00:00Today, we're going to talk about the most common operation done in the world, which

00:04is circumcision.

00:11So circumcision is done in many cultures, for example, in the Jews, the circumcision

00:16is done before 7 days, and in certain cultures such as Muslim, circumcision is done just

00:22before puberty at the age of around 11 to 13.

00:26Circumcision itself obviously is cultural and is religious, and it's done in different

00:31societies.

00:32However, in some families or in some societies, it is done according to a family tradition.

00:40For example, like father, like son, and if the father had it done, they will probably

00:45impose this on their children.

00:47Is there an absolute medical indication in order to do that?

00:51Obviously circumcision itself is more hygienic for boys, because after the circumcision,

00:58the glans penis is easily cleaned without the retraction of the foreskin.

01:02And there are at least 40 studies that actually highlighted circumcision reduces the risk

01:07of sexually transmitted infection, because removal of the glans itself will actually

01:13cause keratinization of the glans penis, and then subsequently allows less bacteria to

01:20be invaded into the penis itself, causing sexually transmitted infection.

01:26In addition to that, there are multiple evidence conducted in sub-Saharan deserts of Africa

01:34showing that circumcised men are 60% less risk of getting HIV transmission.

01:41This is because of lack of lung cells without the foreskin.

01:46So is it all good and no bad things?

01:49You have to take into account between 1.5 to 5% of people who undergo circumcision may

01:56have problems with complications.

01:59And also, circumcision without anesthesia is extremely painful, therefore never ever

02:05allow your children, if to undergo circumcision, to do it without anesthesia.

02:11So on that note, every parent has to weigh out pros and cons of circumcision, and never

02:17put your kids through the operations if it's unnecessary, especially just for the sake

02:24of family tradition.
