00:00Hello there, welcome to your latest forecast from the Met Office.
00:04And high pressure continues to dominate as we go through the weekend into the beginning
00:09of next week as well.
00:10Though the high pressure centre to the north, it just means there is a keen northeasterly
00:13breeze dragging some low cloud here and also squeezing the ice bars for the next few days
00:18also brings some fairly strong and gusty winds across south-western parts of England, Cornwall,
00:23West Devon in particular gusts of 30 to 40 miles an hour at times.
00:27And I just wanted to show you something a little different to start this broadcast.
00:31And it's pretty hot across much of Europe at the moment as well and we've seen some wildfires
00:36develop across Spain and Portugal and all this is this smoke that's transferring northwards.
00:41So if you noticed a great sunrise this morning or the sky isn't as blue out there at the
00:46moment where it is sunny, you can see the low cloud across northern and eastern parts of
00:50the UK there with that brighter white.
00:52But there is a lot of smoke in our atmosphere at the moment and it will hang around for the
00:56next few days and lead to some enhanced sunsets and sunrises.
01:01So for this afternoon, hazy sunshine across south-west England stretching into Wales, Northern
01:06Ireland here.
01:07But the cloud across central and eastern parts of England should break up as we move through
01:11the day.
01:12Plenty of sunny spells across much of Scotland, breezy for Shetland, perhaps the clouds thick
01:16enough for one or two light showers here.
01:18But a dry afternoon for most of us and temperatures rising in that sunshine, 26, 27, locally 28 Celsius.
01:26But cooler along the east coast where we had that low cloud this morning and then as it
01:31breaks up it will allow some sunny spells.
01:33But the wind is just coming in off the North Sea here so it will be chillier than it has
01:37been of late temperatures in the low 20s.
01:41Through this evening time the cloud continues to melt away.
01:43We see some late sunshine before dusk and it is a dry night to come for most.
01:47And then as we head overnight we'll see the low cloud returning off the North Sea across
01:51eastern parts of England, northeast England as well.
01:54It could be thick enough for some light rain and drizzle.
01:57Northern Scotland also seeing some of that low cloud.
02:00But for many it's a dry night.
02:01Clear spells.
02:02The mist and fog patch is forming where winds are light though it does remain breezy along
02:06southern coast of England into southwest England.
02:09Temperatures overall a little lower than they have been of late so perhaps just a bit more
02:14comfortable for sleeping.
02:16Sunday morning a grey start across eastern and northeastern parts of Scotland, eastern England
02:20here.
02:21Clouds thick enough for one or two spots of light rain and drizzle.
02:24But otherwise plenty of hazy sunshine on Sunday morning and sunshine in abundance for many
02:30days.
02:31As we go through the day with that high pressure still in charge though it does remain quite
02:34cloudy across eastern England.
02:35A few showers pushing in off the North Sea particularly around the wash into East Anglia
02:40coastlines could see a few showers.
02:42Otherwise it's largely dry and in that sunshine again temperatures responding 25 to 27 perhaps
02:49locally 28 celsius quite widely.
02:51So feeling warm still breezy across parts of Cornwall with that breeze coming in off the sea
02:57it will just feel a little chillier here.
02:59And then the North Sea breeze as well under the cloud it will be chilly temperatures struggling
03:0318 to 21 celsius here with one or two showers so it will be a little fresher than it has been
03:09of late.
03:11High pressure looks like it is set to dominate as we go through the end of Sunday into the
03:15beginning of next week.
03:17Initially cloud pushing back in but then it should retreat back to the coast into Monday
03:21as well.
03:22We are just keeping an eye on a few showers perhaps pushing into the far south west through
03:26Monday which could be on the heavy and thundery side otherwise the outlook is largely dry
03:30and settled.
03:32But there is a slow trend down in temperatures initially above average but by the middle of
03:36the week where they should be for the time of year generally the high teens to low 20s.
