A group shot during the Sunshine Snack Squash Junior Nationals 2025 Championships which
00:06
saw a few interesting matchups at the QPCC Squash Court.
00:11
In the under 13 boys final, Vere Chatagoone defeated Koen Mach 3-2 in what was an intense
00:16
battle.
00:29
It was one of several fierce rivalries on the night.
00:32
Josie Tung is following in the footsteps of her brother.
00:35
The 15-year-old won both the under 17 and under 19 divisions.
00:39
She has been playing the sport since age 7.
00:42
And after winning the under 15 title the previous year, Tung says it feels good to claim new
00:47
territory.
00:48
I'm very happy with it and I hope that I can continue that and I'm glad that I could
00:54
experience this and I'm also glad that I am kind of tolerant in both age groups.
01:02
She has no plans of slowing down.
01:04
My plans are to go to Castle just this year in Cayman Islands, win in individuals and help
01:11
the girls team in Castle win as well in Trinidad and Tobago.
01:16
And I also want to go to the US Open in the future.
01:19
And I also want to follow up in my brother's footsteps.
01:24
Tung attends the St. Joseph Convent Port of Spain.
01:27
Meantime, 14-year-old Ross de Juran, who attends the Fatima College, recaptured the under
01:32
crown and won the under 17 title for the first time.
01:37
This is his fifth year playing the sport.
01:40
My plans is to win the Caribbean tournament coming up and also to win Canadian Open.
01:50
Alright and when are those competitions?
01:52
Castle is in July I think and Canadian Open is in December.
01:59
Olivia Alam won the under 11 girls division.
02:03
It was good, it was challenging at some times but it made me good.
02:08
Salia Ali, brand manager of Sunshine Snacks, says they believe in the idea of building the
02:13
sport.
02:14
We have tournaments like this to challenge them and I think that's one of our pillars to stimulate
02:22
the growth of youth sports in Trinidad and obviously in Korea.
02:27
Despite winners being crowned, the court is still wide open for new entrants to make their
02:31
mark in a growing sport locally.
02:34
Sergio Dufour, TV6 Sport.
