘To get your boy home in a box’ fits the tempo better I think.
To have your boy come home in a box.
People think soldiers fear for their lives, and therefore only go to war for defending the things they care about. But that’s not always the case.
Not all of them have families to get back to. A lot of them are just thugs. They just want to get to kill.
Need at least a million to do anything meaningful
I’m sure we’ll send more than a million once those first 50k sacrificial troops die. Looks like we’re sending just ground troops, no tanks.
I’m sure they are sending film crews with the noble troops to record their demise for the fine American viewers back home. What do you bet trump and hegseth will want to make a tv show out of it. I’d bet real money they will.
Not sure how much you can get done with just 50,000. Invade that one island maybe? I wonder how many troops Israel is contributing to the effort? This is their war after all, there is nothing in it for the US.
Israel yesterday stated they would not be providing any ground troops. Probably too busy sodomizing “prisoners” and going on talk shows.
More than a half of them may return home dead or injured. Or not even return at all. And for what reason? Because of their “imperator” decided to play in war.
50k human sacrifices
This isn’t exactly a dramatic change, the tagline from the article:
The arrival of 2,500 Marines and another 2,500 sailors is keeping the number of American troops in the region at roughly 10,000 more than usual.
That’s ‘a couple extra ships and some additional flightline mechanics and the associated support staff’ numbers. While I’d prefer they were all at home instead of stuck backing up cesspits like Dubai and Doha, this isn’t a particularly huge buildup.

So maybe a hundredth of what’s needed to invade Iran?
More importantly, arriving 4 weeks into active conflict.
Instead of arriving before the bombs started dropping, when they could have been 100x more effective by their mere presence – especially if combined with a full-spectrum diplomatic and economic push with the Democracies of the world as allies.
Jesus Christ, Trump and his cabinet are fucking hubristic-stupid
If that figure is true.
…does anyone else hurt when these things happen?..
The families of our troops.
I meant this unironically. I physically hurt.
Inflammatory stress response. Take an advil and do something that makes a small contribution to making things better.
…like what?..I contact powerful people, I contact neighbors, the indifference to the next meal is infuriating…
You physically hurt who? The people causing it?
I would like to, any suggestions?
holy shit the casualties are going to be terrible
But American will have the element of surprise! /s
Worth noting: Iraq and Iran are very different societies & cultures.
Before colonialism, Iraq was decentralized/tribal for thousands of years before being arbitrarily collected into a single political unit.
Meanwhile Iran was its own empire, with a central head of power for those thousands of years.
90% chance Trump thinks he’s at war with Iraq. Most of those troops couldn’t even find Iran on a map last month.
Trump is just doing the Neocon wack-a-Muslim in the Middle East. Israel told him where to wack.
The history is one thing, even assuming the once golden boy of the West Saddam Hussein was anywhere nearly as politically competent as Khamenei and Iran’s regime is such an unacceptable miscalculation.
They are going to invade Iran, and play up every single death as a way to blame the Dems and every citizen for not supporting Trump. Now its a real war and “oopsie doopsie no can do elections”
This is an important insight. People who support war generally harden their stance once their soldiers begin to fall. It also becomes much easier to guilt and shame others for not supporting the war, framing it as having let those soldiers die in vain. It’s an important instrument in the fascist/imperialist toolkit for stamping out dissent.
And the progressives on here are going to blame democrats for not having more votes to stop this guy and say we need to vote 3rd part to keep his power unchecked.
lol who hurt you?
Progressives are pushing to change local voting systems from FPTP to RCV or Score/Approval/other so that Americans aren’t forced into a vote for the least bad candidate situation. Progressives are pushing progressive primary candidates to pull the whole party to the left, but in the primary voting D.
In the meantime in this current system, always Democrats unless they’re going to win easily, then you can vote your conscience.
Oh, just conversations I’ve had on here with “progressives”
i just dismiss those as trolls trying to wind me up (usually quite successfully, i exist in a state of NEEDS MORE COFFEE). when i was young and stupid and immature (and i had hair!), like in high school my conservative friends and i jokingly campaigned for the green party. we didn’t actually campaign, we just had some buttons on our backpacks. we were too young to vote and all. so like, now those high school trolls are online and they used to be me and know how to push my metaphorical buttons. but i used to be them (and tried to grow out of it, and hope i did) so i kind of understand them a little? does that make sense?
edit: that came out of my mind of course it doesn’t make sense
The minority Republicans were able to interfere with a lot of what Biden tried to do, yet the minority Democrat’s are unable to interfere with Trump’s bullshit?
Why shouldn’t I be frustrated at that?
Republicans were interfering with a president that was playing by the rules. And he was still able to get a lot more done than he is given credit for.
Trump has thrown all rules out the window. At this point the only thing they can effectively do to stop him is impeach him and remove him from office.
No, we’re going to blame you for your desperation to appear non-threatening and say you need to start showing up armed.
Jesus Christ. Can we just band together and do a coup to overthrow Trump and Vance at this point? This is going to be a needless bloodbath on both sides
Yes, what’s the goddamn holdup?
…when a corporation is a government, people do not matter…
Never did. I remember an article shortly back about enlistees feeling like pawns for the current regime, comments beneath unanimously ⁉️♟️🤣
…why do human beings hate each other?..
We are descendants of apes and they are ruthless in beef squashing!
I like you, but I must instantly take the opposite view…/s
The origin story in the modern era is the British East India company
35 million people genocided in 100 years.
Forced cash cropping so that farmers were growing opium, indigo and poppy rather than food.
Increased taxes during drought to pay out more to shareholders back in London.
Throughout thousands of years of Indian history the cultural norm was for taxes to be either reduced of waived during drought.
Extracting human suffering elsewhere for capital at home. That’s what the East India company did. One of the world’s first joint stock corporations.
…are you in a roundabout way saying that trying to extract maximum profit is a bad thing?
Surely if that is one of the origins of corporations it will only get better from there right? Human suffering can’t be foundational to the system, can it? ^^^^/s
What a tart!
They’ve chosen to be complicit.
I’ve been to concerts with well over twice that many people in the crowd
Americans fight for zionists. Zionist first!
Setting the stage for nuking Iran, because a ‘conventional war’ can’t be won?
Can we please turn back time some thirty years?
WHERE DID IT ALL GO WRONG?
I don’t think they would bring in troops if they were going to nuke. Bot who knows?
I don’t know how this ends well, we’re staring at the Rubicon. Didn’t end well for Caesar either.
I fear that it ends with nukes unless trump is stopped.
The excursiom that was aleeady won that was actually a forever war? I’m shocked, shocked I tell you!
And he absolutely doesn’t need help, but it’s a shame that the Europeans won’t help. And he absolutely doesn’t care about the Hormuz, but the Europeans should come in and open it up. Etc. etc.
I hope the Europeans know how to cook. These boys are chubby. Or maybe that’s the plan to make them a little slimmer?
I’ve seen this one before, try Paramount+ or something
No better way of getting Trump supporters out of the US. A silver lining for Americans at least
just like the simulations
As per NYT accounting, there is 5000 cannon fodder. The rest are Naval/air/support. Which other than naval staying far enough away, is also cannon fodder.
Didn’t he declare victory weeks ago? I’m confused.
Just jumping in here before the bags start shipping back to say fuck every single one of these service people. All of them chose to go. All of them chose to serve this lying, fascist government and do the bidding of their corporate patrons. All of them signed up to bomb children. All of them deserve the consequences. Have fun shitting in a bag the rest of your life assholes.
Most of them are probably 18 years old, poorly educated, and raised on Fox News. They’re just pawns that have no idea what’s going on.
Congress on the other hand, knows exactly what they’re doing, and has no moral qualms.
You’re right, but the 18 year olds are probably educated on As
smeinkampfmongold and that is even worse. It’s the troops coming home from Vietnam being spit on and called baby killers again.
And that was the high point for many, as they’d end up addicted and living on the streets shortly thereafter.
Don’t blame soldiers. Blame their government.
Absolutely blame governments. But that doesn’t absolve soldiers from responsibility in a volunteer force. Absolutely blame soldiers for their own misdeeds.
This notion that our service people are somehow these fragile, perfect little angels that deserve nothing but effusive worship is nonsense, and part of how the government enforces its awful, self-serving corruption.
Fuck the soldiers, every single one of them. They signed up to do evil, they deserve to suffer the consequences. Can’t wait to ridicule them when a few of them get back.
You have zero understanding of the military and it shows.
Tell that to the 2 million dead in Iraq. Tell that to the people who suffered in Abu Grhaib. To the little boys who were forced to have sex with their moms, and to the dads who were forced to sodomize their sons and daughters. To the men forced to hold weights with the threat of death, only to have their arms snap in half due to the pressure. To those who were forced to eat their own fecal matter. America, and its military are the greatest evil the modern world has ever known.
Wtf are you even talking about? You are just saying things. That isn’t a response.
They were listing some of the atrocities and crimes commited by the US military. It’s an odd response to what you said I’ll give you. But I believe the point they were trying to make is that you don’t need to understand the finer points of the military to see the horrors it inflicts.
I’ll also blame the ranking officers.
The grunt soldiers may not have the perspective to see how illegal this is, but the officers should.
Enough of the blame game, can we just end the war?
“In the middle east” isn’t “on the middle east”… No troops on the gound, just in it.
