“Las Cartas” is Cuervo Cuervo’s sophomore effort, the result of 5 years of touring, composing, and recording. Based on 10 cards from the Major Arcana of the Tarot, the album explores the depth and breadth of human emotion through a mystical lens, utilizing diverse instrumentation and evolving compositions.

At its core, the album is the result of two deeply transformative experiences that Cuervo Cuervo, Benjamin Hill and Agustin Ganem, shared in Mexico and Argentina.

The first is two months that the band spent in the cloud forests of Oaxaca, Mexico in the summer of 2019. They rented a traditional clay hut next to a river, and, living in solitude without electricity, gas or running water, they began to compose songs on guitar and ronroco. Some days, a local shepherd would bring them magical mushrooms from the forest. They would lose themselves in the woods for hours, only to return to the hut at night and connect with the Tarot, questioning themselves and their destiny, and in time, composing many of the songs that became the foundation of “Las Cartas”.

The second is four months the band spent trapped in Agustin’s house in Argentina at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020. In this forced solitude, surrounded by Agustin’s collection of stringed instruments from across Latin America, they spent their afternoons sipping mate, and in the evenings they drank wine and drew tarot cards, reminiscing on their
travels and recording many of the tracks that came to compose the album.

Since then, they have toured and recorded in service of enriching those initial ideas, creating a diverse palette of rhythms and moods, from cumbia to classical to downtempo, from the ecstasy of the party to the solitude of the mountains. “Las Cartas”, so inspired by 10 Major Arcana from the deck, is as diverse as life, and the Tarot, itself.

The complete album, Las Cartas, will be released on all platforms on June 25, 2024



Cuervo Cuervo is the project of Argentinian ronroco master Agustin Ganem and American producer Benjamin Hill. The two met in Bacalar, Mexico in 2019 and have been an unstoppable force ever since. Their project unifies Latin American and North American folk traditions, weaving new tapestries of sound. They have released music through Fertíl Discos, Resueno, Ritmos del Sur, and Cosmovisión, among others, with an album forthcoming with Magic Movement and Platoon. They have toured Mexico, Europe, and the United States extensively, recently making an 2024 appearance at Bahidora Festival in February and Merida Fest in 2025, and are now preparing to embark on a second summer tour in Europe in 2025, having made major festival appearances at Fusion in Germany and Ozora in Hungary, among many others, in 2024.
