Scott Speed (born January 24, 1983) is a retired American driver who last drove for Andretti Formula E.

Career

[edit]

Speed began his F1 career in 2005 at the Canadian Grand Prix, where he took part as a test driver for Red Bull Racing; becoming the first American driver to participate in a Formula One event since Michael Andretti in 1993. He remained as the test driver for the United States Grand Prix.

Following its purchase of Minardi, Red Bull Racing announced the creation of Scuderia Toro Rosso with Speed and Vitantonio Liuzzi as its drivers for the 2006 season.

Speed's maiden season in F1 as a driver was marred with technical issues and disappointing results. Despite Speed's best efforts, he was never able to record a finish in the points in 28 races across two seasons.

On July 31, 2007 Speed was released from his contract at Toro Rosso to make way for prospective driver Sebastian Vettel. Speed would then transition into a career in NASCAR, where he raced in multiple different series. Following disappointing results in Nascar, Speed moved to Rallycross, where he would win Gold at the Summer X Games 3 times from 2013-2015. Speed then moved to the Global Rallycross Championship, where he would win the championship 3 times from 2015-2017. Speed tasted victory again in 2018 when he won the American Rallycross Championship.
