I sewed the pocket on one leg and photoshopped it to mirror onto the other leg to see how it would look.
When pockets are expanded:

The straps run into the pockets to allow you to cinch down items that might flop around inside.
The cargo pocket can also be used to hold items when not expanded.

My only suggestion, as a 00s teen who wore as many leg chains as possible, is to not let those straps droop/flop between the legs. Find connection points in the strap or other sections of the pant, or even leave the length inside the pockets and keep the strap sewn downand secured around the leg.
Getting stuck on chairs, bus seats, myself, car seats, etc., was honestly very annoying. And since they are sewn in as they are, they will be extra annoying in the wash.
But the fashion 😭 you’re right tho
Dickies 874 stock? I do love the concept but think the pockets should be higher, about mid-thigh. Been really feeling cargo pants recently, too
Came here to say this. Always hated pockets that hung alongside the knee. When full, the items interfere with bending the knee, and/or bang on it when walking, running or pedaling.
877 :) I wanted them higher too but they would interfere with the existing pockets 😔
The new pockets are so big that it’s fine if the old pockets are vestigial
I really love seeing your cool fashion projects
🤜🤛
I’d need a big belt for those once the pockets were full.

Cool!
For posterity:

Shell carrier from the Royal Artillery Memorial.
Silhouette looks OK in folded mode, but bananas when unfolded & full. Straps and hardware on the cargo flap seem unnecessary.
