Extra time given for this month’s challenge was put to good use. I have worked a few more laid work motifs.
Simple crisscrossing over pink laid thread.
After laying the pink cotton skein, variegated yellow threads are couched with violet thread. Added a few french knots.
Worked some weaving with polyester threads and outlined with buttonhole stitch.

A lovely name for detached triple chain stitch. The method of working this stitch is on Queenie’s blog. Working this way gives more dimension to an ordinary detached chain stitch. So I worked the stitch on satin cloth, pattern taken from old pattern book.
The flower in two shades of blue with four strands of cotton skein.
The stems are worked in outline stitch.
The leaves are again worked with mille fleur stitch.
Added small pearl beads inside the flowers.
This project was completed just before the tailor left for vacation. The worked satin fabric was sewn on the towel by him.
The old patterns which have detached chain options can be used for this stitch. Another option is using this stitch with ribbon embroidery. A pretty and easy stitch for textural embroidery.

This is a very new stitch on SSS stitch challenge. The working is explained on Queenie’s blog. I have a good respect for bullion stitch by not attempting it often. Sometimes these stitch challenges don’t help. This is one such time.
Starting the sampler, each and every twist on bullion had a mind of its own. During the earlier days of learning bullion stitches [most times the trials were abandoned] it seemed to prove that bullions are not my friends. After attempting and working some bullion stitches on TAST, a long distance relationship has emerged. Meaning- Looking at bullion stitches does not scare me. Their beauty is well appreciated.
A wretched attempt this time around-
Another row was tried again, during half way some of the half bullioned chain stitches looked passable. May be it is possible to work this stitch. The second row is a version long and short version of the stitch. The alternate stitches are chain stitches in the third row. The zigzag version is worked in the fourth row.
The plain part of this stitch is whipped in the first sample. I tried working the bullions alternatively on bottom and top in the second sample. Some detached chains, long tailed detached chains, twisted chains and Q stitches are worked with half bullions in the last sample.
The sampler is done!

These embroidery exercises are very interesting. I started on the second page on the embroidery sampler book.
The first detail was worked in detached chain stitches and french knots.

The last set of samples of woven chain bars. Colours are changed on alternate v- shapes in one paisley, one side of the chains are woven in different colour thread in running stitch filled paisley, pistil stitches and cretan circles are added to other two woven chain bars.

There is lot of space between these paisleys. Sometime later they may be filled. With this stitch sampler TAST 2014 challenge is completed. I ammissing the challenge already. Till SharonB comes back to start this challenge, I am pondering on some ideas.

I could work woven chain bars on some of the paisleys. Polyester threads are used to work these woven chain bars. The chains get twisted quite often, which is slightly irritating. The zigzag chains are worked individually to minimize this twisting.

A very Happy Christmas to Everyone!
The TAST challenge stitch kikos flower sampler was completed yesterday. One more stitch needs to be explored. Sharon has mentioned that there will be break from her regular blogging to work on her crazy quilting book.
There was some progress on other projects. Four edges were completed on Randje per week challenge. This challenge continues in the next year too.

I am still catching up on TAST stitches. Kiko’s flower stitch tutorial is here on Pintangle. Though this was part of earlier TAST challenge, it was not explored then. At that time I was terrified of bullion knots.
This stitch is combined with other stitches in this pattern sampler.
Kiko’s flower stitches are worked with- chain stitch, herringbone stitch, buttonhole stitch and feather stitch.

The other stitches in this second part of the sampler are- woven chain stitches, triple chain stitches, french knots and coral stitch.

These florals started with cretan stitch ring, french knots centre and berry stitch petals.

First sample has square herringbone and pistil stitches, second sample is made of basque stitch ring and the Algerian eye stitch forms the centre for the third sample.

The first sample has arrowhead ring, slipped detached chain stitch ring is the base for the second sample and whipped square and a variation of kikos flower stitch [the buttonhole stitches after the first buttonhole stitch are shorter , making the bullion stitches angled] form the third motif.

After working two more samples with buttonhole stitch, fern stitch and fly stitches ,the sampler was completed.

This cannot be called a simple stitch, but it was easier than I expected. One tip- it is best to work the other stitches first [especially the chain stitches] because the thread gets entangled over this textured stitch.

After working a few more beaded lock stitches the sampler was completed today.

The first sample was worked on long and short straight stitches. It is not pretty, the lock stitches twisted the straight stitches! The beaded lock stitches are worked on three step feather stitch in the second sample. The third sample is beaded lock stitches worked over herringbone stitch and the Italian border stitches form the base for beaded lock stitches in the fourth sample.

The stitch is a buttonhole variation, the beaded lock stitches were worked from right to left, after trying in different ways, settled down to the last samples on the left side in the first sample. Fern stich came later in the TAST list, still ended up as the base for the second sample. Wheat ear stitches are worked with beaded lock stitch in the third sample.

Sheaf stitches form the base to work beaded lock stitch in the first sample. In the second sample, the beaded lock stitch is worked at the top, and the bottom is twisted and beaded, extra straight stitches were used for this. The straight stitches were beaded in the third sample. Beads are added to double lock stitch in the last sample.

It was interesting working on this stitch. Some pointers-The beads are not that secure, which makes them turn in all directions, the space between the straight stitches and the bead size needs to be same. Sometimes when pulled tight, the lock stitches twist the straight stitches. This stitch can be added for extra texture, that way beads will rest comfortably and enhance the look of another stitch.

I am catching up on TAST challenge stitches. This stitch was earlier worked TAST 2010 challenge, the link is here. The tutorial for this stitch is on Pintangle.
Some variations of this stitch were tried on the earlier sampler, this sampler was started with triple chain stitch with pistil stitches. The second sample is triple chain stitch worked between zigzag coral stitches. Two rows of this stitch is the third sample.

These three samples of triple chain stitches are worked with chain stitch variations. The first sample was started with berry stitch worked alternatively up and down and ended with berry stitches on top. Twisted chain stitches are worked one side in the second sample. This is one example of polyester thread having a twist of its own, which gives a scalloped look. Slipped detached chains are worked on one side in the third sample.

The central chain gets attention in these two samples, the central chain in the first sample is oyster stitch and in the second sample is cable chain stitch.

In the first sample the central chains are worked in zigzag manner. The chain stitches are worked on one side in the second sample.

Triple chain stitches are worked on feathered chain stitch variation in the first sample and worked on buttonhole stitch variation in the last sample.

I liked working with this variegated thread on this stitch sampler. Some variations with beads was in mind, but thought SharonB might introduce it on next year’s challenge . Some motif ideas also floated, which were dashed with catching up wave.
