The funeral service of Tara Lochansingh was held on Thursday.

It’s been one week since she saved her grand-daughter before drowning, when the Matura River suddenly rose, pushing them down stream.

They were on a family trip on the Emancipation Day holiday when the tragedy occurred.

Lochansingh’s funeral service was held at her family’s home in Navet Village, Rio Claro, our reporter Cindy Raghubar-Teekersingh tells us more.

00:12to 47-year-old Tara Lochan Singh, the grandmother of one whose final act was pushing her granddaughter
00:19to safety when strong currents in a rising Matura River pulled them both in, drowned
00:25on August 1st, her body recovered a day later by Coast Guard divers.
00:30At a funeral service in Navid village, Rio Claro, a relative told those gathered how
00:36Lochan Singh's granddaughter responded to the ordeal.
00:39Five-year-old Arya, who saw when her Mama Tara went down on the water on that tragic day
00:47and she saw angels with wings take Mama Tara up to heaven.
00:53Even in the night, they were trying to explain to Arya that Mama Tara is of no more.
01:02And she said, no, Mama Tara is not dead.
01:06Mama Tara is with Jesus in heaven.
01:09And she was quite contented and quite normal.
01:14Her only concern was that if Mama Tara would get food in heaven.
01:17Delivering the eulogy, Lochan Singh's daughter-in-law described Tara as someone with a love for the outdoors,
01:25a family person who was the life of every party, while relaying letters from Lochan Singh's husband and son.
01:32Then, she read a letter from little Arya.
01:35It's a few words from Tara's granddaughter, Arya.
01:40Mama, I love you and I wish you were still here.
01:43You used to take me everywhere.
01:46To the mall, to the zoo, to the beach, and to the bouncy castle.
01:51My Mama was a nice person.
01:53Mama taught me the alphabet and how to count in my fingers.
01:58Mama taught me how to exercise.
02:00Mama saved my life and she is my hero.
02:03My Mama is an angel in heaven with Jesus.
02:07Lochan Singh's body was first taken to her Madras Road, St Helena home on Thursday,
02:12then brought to Rio Claro for the service,
02:15then on to the Mafic Incremation site for final rites.
