Red Rising by Pierce Brown is really popular. I’m only just started the 4th book so nobody spoil it for me. So far so good.
Had one in the room growing up. Had one when I moved out. Took it out when I got married, and haven’t had one for well over a decade.
One in the living room though. Bought it when we got married. Stupid thing won’t die so I can justify replacing it.
Which black death book? There are many and I’d like to learn.
I’m assuming dancing plague is John Waller?
Hmmm, look at the labels. They each say something something “100”.
Not the right language, but maybe something like per 100? Like per 100 grams of water? Or.. something about volume?
IDK, it would be a weird way to do it. But something like that might explain why so much sugar, seemingly more than can fit in the can.
Sugar is heavy, there’s no way 39 grams is the same size as the can
Edit: gandalf seems to have the right idea here! https://sh.itjust.works/comment/24686999
Edit2: wait, a can has 300+ grams of fluid in it… So the sugar would be 1/3 of what the whole can would be. This actually makes the picture more confusing 🤔
Edit 3:
Behold, 39 grams of sugar. About one shot glass worth.

Here’s that glass next to a can. I don’t have any soda pop in the house.

Front left: wireless headphones, flashlight, wallet, 6ft of Paracord.
Front right: cell phone, knife.
Back left: any small trash I’ve collected throughout the day.
Back right: usually empty 🤷♂️
I don’t like sitting on things. Kept my wallet in my back right until I was 25 or 30, started hurting my back. Since switching it forward, no issues.
Openwrt is fairly secure, no? Otherwise people wouldn’t use it in their network stack?
Not sure, saw them on a road trip through Ohio
Well I’ll be! That seems right!
Well, church stations are usually AM, and while a small portion of dedicated hams still use AM, the vast majority use SSB, which requires a specialized receiver to hear, because it’s basically one third of an AM signal.
The shortwave bands are abuzz with signals every day. Sometimes more, sometimes less.
But yeah if you’re in a city or something it’ll be harder to hear with the elevated noise floor.
The modern world is full of cheaply made electronics that spew noise all over the spectrum. So most hams in cities will take a portable radio out to a park to get a better signal. It’s actually fun, there’s a whole online game involving taking radios to parks and trying to reach each other! POTA!
Good fun.
Define “cool again”? There are a few more hoops to jump through, but ham radio is alive and well.
It’s not to the level it once was, simply because cell phones are so much more convenient. But me and my buddies are all licensed. I love meshtastic and have several nodes, but APRS can punch much further and is already a significantly not robust existing network. Just less convenient 🤷♂️
This is what bothers me about many of the youth around me with anxiety. They lean into it.
I’m not saying it doesn’t exist, or that it’s easy. I’m saying you need to do something proactive or it will never get better.
Everyone has some anxiety, everyone grew up with some anxiety, and yes some people have extreme debilitating anxiety.
Most people should be able to power through, make proactive changes in their lives, and get to a point where they can at least function.
But more and more I see people with mild anxiety leaning into it, regressing and retreating into themselves. Their parents confirming and amplifying the effect. And then they end up worse than they were when they started.
I’m torn because posts like OPs bring attention to those with extreme anxiety, who need allowances and recognition. But it also reaffirms those with mild anxiety, and they identify with it, and they suffer.
Getting a customer facing job was the best thing my buddies kid ever did. Turned her around, 180.
My other buddy got his kid loops for noise reduction in busy environments. He continues to get worse.
I ran into one of these a few weeks ago trying to serve papers to my neighbor. They rang my bell to ask about him. Crazy.
I’m no snitch, but I did confirm some guy lives there, but I don’t know anything about him 🤷♂️
Which also happens to be mostly the truth. Couldn’t even tell you the guys name.
I see them knocking on his door every few days or so, still haven’t got him.
But I AM a snitch when it counts, I definitely called the police on his girlfriend for drunk driving before.
She came home, struggled to get up the stairs, struggled to unlock her door, and then complained loudly to her cats, yelling, describing how drunk she was to them. Then 10 minutes later I heard her door again, by the time I got to my window she was driving away. I dialed 911 immediately. Unfortunately nothing came of it 🤷♂️
That would be so infuriating. I DESPISE spoilers
Thanks!
What does eta stand for in this context? I’ve seen it before and can’t figure it out
Don’t see “Half As Interesting” listed here. His stuff doesn’t usually go super deep, but I’ve learned a lot from him.
And just recently he was accused of using AI for a thumbnail and this was his response:

Passthrough is smart if doing local, hadn’t thought of that.
I remember. McChicken was a dollar too.
Two bucks and you were fat and happy.
Now the only food under $3.19(can’t even be bothered to round down to $3 even) is a small fry for (checks Internet for prices) $2.89, or apple slices for $1.39.
McChicken and McDouble are $3.60 each. The same two sandwiches would cost $7.20!
That’s not inflation, it’s greed.
And yet there’s always a line 🤦♂️
Nice!
Also I love me some fedora, I run bluefin myself.
My friends likewise contact me with computer problems, usually I help them, Windows stuff I still know well enough.
One guy though, he’s been getting more savvy over time. So when he asked me about Windows ten EOL, I was honest with him. I gave him options. I told him about LTSC, and about forcing win11 to run on “older” hardware. And about Linux. And I explained the risks and challenges of each.
I didn’t want to force him because I worried that if he didn’t choose it, then when it got hard, he would blame me.
Since it was his secondary computer, and it only runs web, text docs, and Minecraft.. He chose to learn Linux. So far he’s only ran into a couple issues, one of which was his display not scaling correctly because the default and available resolutions were too high. And when set to the correct resolution, things didn’t fit on the screen.
Well it was only half Linux’ fault, while it shouldn’t have given him 4k options when he didn’t have the ability to use it, he shouldn’t have been using a 720p TV as a monitor. We had a chuckle, and he found a better monitor with a modern resolution, and he’s been happy for months now. No questions asked to me, either it’s working or he’s solving his own problems.
I was actually joking. I imagine the child would be displeased with the toy staying in the bag. And if they open it? Now you have to struggle to get it home.
I don’t know what the actual point would be unless you bring the vacuum with you

[Solved]What is this pair of metal... Things.. hanging on traffic light pole over an intersection?
They were on all of them in the intersection, four sets
