It’s not just completing the game, 100%ing means you’ve finished everything. Got every collectable, finished every sidequest, and pretty much finished everything the game has to offer. To me, that should mean you achieved everything the game has to offer.
Sure, there can be a few achievements for doing something harder, but it shouldn’t reach a point where it feels like an unfair challenge run that needs hundreds of attempts and thousands of hours to beat. There isn’t an achievement for beating dark souls without taking a hit, but people do it for the love of the game.
For people telling me to ignore the ultra-hard stuff, it’s really demotivating to want to get all the achievements but be blocked by blatantly unfun challenges like “beat the game on ultra hard difficulty on ironman mode where if you die, you lose 20 hours of progress and have to start over”.
I hate developers that add ultra-super-hardcore-hell difficulty achievements so much.
This meme is giving me flashbacks of Super Meat Boy’s developer adding achievements in the console version where you have to beat the entire stage (20 levels) in one sitting without a single death. And that achievement exists for every stage in the game. For reference, one of the harder levels can take an average person over a hundred deaths to beat ONCE.
100%ing the game should be enough to get all achievements. That’s what 100% means, but some developers just insist on inserting some challenge run nobody can beat into the mix.

5·8 days ago100%, this enemy just murders me when I run a shiv deck.
There’s the Canvas that happens once every year where people can place pixels on a massive grid. I think there was also one more thing that happened a while ago but I can’t remember what it was.
This is the type of stuff I love to see on the fediverse

4·11 days agoLooks way better than the teaser trailer, I’ll give it that. I still feel like it’s too goofy for live action, and I could really go without the isekai intro, but I’m cautiously optimistic.

3·12 days agoI’m both super excited and very worried about this project. It has so much potential but there’s so little hype around it that it might not have enough creators and users. It’s also going to be paid which might be a tough sell considering other platforms like Roblox are free.
I tried the dev preview though, it’s pretty rad.

Games@lemmy.world•Former Nippon Ichi Software president says the “salaryman-ification” of Japan’s game industry is why there are fewer “individual creators” like Hideo Kojima and Suda51 - AUTOMATON WESTEnglish
57·13 days agoThis happened to the industry worldwide. As studios became way bigger and jobs became way more specific, nobody is really allowed to do anything outside of their field. Back then, companies were small and everyone had a hand at making the game. People also wore many hats so they would get experience on making different parts of the game from start to finish.
Now? In AAA companies you work some super specific field like “junior gameplay combat designer” and you won’t have the opportunity to work on anything else and you’re in a company with 500 people that all have different opinions so anything you suggest will be ignored.

1·14 days agoThis season was wild. I think the plot kind of flew off the rails but the fights were breathtaking. The direction was also surprisingly experimental which is a nice change of pace from all the generic action anime out there.
Between this and Frieren, it’s already a great year for anime.

121·15 days agoYou say this like Steam created DRM… DRM already existed back in the day, and in way more intrusive ways. Having CD keys, games that would activate only once by connecting to the servers, etc…
Steam is the poster child of making digital games popular. That’s it. It’s not that deep.

13·15 days agoTHANK YOU for saying this. Their launcher based DRM scheme and its direct attack on ownership
FYI Steam only applies a very weak DRM to stop people from copying games, but you can easily bypass it using Goldberg. Just copy/paste a few files into the game folder and you can play it outside of Steam.
Isn’t it both? I vaguely remember Sephiroth already knowing what’s going to happen or him coming from the future or something.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake also has time travel, technically.

0·16 days agoOh, yeah, the modding community is way too fractured for there to be bigger tech servers, especially when modpacks just run really poorly on servers. Hytale is actually avoiding this by having all mods be server-side, meaning you can easily just join modded servers without having to juggle different clients. It’s one of the best things about the game.

1·16 days agoMy big issue with modded MC is that it doesn’t feel “social.” Servers are just too small, sparse, and performance bottlenecked.
Really? MC has huge servers and communities - it’s one of the most popular games of all time. There are definitely a lot of huge social servers in MC you might like.
Hytale has a much smaller playerbase (at least so far), so you’re not likely to find that many big servers.

4·16 days agoI’d say you’ll like it if you enjoy Minecraft in general. That said, the game is currently in alpha and is still lacking in a lot of areas - and there aren’t any big automation/industrial mods yet compared to MC. If you’re looking for a more polished Minecraft with better combat and creative tools though, this is it.

At what point does “mastering the game and its mechanics in its entirety” stop and start becoming a waste of people’s time? Because I’m talking about the unfair and time-wasting achievements. You can always keep making harder achievements and justify it with “I guess you didn’t master the game”, but the reality is that these achievements just taunt everyone who doesn’t want to dedicate thousands of hours into the game. Achievements should be reasonable.
You could make an achievement for beating the game on the hardest difficulty. Then beating it on the hardest difficulty with the true ending. Then beating it on the hardest difficulty without dying. Then without getting hit. Then beating the true final boss at level 1 with a butter knife without taking a single hit within a 10 minute timer and you need frame-perfect jumps to avoid supposedly undodgeable attacks.
The first is fine, the last is a complete waste of time and shouldn’t exist. This isn’t some weird undocumented phenomenon, adding ultra-hard achievements will often lead to people burning out trying to achieve it and people complain about them all the time. If you want to do a challenge run in your own time, feel free, but I guess I’ll die on this hill that they shouldn’t be an official achievement.
