00:32and mysteries to talk about the things large and small the mysteries of the ways of the lord and the
00:37ways in which he brings justice to your life today the subject matter is near and dear to my heart
00:44because it's something that the lord did with me early on in my walk and he helped kind of train
00:49me this way so i'm really excited to share this with you today and so the question i wanted to ask
00:55you is have you ever heard those verses like taste and see that the lord is good and thought well i'm
01:04not really sure i could taste or see the lord or second corinthians 2 15 for we are the aroma of
01:11christ to god among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing
01:17and i don't know about you i know initially i was kind of thinking like well maybe these are just
01:23idiomatic expressions or it's just really beautiful poetry but it's probably meaningless and to my walk
01:30with the lord but i am so happy to tell you that there is so much more behind this there is so much
01:38for you to grow in the lord and to mature and have holy spirit guide you not only for your own life but
01:46then in ministry for other people as well so just as we have five senses in the natural to discern
01:55and navigate the world around us we also have at least five spiritual senses that do the same thing
02:01to engage it with the spirit world around us the spiritual realm as some of you call it
02:07and to also pick up on what the lord is doing and to receive guidance from him so this might be the
02:15first time that you've ever heard this and you might be thinking wait spiritual senses discerning
02:22spiritual things yes you can you can you can and it's it's really wonderful and this is really going
02:29to help you with your discernment with decision making just with everyday life as well so let's look
02:35at a framework of thought especially if this is the first time you've heard of this and i'm going to
02:41first corinthians 2 verse 14 but the natural man does not receive the things of the spirit of god
02:49for they are foolishness to him nor can he know because they are spiritually discerned so let's break
02:59this down a little bit the natural man but the natural man the sensuous nature with its subjection to
03:06appetite and passion does not receive the things of the spirit of god those things are foolishness
03:13to that natural guy okay you see and he cannot know them he cannot understand the precepts of the lord
03:22either because these things are spiritually discerned and that means to judge to estimate or to determine
03:30so if the natural man does not have the capacity to experientially know the things of the spirit of
03:38god then who does well the next verse tells us that first corinthians 2 15 says but he who is
03:46spiritual judges all things yet he himself is rightly judged by no one and he who is spiritual is defined
03:56and again this is defined from a biblical perspective one who is filled with and governed by the spirit of
04:03god judges all things that word judge really means to determine to scrutinize so it's not so much like to
04:12pass judgment on someone it's scrutinizing it's making a determination so you are filled with the spirit
04:21of the living god you're governed by god and therefore you can know these spiritual things and the
04:29precepts of the lord you can discern them and just to take this a little bit further the lord is the
04:35spirit and guess what you're a spirit and first corinthians 6 17 says but the one united with the lord
04:43is one spirit with him if you're a born again believer in the lord jesus christ you have the lord
04:50they have come i say they meaning father son holy spirit but god is one so don't shoot me on that
04:57point when i said that that way but they've come to make their home inside of you you are one with
05:05the lord holy spirit then searches the deep things of god and he reveals that to who to us okay we were
05:14made in god's image and likeness and so we can function like our father and we mature into that
05:21we don't arrive just in the fullness of the stature of christ it's a it's a process transformation of glory
05:29to glory and all of that and not only that we may pop out having the authority that's been given to us
05:36but we need to learn how to use it exercising is a very important tool we must exercise our senses
05:44to discern between good and evil so write down hebrews 5 14 hebrews 5 14 says but solid food belongs to
05:55those who are a full age those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good
06:05and evil senses in this passage is referring to an organ of perception an external type of sense
06:16a faculty of the mind for perceiving understanding and judging so you have the the maturity of the lord
06:25in you knowing the word walking with him and then you also have those other senses of your spirit
06:33of your soul and of your body and everything works together so we're going to look at that spiritual
06:40sense of smell and discerning good and evil and we have a lot of common idioms that that involve smell
06:47and they're really not speaking to the natural sense but moreover that sort of discerning kind of a
06:56sense so it's a different sense of smell not involving your physical nose we say something smells funny
07:03something is rotten in the state of denmark someone came out of a situation smelling like a rose or you
07:11hear people go i smell a rat in certain situations wake up and smell the coffee or someone didn't pass the
07:19smell test so what are the examples of the spiritual sense of smell in the bible let's look at a few
07:27scriptures this is from second corinthians chapter 2 verse 14 i'm going to read down through 16 but
07:33thanks to god who in christ always leads us in triumphal procession and through us spreads the
07:41fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere for we are the aroma of christ to god among those who are
07:50being saved and among those who are perishing to one a fragrance from death to death to the other
07:59a fragrance from life to life so there are plenty of other references uh there and they can be poetic
08:07and figurative just think of the number of times that certain sacrifices were considered a sweet
08:13smelling savor to the lord and how the prayers of the saints are often referred to as incense that they're
08:20they go into the bowls of incense those golden bowls in heaven so with your spiritual sense of smell you can
08:29see through scent always remember that your spiritual nose knows yes i know it's cheesy but it'll help you
08:39remember also remember that it is not unusual if you are the only one to smell it you could be in a room
08:47full of people and there might only be one or two of you that pick up on the spiritual scent so don't let
08:54that don't let that stop you or discourage you i want to give you some practical examples of the spiritual
09:00sense of smell from my experience to help you understand a bit about how it functions and this is by no means a
09:08comprehensive list this is just a few of the examples from my life and so the first example i want to
09:15share actually has both spiritual smell and hearing because there was a word of knowledge from first
09:22corinthians 12 if you need to look that up within this same and this one this first example was the
09:30presence of the lord in a deliverance and healing and years ago i was part of a healing and deliverance
09:36team we were ministering to a husband and wife and they absolutely adored one another but they had
09:42some areas that they just couldn't get breakthrough in and the husband spoke with a very broken um kind
09:51of english he had broken english but he had a very thick accent i wasn't standing close enough to him
09:56to really even understand what it was i couldn't identify what country he was from
10:01and as we continued to pray for this couple and as i prayed uh i had this urge and sometimes the bible
10:10refers to it as an unction uh from the lord to say a word out loud that i was hearing and it wasn't one
10:18that i was familiar with and so uh when it was my turn i i said sir i don't know what this means but
10:26the lord keeps saying soteria to me for you and this man just came undone and wept and he was
10:37thanking the lord and it was only then that i understood that he was actually greek because of
10:44some of the words that he was saying and that the the word soteria was a greek word i just didn't know
10:50that word and it is a word that deals with uh with salvation it and it also means deliverance and
10:58healing and that's what this man had needed and it was connected to a very traumatic incident he had
11:07and because of the traumatic incident he couldn't pray when he would steal himself to pray all he would
11:13do was relive and it was a horribly violent incident he would just relive it so he couldn't really
11:20pray or feel comfortable praying to the lord when he explained this and he realized that the lord
11:29knew him knew exactly what he was dealing with and he was healing him of that thing this very day
11:36and that hit his spirit so hard when that happened a supernatural fragrance of frankincense and myrrh
11:46permeated the atmosphere oh my hair and my body just stood up it is still that powerful today this
11:52fragrance hit and it was so strong and so potent and it was intoxicating how thick and how rich this
12:03scent was and it was unlike anything i've smelled anointing oil before this was unlike that this was
12:10like smelling in 5d or something it was absolutely wild and it was so powerful i fell over through a set
12:18of chairs i just fell out pretty much right there on the spot but it wasn't the oil it wasn't perfume it
12:26wasn't anything like that it was the living god bringing healing and deliverance to that man right then
12:34it was so beautiful he poured out his fragrance all over him and that couple when they left that day
12:42i remember him saying that it was as if they had gotten married all over again today and the two of
12:49them just wept because of the presence of the lord a second example i want to give you had to do with
12:56revelation and wisdom from the lord and i was watching an online conference at that time and the
13:03presenter was teaching things that kind of challenged my current belief structure where i was in my walk
13:11in my understanding but my spirit was like oh that's a witness of the truth what he's talking about is
13:18true but boy i was having a hard time with it just kind of getting it through my paradigm and i was a
13:25little nervous about receiving this revelation but i really knew that it was true and all of a sudden
13:32i start smelling fir trees like that kind of like a christmas tree scent all around me and i was
13:38thinking like why am i smelling this like it didn't make any sense to me so what do you do when you have
13:44no idea what's going on you ask the lord just full stop just write that down you know if you don't know
13:50what to do ask the lord because in some way shape or form he is going to answer you it just might not be
13:57in the way in which you think but anyway so i'm like lord why the scent of fir trees and then i
14:06realized okay i need to look into this because some of the things that that he shared with me at the
14:11time and kind of where i was in my journey and so what it all came down to was the difference between
14:16kind of deciduous and coniferous trees because the deciduous ones they lose all their leaves at once
14:23in in the fall and that can be as you are going through revelation like you need to be able to
14:31have something that forms within you christ is formed within you and not have something shocking
14:38come along necessarily unless you really need it so what he was was saying is that with with his
14:44revelation so that he is not basically exploding your brain what he does what he does is you become
14:53like an evergreen kind of tree you have the old understanding what it all came down to was the way
15:00that fir trees grow their needles out because it takes about three to five years for the total lifespan
15:05of a needle however you have all the inside needles that have kind of they've already started to age
15:13and those are able to drop off and it doesn't hurt the tree and you have the new revelation that's
15:20forming and so it's more or less he was saying to me at that time that it's okay i am not going to
15:28absolutely break your paradigm in one shot like a deciduous tree you are going to be in a position
15:35where you've been able to process the old thought the old understanding and you can let go what you
15:42need to let go and receive what i have that is new for you so that's what it was it was connected
15:48to wisdom and revelation from the lord another way that this functions is absolutely fantastic is in
15:56the discerning of spirits and some of you are going to identify with this if you've ever been in your
16:02house for some people who live up north that's going to be kind of in the spring once everything is
16:09defrosted and the sun is out and everything starts to warm up you'll be walking around your house and
16:15then it's like like what is that what is that horrible horrible stench and it it just it's not
16:23exactly discernible you can't quite figure it out and pretty much you end up going it must be a dead
16:29mouse in the wall or one that went down the chimney or it's a dead squirrel or something like that and so
16:35you end up where you're trying to sniff around and figure out where this stench is coming from and and
16:41and sometimes that's not a dead mouse on your wall uh sometimes that's an unclean spirit and you'll
16:48know specifically if you start moving around and it tends to follow you and and you know you don't stink
16:54like death so you know that that is something nasty it shouldn't be in your house it shouldn't be in your
17:00realm so the next time that that happens then tell the unclean spirit to leave your realm
17:07your house and to never return to your dress ever again in jesus's name and this discerning of spirits
17:14aspect of the sense of smell is fantastic because you will be able to smell the angels of the lord
17:21the lord himself or other nasties that might want to come in especially if you're in prayer over someone
17:29or a deliverance or something like that there are certain sins that well i shouldn't say certain ones
17:36they probably all do come with a spiritual scent so you can actually smell what the person is
17:44struggling with sometimes i would pay close attention to that when you're praying because you can you can
17:50know things that the lord would put in your heart and it's not necessarily for you to ever say anything
17:55okay don't get yourself in trouble if it's not something for you to share don't share it okay moving
18:03right along all right another another aspect of how the spiritual sense of smell works is a confirmation
18:11of what to pray for and this example happened a few years ago and i was driving on a kind of a back
18:20country road and there was a car that pulled right out in front of me and i mean pulled in front of me
18:24and i was thinking oh my goodness you know there's there's no one behind me they could have waited two
18:30seconds but they did it they pulled out in front of me and so rather than be annoyed and have some
18:37kind of you know road rage kind of a situation i was like well you know lord thank you you probably
18:43kept me out of trouble on the road ahead so thank you so much for slowing me down so that i can avoid
18:49trouble ahead but as i'm just kind of behind the individual the car really starts to swerve but it was
18:56swerving in a way that i was thinking that the person in front of me must have had a heart attack
19:01or maybe they dropped their cell phone on the floor and they were doing the i'm gonna drive and reach
19:06for it at the same time thing and it just was like getting worse and so i just started praying because
19:12i'm thinking well what do i do there's me and this guy in the back road and i didn't want to take my
19:17eyes off the road to be fiddling in my purse to get my phone out to try to call anyone but as soon
19:23as i asked the lord what is going on with this guy the scent of alcohol filled my car and it was
19:31so strong you know we're in the middle of the country it's it's not like there's there's no natural
19:38reason why i would go through a giant plume of vodka in the middle of nowhere okay so i mean let let's
19:45let's be real about it yes have your mind debunk things if you need to however i mean come on
19:51so i start praying for this man and and i was like be sober in the name of jesus and alcohol dry
20:01up in jesus's name so i'm just praying this way and and like the it was like the guy just
20:08came to himself and he just started driving normally and i was thinking like oh my gosh that
20:15just happened so thank you lord you know thank you thank you thank you thank you and i followed him
20:20a ways because it was the way i was going i was not stalking him i just followed along and then he
20:26turned off into a house and i was like okay thank you lord so you can get direction and prayer for
20:32people especially if you don't know what's what's going on you can pick up on that with your spiritual
20:38sense of smell so the lord really had mercy on that driver that day and he worked through my
20:45obedience to act upon what he showed me so you just never know what the lord is going to do
20:51and the last one i wanted to share with you is in worship to the lord it is one-on-one fellowship
20:59time with him and so you just never know what he might bless you with but various scents will come
21:06into the atmosphere in worship with him and sometimes it's a strong floral scent and if you think about
21:13it the word refers to the lord as the rose of sharon the lily of the valley there are these
21:20beautiful scents that will come with the presence of the lord and sometimes it's the scent of the oil
21:26of joy if you're familiar with that and psalm 45 7 and 8 says god has anointed thee with the oil of joy
21:34above thy fellows all thy garments are fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia those scents
21:42would be so so present and sometimes they would even cling in the natural later that you would
21:50still be able to smell them they would often stick to my hair he will never leave you or forsake you
21:57and when you hang out with him his scent gets on you it's like when you hug someone and they have
22:04like a really strong perfume and you get home and it's like they're standing there with you
22:09you can still smell them because their scent got on you it's the same thing the lord's scent when you
22:14spend time with him it gets on you and then as you go out in among your days then you are that fragrance
22:23of christ going out on his behalf and other people can pick it up too now they may not say oh i you know
22:31i walked by you and i smelled the lord they'll they'll walk by and say there's something about
22:38you and i don't know what it is i'm so drawn to you and i'm so sorry i don't know why you'll get
22:46people apologizing because they feel like they're being weird and it's like no that's just the presence
22:53of the lord on your life and it's drawing those to you it's and ultimately it's drawing those people
23:02to him so that they can understand who he is so i just want to encourage you with that be open to
23:11that and i really hope that this has helped you understand how your spiritual sense of smell can
23:17operate and how holy spirit uses supernatural guidance through it and i want to encourage you
23:25this is ephesians 5 1 and 2 therefore be imitators of god as beloved children and walk in love
23:34as christ loved us and gave himself up for us a fragrant offering and sacrifice to god let's pray
23:43father thank you so much for my brothers and sisters who are watching i bless them in the name
23:49of yeshua hamashiach lord we are made in your image and likeness lord and i thank you that you are
23:58equipping your children with the realization of their spiritual sense of smell lord i am asking you
24:08that you do with them what you have done for me which is to help guide me in who you are in my life
24:16all of these things for your glory that through their spiritual sense of smell they will be able
24:24to see what you're doing that they will see through scent and know what you're doing and what is the most
24:33beautiful will of you lord jesus and to do that and be obedient to it thank you so much in jesus's name
24:41amen and definitely let me know if you start to receive spiritual scent and pay attention now that is your job
24:53is to pay attention because he will you prayed that prayer with me and you received the scripture
25:02and the testimony of jesus which is the spirit of prophecy these things will start to happen for you
25:10and i'm so excited that your walk will come alive and again this is all glory unto him this isn't for us
25:17this is for helping other people this is for us being in the right position in our hearts and remembering
25:25that we are the righteousness of god in christ jesus and loving his people thanks so much for watching
