"Snow White" (Белоснежка in Russian) is a song I wrote back in 2002, when I was 14 years old. We used to play it in my teenage rock band & a low-quality recording has survived from all hose years ago. The core imagery of the lyrics — Snow White forgetting her own reflection & her very self; a magical goldfish that dies because of a wish; a certain triumph of evil mistaken for good — all came to me in a dream. In one's teenage years, dreams often leave a profound impression. I sketched out the music back then & even 20 years later, a few melodic shifts still feel like a genuine new discovery. To this day, I consider it one of my best songs.
In 2025, I revisited the track, wanting to record it exactly as I had always heard it in my head. The guitar parts & lyrics remained the same as they were two decades ago; I simply created a full arrangement in the vein of a rock band (this time as a one-man band). Naturally, playing those parts now was much easier — they aren't complex at all — & I found a certain beauty in that simplicity. It was a deeply introspective & personal project, so at the end of 2025, I released the song as a single, featuring cover art compiled from old photographs of Siberia, to ensure the composition remained in the archives.
However, in early 2026, "Snow White" was removed from all Russian streaming platforms (& international ones haven't worked in Russia for a while due to the war). The reason lies in a new Russian legislative amendments: as of March 1, 2026, any mention of drugs or related themes in works of art — even indirect — is strictly prohibited. "Snow White" begins with the lines: "A storm is coming, don't think about it / Our love has hit the needle, forget it." That was enough for automated moderation and censorship to scrub the track from all services. Metaphor is dying in Russia. Thousands of Russian-speaking artists found themselves in the same situation.
Nevertheless, in the months following the release, friends & acquaintances from various chapters of my life shared plenty of feedback. Pavel Fedosov (SAVL) created a wonderful remix, and Brian John Mitchell (Small Life Form) used samples from "Snow White" to craft his own ambient piece. I was also asked to record a more acoustic version. Ultimately, I decided to make a slight change to the lyrics so that I could at least upload one version for users in Russia. There is also a classic "Slowed & Reverb" version. Thus, I realized that after the censorship attack, the song needed to be re-issued. The result is a full-fledged maxi-single featuring new material.

Белоснежка – это песня, которую я написал в 2002 году, когда мне было 14 лет – тогда мы играли ее в рок-группе юности, и с тех пор даже осталась низкокачественная запись. Основной сюжет текста о Белоснежке, которая забывает свое отражение и саму себя, о волшебной золотой рыбке, которая гибнет по желанию, о некоей победе зла, которое принимают за добро, я увидел во сне. А в подростковые годы сны часто оставляют сильнейшее впечатление. Музыку набросал тогда же, и даже спустя более 20 лет пара мелодических ходов кажутся находкой. И я до сих пор считаю ее одной из лучших своих песен.
В 2025 году я вспомнил про нее и захотел записать так, как слышал в своей голове. Гитарные партии и текст остались теми же, что и 20 лет назад, я лишь сделал полную аранжировку в духе рок-группы (на этот раз one-man-band). И, конечно, сейчас играть эти партии было гораздо проще (они вообще не сложные), и в этом я увидел свою красоту. Это был полностью интроспективный и личный проект, поэтому в конце 2025 года я выпустил песню самостоятельно, со своей же обложкой, скомпилированной из старых фотографий из Сибири, чтобы композиция осталась в архивах.
Однако в начале 2026 года Белоснежку удалили со всех российских стриминговых площадок (а международные в России и так не работают из-за войны). Причина в новеллах российского законодательства: с 1 марта 2026 года любое, даже косвенное упоминание наркотиков и связанных тем в произведениях искусства не допускается. А Белоснежка начинается со строчек «Идет гроза, не думай о ней / Любовь наша села на иглу, забудь». Этого оказалось достаточно, чтобы автоматическая модерация и цензура удалила трек со всех площадок. Метафора в России умирает. В той же ситуации оказались тысячи артистов, поющих на русском языке.
Тем не менее, за несколько месяцев после релиза мои друзья и знакомые из разных периодов жизни оставили множество оценок песне. Павел Федосов (SAVL) сделал прекрасный ремикс, а Брайан Джон Митчелл (Small Life Form) использовал семплы Белоснежки для создания собственной эмбиент зарисовки. Также меня попросили сделать более акустическую версию. А сам я в итоге решился на небольшое изменение текста, чтобы я мог выложить хотя бы одну версию для российских пользователей. Присутствует также классическая Slowed & Reverb версия. Так я понял, что песню после атаки цензуры нужно издать заново. В итоге получился полноценный макси-сингл с новым материалом.
