In September 2018 I became a father, when my eldest daughter Isla was born. In our old home we had a music room set up, and I’d play Ambient vinyl to Isla as I’d rock her to sleep. This helped me come up with a concept called Sleeplaboratory, as a lullaby for young children, their tired parents or anyone else who could do with a rest. Earlier that year Sven Laux and I created a collaborative album for Fluid Audio called ‘Until We Fall’. This was also a lullaby, to our respective first-born daughters Isla and Ella. Before Isla was born I bought her a Bluetooth speaker, intending to play her the music Sven and I had created. I’d play a little Ambient music from the label too such as the Sleeplaboratory compilation, but in truth we never had much difficulty getting Isla to sleep - so that speaker didn’t get used much.

A couple of years later Isla asked about the speaker and I started making a playlist for her, which we called Calm Cloud. This featured some of the sleepiest tracks from over the years, most of which were released on Whitelabrecs. As she got older we bought her a Yoto player which is a gadget from which you can play children’s podcasts and stories. You can make your own custom cards too, so we made Calm Cloud into a Yoto card and Isla has played it every night ever since!

Isla has been keen to help with Whitelabrecs, so in 2025 we started up our Quiet Burrow show and in the first episode we chat about the Calm Cloud. This was a private playlist that has become very special around here - but we feel it is so strong in its ability to relax the mind or aid concentration, that we thought it would be nice to share it more widely with the world, as one of four compilation albums released to celebrate 10 years of Whitelabrecs. So with the permission of the artists, and the dreamy photography of Bob Burnett (who often contributes artwork for the Quiet Burrow), we’re pleased to present ‘Isla’s Calm Cloud’ - the original 14 tracks that are so dear to us.

Isla says ‘I listen to Calm Cloud every night to help me get to sleep. I love the album because it makes me think of day dreamy times and all the holidays I’ve been on. I hope it makes you feel calm’.
