As a kid, I saw the episode of The Simpsons about a rigged spelling bee. At one point, one of the children is eliminated by a word with an ambiguous spelling (whether/weather) where the host, when asked, delivers the unhelpful example sentence “I don’t know whether the weather will improve.”
This is a clip of the scene. In my recollection of it, the host was much more openly menacing than he actually is. I remember a musical sting, the camera zooming in on his narrowed eyes, and his delivery of the line being sharper.
I assume my mind manufactured that memory because I remembered the plot point about the spelling bee being blatantly rigged and filled in the gaps with imagery of the host being openly contemptuous of the kids it was rigged against.
A few days ago, I saw something saying the Bee Movie came out in 2007, but I could have sworn it actually came out in the late 2010s. Was there an upsurge of memes about it at that time or something?
Yeah, it became a meme around that time, I and most other people had totally forgotten about that movie until then, so it’s understandable that you’d think it was released in the late 2010s.
Feels like DreamWorks had at least one ”talking animal that smirks” movie every damn year in the 2000s.
As a kid, I remember there being a brand of ice cream called Mega Mouth
It had all kinds of kid oriented ice cream, like a chocolate with little dinosaur bone shaped cookies in it or a swirled sherbet with wacky colors
Can’t find it, there’s no records of a Mega Mouth ice cream and every time I look it just suggests completely unrelated stuff
Either I’m misremembering it, or I invented a brilliant business scheme as a child and forgot it wasn’t real
The Simpsons
I always remembered Abe saying, “And it’ll happen to you!” instead of “It’ll happen to you!” And the weirdest part is even when I see the actual scene, my mind always tries to insert the “and” for some reason lol
