Salamander was rescued from a barbed wire fence where he sustained some pretty serious damage to his wing membrane.
Salamander needs to wear a dressing on this wing to help it heal in a way that is doesn’t contract. Salamanders carer applied a dressing to his wing, which retails for nearly $20, and Salamander ripped it off within 5 minutes.
Salamander is now confined to the sock of shame, keeping his dressed wing protected from his ministrations. Salamander will only need to wear this sock for a day or two, just until he gets used to the feeling of the dressing.
With time and patience we are hopeful that Salamander will make a full recovery and return to the wild.

Sock of shame
Asmei
(Pun between “asma”, “asthma”, and “amei” , “I loved it”)
One of my biggest regrets in life is not pursuing a career in animal rescue. This is so much better and matters so much more than anything I’m doing at work.
