doing something, better than sitting on a couch. Surprising study.
I’ve had too many people tell me though that it’s not exercise though and so why should they or anyone get one. Hopefully this will convince a few. I agree with you, if you lead a sedentary life anything will be a positive improvement
Moving with assistance is better than not moving at all, and people with e-bikes tend to ride for longer because it’s easier to do so.
I certainly do. When I had an acoustic bike, I felt like some of the hills around me were annoying to ride up, so I didn’t ride as much. Now I can boost up the steep hills, and ride with no assistance the rest of the ride.
Exactly. I love my mechanical bike but my ebike has definitely been used more
yeah this is an under-appreciated aspect of e-bikes: you stop fearing exhaustion, because at any point you can just turn on assistance and take a break.
I don’t even have range anxiety cause the bike is perfectly fine to ride without juice.
that’s the beauty of it, an e-bike will inherently help lessen any range anxiety you might feel, as it helps train your legs and heart!
Unless the bicycle looks smth like this, calling it acoustic is ridiculous.
counterpoint: funy
I’ll get one at some point in my life, hopefully they won’t all be flimsy crap by then.
“Is exercise good for your body?”
I have an ebike. My ebike trips are several hours long and cover 20-40km of travel going all over the city and beyond. I have seen incredible sights, been cool places, seen wild animals, had the wind in my hair while I listen to the birds, etc. My health and fitness have both improved noticeably and I feel better and sleep better. My mental health has improved and I feel more alive and creative.
If I didn’t have my bike I’d just walk around my neighbourhood for 20 minutes and get bored then go home and sit around.
I would like to get one. My bike riding has really plummeted compared to when I was younger and Im hoping if I eventually get an ebike I will use it more.
Do it. I’m upper 40’s and I get out on my ebike all the time now compared to rarely when I just had a normal bike.
There are programs in some places for rebates for e-bikes. For example my electricity provider does that. Maybe check if there’s something where you live?
I highly recommend them! Just make sure you get a decent one that fits you well and meets your needs. My go-to is a Ride1up Portola because it’s good bang for your buck, and serves as a surprisingly decent cargo bike with the front rack and big pannier bags on the back.
you almost certainly will, just make sure to get one that isn’t clunky. Some e-bikes, for whatever reasons, end up being impractical to pedal without assistence which IMO means they aren’t really bicycles any more.
I got a turbocheap department store e-bike that is almost literally just a normal bike with a motor and battery slapped onto it, and it’s been great. It’s not quite as easy to pedal as a light acoustic bike but it’s plenty pedal-able with the motor off even with the battery mounted.
I have one and the whatever reason is that the engine is always connected to the wheels, even when not running, which creates friction and makes it almost impossible to move even on the slightest upwards slope.
that’s one very severe reason, but there’s also stuff like being heavy or having huge fat tyres that add a shitload of friction.
I just want to highlight that you should make sure the bike works fine with things turned off and the battery inserted, so you don’t have to worry about being completely stranded if you run out of juice.
They’re great! I still ride my bicycles too though.
When I got my e-bike I dropped 49lbs in 6 weeks. If you use it right you can get a lot of health benefits.
That’s, like, a dangerous amount of weight to lose in 6 weeks. I hope you had a physician’s advice during that time.
Nope. It was during Covid lockdown. Just started riding 2 or 3 hours weekdays and more on weekends. I found myself craving protein a lot more and eating a bit more but the weight just dropped fast. Built muscle quickly too.
