"Fading into essence" is the debut album by Copenhague based sound artist Respira, also known as Markus Trige Frandsen. One part of the experimental ambient duo Oscillating Presence along with his partner, Markus has a long history as a drone and meditation music performer.
Blending elements from both digital and analog instruments, these five tracks create a deep and introspective experience, inviting the listener into a sonic exploration of the mind and the body. One can easily drift through the organic drones and evolving soundscapes on this album, achieving moments of contemplation, silence and wonder. Headphone listening is recommended.
In the artist's own words:
All tracks on the album are derived from one recording session, which happened one late night / early morning in Berlin in the summer of 2024. This initial session was executed with the approach of introducing some fresh elements of feedback, noise and deconstruction processing into my atmospheric and organic sounding live setup that I’ve build over the last decade.Through the following years each composition got shaped and refined from the vision of a childhood memory of looking myself in the mirror at night, and experiencing my own reflection slowly disappearing into darkness. Out of this memory and the gradual decomposition and refining of the sound, this album became for me a representation of "mortificatio" - the alchemical process of purification through the death of identity and rebirth of the psyche.

Respira explores the transcendental dimensions of sound through immersive, spatial, and vibroacoustic mediums - with compositions drawing on electronic and acoustic sources, weaving together deep drones, environmental recordings, voice, traditional instruments and sound-design.
"My creative output is an ever-evolving process, that has been shaped through a vast amount of collaborative and solo projects over the years, spanning music and sound for installation, performance art, VR, film, and multidisciplinary projects."
Markus Trige Frandsen is also the co-founder of the cultural community and label Nature Tales, and is actually developing therapeutic vibrotactile sound installations as part of the Copenhagen-based project VibroAcoustics.
Sci-fi soundworlds and analog oddities abound on installment five of this experimental compilation series from the Fabric-affiliated DJ. Bandcamp New & Notable Jun 1, 2025
