They are the new kids on the block, but promise to be no pushovers.

WITCO Credit Union's football team will be playing their opener on Saturday, but coach Ronaldo Russell says his players are confident going into the tournament.

00:00They may be new to the competition, but Whitco Credit Union's footballers are ready for the
00:04big stage, that being the Interbank Football League.
00:08As such, the players have been training assiduously at their sports club in Chamflair.
00:12Quinn Bess is the man who stands between the uprights.
00:15Like the rest of his colleagues, he too is looking forward to his team's opener on Saturday.
00:20So the WCU team are very excited, this will be our first year participating in the Interbank
00:26Football League.
00:27We'd like to thank the league for inviting us, as well as it's the 74th anniversary
00:34for the credit union, so we'd also like to thank them for the support as well, bringing
00:38all the members together to participate in this wonderful event.
00:43We are well prepared, our first game is against the defending champions, Republic Bank.
00:47We have a bit of history with them, based on hockey post tournaments in ballpark, that
00:52sort of thing, so it's a bit of a rivalry, and we look forward.
00:56We are very excited to the first game on Saturday at 4pm.
00:59Bess is also the co-captain of the Whitcoast side.
01:02And what does it mean to him to be given such a huge responsibility?
01:05Well, basically, I'm very honoured to be the co-captain.
01:11During the game, it's a lot of work in terms of helping the team with the communication,
01:15guiding guys, making sure that we stay within the permits of the game.
01:21I would liaise with the referee to see if we get a fair game, that sort of thing.
01:25The unassuming Ronaldo Russell is the coach of the team.
01:28And he takes pride in the fact that Whitco Credit Union's football team has come a long
01:32way.
01:33To be a part of, actually, integrating this team from, essentially, what is a pep-match
01:38team to a structured team is actually a really, really big honour, and I really, really am
01:44thankful that they would have showed the faith in my vision of the team and appointed me
01:49as the head coach.
01:51And speaking about that, based on what you just said, what is the chemistry like between
01:55players and coaching staff?
01:58I would say that this is a bit of a different environment in the sense of there's no huge
02:03age gap, so the disparity is not there.
02:05It means that I can identify with the frustrations, as well as I can identify with what exactly
02:11the goals are.
02:12A little more than just wins and losses, you know?
02:15I can feel myself in almost every one of these players, and, you know, I'd say that we have
02:20a really, really great chemistry.
02:22Despite being new to the bank league, Whitco Credit Union's footballers do not want the
02:27fledgling's tag attached to their name.
02:29After all, Coach Russell has made it clear his team is there to compete.
02:33With regards to the confidence, I'd say that we are very, very confident.
02:37We are here to compete.
02:38We are not here just to make up numbers, and what I'd say is that we are definitely a proud
02:45bunch, and we are going out there to not only represent ourselves, but to represent Whitco
02:50Credit Union to the best of our abilities.
02:52A total of 12 teams are participating in the Interbank Football League.
