Ok but let us take a step back, women are the experts on getting pregnant and have been for all of human history, is it not natural than for a woman to intuitively understand there is an inherent mystery to the boundary between something being there and something not? Is it not the most natural thing in the world for a woman to see life as a rising and falling wave of probability not a series of particles separated by voids?
I know nothing about what it is like to become pregnant but I am quite sure that it is not a process that can be grappled with sufficiently if you refuse to let go of seeing the universe through the lens of balls banging around alone in a vast darkness. Pregnancy is wave that ends in a hopefully glorious crash into new life, what else could it be? Certainly not a series of particles experiencing events, I don’t need a woman to explain that to me about pregnancy that is for sure.

Politics@beehaw.org•Kamala Harris says she’s ‘thinking about’ running for president again in 2028
161·4 hours agoNot a good idea.
I think Kamala got totally screwed over by Biden, I think there is a chance if he had stepped out earlier that she could have had more time to differentiate herself from Biden, but there just wasn’t enough time. A significant amount of voters didn’t even know Biden had dropped out it happened so late in the process.
That can be true along with the fact that Kamala is not the right candidate now and she won’t win. I say this as someone who criticized her heavily on certain issues but still voted for her because yeah Trump is a fascist.
Also… it isn’t because she is a woman it is because she doesn’t have a track record of being genuinely for everyday issues like housing, healthcare and genuinely progressive reform. There are better people for this moment. We need people like AOC, Rashida Talib, Ilhan Omar etc…
We have a lot of amazing women in politics in the US right now all the way to nearly the highest levels of power, Kamala Harris and Hillary Clinton just aren’t the right people for the moment, it isn’t about them being women though yes the US is sexist as hell still.

Enshittification@slrpnk.net•Amazon thanks loyal Kindle devotees by bricking their kit
2·4 hours agoI think that is a problematic simplification.
Consider that the vast majority of people who use digital devices and eink digital devices whether they be big corporate kindles or more interesting devices like supernotes, boox, or remarkable note taking/reading devices still enjoy reading a physical book on occasion too.
It isn’t that simple, the question is how do you relate to reading through physical and digital contexts and how heavily those contexts are controlled by ensnaring forces generally in the pursuit of resistance against freedom of speech and freedom of thought?
The promise of digital books wasn’t to allow corporations to further dissect what is beautiful about reading… the promise was to be able to make books that could magically be copied endlessly for anyone that wants it.**Most of the classics in english literature, Ulysses, Moby Dick, Dracula, Pride and Prejudice, Middlemarch, Wuthering Heights, The Great Gatsby, The Brothers Karamazov, The Complete Works Of Shakespeare… are available in open access ebook formats. Can you not see the deep beauty to that?
https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/search/?sort_order=downloads
I love reading on digital screens, but also I love buying a physical version of my favorite book so I can carry it around and read it, which makes me more careful with buying books and more likely to try utilizing libraries for the books I don’t want to buy when I still want to read them physically.
I also love sometimes picking up a random book somewhere in life and reading it just because it is the kind of book I never would have encountered through another means other than happening to encounter it while pursuing some other goal.
There is no fundamental conflict here, just a bunch of bullshit brought in by late stage capitalism and shitty greedy behavior.
Putting books on computers is a great idea, so are audiobooks. Books are great too. End of story.

6·5 hours agoI think it is kind of absurd to argue against the utility of a computer attached to an eink screen. Sure I love physical books too. I don’t see the conflict.
The problem is Enshittification not the “digital” part…??

World News@quokk.au•Dressed for school, returned in a shroud: Israeli forces kill Palestinian girl in class
3·7 hours agoThe point isn’t whether the violence is possible or not, it is that violence can never establish consensus in a democratic way no matter how evil of a despot it is aimed at.
What matters is changing the bulk of public opinion, resorting to violence whether you believe it is necessary or not immediately distances people from listening to you who aren’t already part of your group.
The way you build real power is by sticking to the simplicity of your values, I know people act like no one has any memory but actually I do think people notice when groups are consistent when others are hypocritical.
The polling in the US on a variety of topics shows it. Most people in the US in the 2010s didn’t hate Bernie but also they thought he was kind of silly and beating a dead horse with his points he made in speeches. Nowadays most people in the US whether they like Bernie or not admit he was right on a whole lot of issues. Outside MAGA the change has been major and quicker than one might expect in polling about how the bulk of the US feels on topics like healthcare, social justice, housing and the environment (core leftist issues).
There is also broad organized political resistance around campaign finance reform in the US that stretches across the left-right spectrum, I think Bernie’s approach to stumping on this issue in a broadly appealing way for years and years helped speed the growth of bipartisan support for campaign finance reform. A more “violent”/intimidation based approach would NOT have done that.
If leftists resort to unnecessary vindictive/intimidation based violence now that would just throw the policy goals of leftism into existential crisis.
I don’t need to hurt people to get them to listen to me.
I am not saying don’t practice self defense but understand the politics here.

Fediverse vs Disinformation@lemmy.dbzer0.com•The ‘Opposition Party’ Has Done Nothing to Stop the Iran War and Much to Goad Trump Into Continuing It
1·8 hours agoSchumer was not criticizing Trump for threatening war; he was criticizing him for not following through on those threats, demanding that Trump be tougher on Iran at a moment when most Americans, including supermajorities of his own party, supported a diplomatic nuclear deal. Foreign Policy magazine noted that Schumer’s attack was from a position to Trump’s right, using the language of Iran hawks.

12·1 day agoI think russia will hold to it only because it is just another day to stock up shahed supply for a larger strike, but I still think there is a symbolic use to this and Ukraine isn’t going to be sitting still per say… so I actually think this might hold but it isn’t because I trust russia/putin’s word.
I hope this is a sign towards movement towards more negotiation, like actual negotiation not just slapping Ukraine in the face and trying to get Ukraine to give up things it cannot.

3·1 day agoI disagree, the polling shift is massive since 2022.

Why do people think the majority or even a large percentage of people in the US at this point will die on the hill of their sexism and racism?
Some of those people exist but most people want to hear a politician speaking to real things, they don’t have the energy to engage in the degree of identity politics bullshit the DNC and DC class of pundits seem to think everyone does. Even if you are somewhat sexist or racist if someone is promising you well thought out cost of housing policy reforms at a certain point you have to look after your family and support it to keep a roof over your head.
Sure MAGA cultists won’t or at least won’t get caught doing it but that isn’t the point. It is about speaking to everyone else.
A woman can absolutely win the next presidential election, there is a good chance our best option is a woman. It comes down to how the next presidential candidate can speak to the issues that are crushing everyday people.
