The government added that plug-in solar panels, which homeowners can install on balconies, would be available within shops over the coming months.

We have those balcony solar systems here in Germany with several millions of installations. Let me tell you: They do work. They are great. They are cheap. And they will help to keep your energy bill down and have a ROI of only a few years. They are called balcony solar, but you do not have to install them on a balcony. If you have one, great. But you can also put them somewhere in your garden or just onto your wall or even on your roof. They are just normal solar panels with a small inverter that you just plug into your normal power socket.

Why would you do that? It’s easier to install solar for one home than for multiple homes at once. If you mash together multiple tenants and homeowners into one energy system, you start having a lot of additional problems. They have to finance the installation together, they have to do contracts about who gets what amount of power when, they have to do billing, and so on. If you have your own solar system on your own roof, that’s easy. Everything else is simply not happening. So for example, what happens when one homeowner doesn’t want to have solar or can’t afford it?

What are you talking about? It’s a solved problem to install solar on an European roof. We have millions of installations without any leaks. Those companies do know what they are doing and have been for decades. And people have installed stuff on their roofs for centuries.

That happens a lot. There are a lot of people doing open zoom meetings and webinars. So you might have a webinar about “how to install solar on your roof”, organized by some organisation or a public zoom meeting for some online community. The link will get posted on socials and everybody can hop into the call and listen to it. Some other examples are in the article.

No mention that the people they are experiencing on have given their consent for this experiment.

It kind of shows the priorities? Your infrastructure will be fine for a few years if you do no maintenance. After that, it’s downhill. If you are investing in maintaining it, you show that you have the longterm interests of the population in mind instead of some shortterm things that might help you during your short term

Yeah, that’s the problem: There is no paywall-busting archiver that doesn’t DDOS. If you know one, let me know.

It’s too complicated to explain in one post here. If you want to know, you might want to read the Wikipedia articles on the middle east conflict, the founding of Israel and all those wars. It might take a while, that conflict doesn’t have easy answers for you

We all knew that electing Trump would be bad, but I’m still shocked at how bad it’s becoming. His actions are plunging multiple countries all over the world into emergency situations? Disrupting the lives of billions of people? Really great job, Americans. Please do something about it

Just FYI: The claim that solar panels barely break even in regards of carbon is misinformation:

Indeed, the solar panels exported from China in 2024 will have paid off their “carbon debt” within an average of just four months, according to detailed recent analysis for Carbon Brief. Manufacturing the solar panels will have added some 72m tonnes of CO2 (MtCO2) to China’s emissions in 2024, but will cut them overseas by 203MtCO2 per year, the analysis found. In total, these solar panels will save some 4.1GtCO2 over their lifetimes, paying off the upfront “carbon debt” some 57 times over. Looked at another way, the lifecycle emissions of solar power are far lower than those of fossil fuels, as shown in the chart below, which is based on UN data published in 2021.

And since most solar panels are produced in China and China is rapidly building clean energy, that will also go down further in the future. Solar is great.

It’s an island five hundred kilometers from the Russian border. That’s not really a safe place to put your aircraft in the drone age. Your supply ships will have to deal with some seababy type of naval drones and your airfield is vulnerable to all those shaed drones and rockets.

We know that recruitment standards are quite low for ICE. So you can guess that every cartel will be trying to get their own people in there. Do you know who will not be bothered by cops while smuggling drugs? Your ICE convoy with masked gunmen. And if you take over security on an airport, that’s even better.

Be careful with what you are watching in the next few years. Hollywood gave itself a diverse face in the last few years. Put in black actors, had some strong women in lead roles, had some gay characters and so on. I’m afraid that we will see some movies pushing hart right MAGA topics in the next time. Movies that are pushing for traditional gender roles, have gay people as evil masterminds, immigrants as criminals and so on. We already saw that with all those movies with evil arab guys in the bush era. Hollywood was taken over by Trump’s tech billionaires, you will see this turn it in the media you are watching. That will influence you and maybe you shouldn’t watch such stuff

I think that the anti-democratic impulse here is that they are trying to get this by any means possible. They were refused by the elected parliament and they are still trying to get their chat control by trying it in other legislation, other channels and so on. That means that they are just using the democratic process and are not accepting that elected representatives refused their proposal. That is antidemocratic.

It totally depends on your living and garden conditions. If you have the space and the current climate for it you can totally use your garden to save money on groceries. This will not feed your whole household but can help to save some money and make everything more resilient. Plant an apple tree and you will maybe not have apples this year, but in the next year you can get your first apples. My tree is now 4 years old and is growing several kilos of apples every year and will for the next decades. Plant a cherry tree. Raspberries. Redcurrant. Other fruit trees. Those plants will grow every year and provide you with a lot of healthy food and will not take that much time to grow and cultivate. So it is a great time to start - you might get some results later this year, but next year will be great.

It’s spring in most of the northern hemisphere and therefore the next months are the best time to start a garden. Yes, chances are that you won’t feed your family from it. But it’s fun, it is a great way to get fresh food and if you have the option to do it, you should
