Il primo approccio agli Ugij, collettivo strumentale a cavallo tra fusion e world music, è che ha nelle tastiere di Edoardo Maggioni il principale motivo di interesse, dove l'introduttiva Ehiku scomoda Popol Vuh e Third Ear Band prima di sfociare in un jazz molto più moderno che ricorda il trio di Esbjörn Svensson con un chitarrista aggiunto.
Il feeling di Mea E Pau è quasi funky, impreziosito dal pianismo sempre interessante di Maggioni, e fa il paio con la successiva Odota, episodio lirico ed enigmatico - il primo del lotto con tanto di orchestra - dalle tinte trip-hop e drum'n'bass. Pokemon Shock è heavy e progressiva, e anticipa Pohjoinen, traccia dal respiro sinfonico ma sospesa, sinistra, mahleriana, in un crescendo costante che culmina nell'impressionante assolo di synth del finale.

Un album da non perdere!!!

The first approach to Ugij, an instrumental collective between fusion and world music, is that it has in Edoardo Maggioni's keyboards the main reason of interest, where the introductory Ehiku bothers Popol Vuh and Third Ear Band before flowing into a much more modern jazz that recalls Esbjörn Svensson's trio with an added guitarist.
The feeling of Mea E Pau is almost funky, embellished by Maggioni's always interesting piano playing, and pairs with the subsequent Odota, a lyrical and enigmatic episode - the first of the lot with an orchestra - with trip-hop and drum'n'bass hues. Pokemon Shock is heavy and progressive, and anticipates Pohjoinen, a track with a symphonic but suspended, sinister, Mahlerian breath, in a constant crescendo that culminates in the impressive synth solo of the finale.

An album not to be missed!!!
