The death animations and characters are very cool ! The concept is interesting but it could've been a little more fun. I would've really appreciated some actual upgrades or different exp rewards so leveling up felt like a reward, it kind of just felt like I finished the level and that was it. Aiming with the cane was a little hard but it made the game pretty challenging in a fun way :D I also wondered why the level was so big considering there's not that many enemies at a time but it didn't change anything for the gameplay either so maybe it's okay. Some music could've softened the SFX too and made it a little less repetitive. I understand if you ran out of time tho, it's still a very good concept so good job !

Thank you for feedback! Yea I ran out of time, I was gonna add a wheel you spin for different upgrades and that upgrade system was kind of a placeholder until I've finished other things.

Camera could use lagging behind the player a bit so you can tell when the player's moving, enemies had variations but the variations all were kinda handled the same way. Central mechanic is interesting but I think the sounds are a little abrasive, and the gameplay becomes pretty formulaic and kitey once you've got the hang of it, which could possibly be solved with obstacles or more dynamic enemy ai. I like the character designs!

Developer

I'll try and implement some of these for next time. With the enemy ai, I wanted to change it since I didn't like how it worked but didn't know how I could make it better. But thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it.

I feel so powerful being a swagged up duck killing everone with just a cane. Once I realized I needed to press "Help" before starting, and read the description a second time so I could learn the controls, it became such a fun game to play haha Really neat take on the prompt.

Very serious game. I loved the animations for the different enemies (attack and death). During my first run, I was confused on how to aim my attack since I thought the direction would go where my mouse pointed. When that didn't work, I thought it would aim via WASD direction (kinda like Dome Keeper). I only realized the direction was determined by where the cane was pointing after I read the game description, LOL. I got much better after that. Maybe on the tip of the cane, add a tiny arrow, so I know this is where I should point? I do think this game is really fun! Makes me want to improve and see the new enemy types. Maybe implementing a rogue card/ability system after clearing a wave would be neat. Great job!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback and the suggestions, I won't be able to do any work on this game for a bit but once I can, I most likely come back to it since I had more ideas I think would work well but didn't implement them since ran out of time.

Very unique and creative take on the theme! I loved the animations and appreciated that the main character is a duck! It would have been nice to have some music music and maybe some upgrades, but overall it was a very cool game!

Developer

Thanks for trying it out. I did plan to add some music but it was 2am and was just too tired to look for the right music . With the upgrades I had an idea where you'd spin a wheel every level up but ran out of time unfortunately.

Haha, the ending with the roast made me laugh.

Solid concept, and definitely something you could build more gameplay on top of. It felt really rewarding to slice straight through the enemies with a fully charged bar, and it was always a little risky to keep charging it longer before the enemies closed in.

Developer

Thanks for trying it out, I do have some more ideas I would've liked to add but ran out of time, for example a boss fight and a different levelling up system. But I might come back to this game to add those in.

A very solid top down, almost survivor-like game. Conceptually, the game is great and fits well with the theme. I like the risk/reward of standing still to charge the weapon, although in earlier stages there’s very little risk to running a fair way ahead of enemies and charging an attack through them. That being said, there’s definitely ways to build on this concept.

Timing the cane attack is quite hard to start off with as the cane spins so fast. I felt like half of my attempted charges turned into dashes the other way. While charging, it might be worth having the cane continue to spin at a slower rate, so that there’s time to correct the path that the attack travels in. This is combined with the fact that there’s a couple seconds between charging the next attack, which does give time to get away from the enemies but feels almost like a punishment for missing the spin, even though it feels like I’ve timed it right.

I love the concept of the food chain though, it’s really cool, and the animations for the enemies are very neat as well. Overall, a solid game.

I do agree that the cane felt too fast and hard to aim, but thought didn't want the game to feel too easy. Making the cane slower when charging would help so thanks for the feedback, if I come back to this game, I'll likely add that in or something similar.

Damn it do feel good to slice through a pack of enemies. Feels pretty bushido samurai, which is undoubtedly serious.
