00:00Hello there, welcome to your latest Met Office forecast.
00:03It is still high pressure that's dominating our weather and it will continue to be that way through much of the weekend.
00:09Looking at the bigger picture, high pressure has come down from the north, so it is introducing some cloud across eastern areas for the next 24 hours or so.
00:17And then just this area of low pressure through the weekend into the beginning of next week just wants to move in a little further eastward,
00:23could introduce the risk of some showers to western areas, something to keep an eye on.
00:27But for the rest of this afternoon, plenty of sunny spells, particularly across England and Wales and broken sunshine across central southern parts.
00:35Cloudier skies, northern Ireland, parts of Scotland, but much drier here.
00:39A chance of one or two light showers, but nothing compared to the thunderstorms that we saw yesterday.
00:44And a bit of a keen northerly breeze down the east coast, so there could be some low cloud that laps onto shore at times.
00:49So generally a north-south split in the weather for this afternoon, and we'll see that with our temperatures as well.
00:54Under the cloud across northern parts of the UK, 24 to 25 Celsius, but in the sunshine reaching the high 20s, perhaps 30, 31 Celsius as a maximum temperature this afternoon.
01:05So feeling quite hot in that August sunshine, and UV levels also high as well.
01:10As we move through into this evening time, the cloud could become thick enough for some light rain and drizzle at times across southeast Scotland.
01:16And the cloud extends across eastern parts of England, moves inland during the early hours, some drizzle in that too.
01:22Murky conditions developing over the higher ground.
01:25Clearer skies to western parts, a breeze down the east coast as well.
01:30And temperatures, another mild night for everyone, generally remaining in double figures, 14 to 17 Celsius.
01:36So fairly uncomfortables for sleeping across parts of England and Wales after the hot day today.
01:41So a great start across central and eastern parts for the weekend to begin with, some rain and drizzle in places.
01:48But slowly through the day, the cloud should lift and break, and it should allow some bright spells here.
01:53Best of the sunshine, parts of Wales, the west country, extending into northern Ireland, central northern parts of Scotland, generally seeing plenty of sunshine too.
02:01The sunshine perhaps turning hazy at times across the southwest.
02:04And another thing to notice across the southwest is the wind will pick up as well here.
02:08We could see gusts around 30 to 40 miles an hour or so, so it could lead to some local disruption through the day on Saturday.
02:15Here, it may just take the edge off the temperatures a little too.
02:18But in the sunshine, temperatures reaching 27, 28, possibly 29 Celsius, so not quite as high compared to today.
02:25Mid-20s generally across central and eastern areas where the sun comes out.
02:29If it stays cloudy, more like the low 20s, so a little bit cooler overall on Saturday for many of us, but perhaps feeling a little warmer for parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, where there will be a bit more sunshine.
02:40And that sunshine will continue into Sunday for many as well.
02:43Again, a grey start, perhaps down some eastern coast, but the low cloud should burn back to coastal stretches.
02:49And even here, we'll see some bright or sunny spells developing at times.
02:53Sunshine turning hazy at times as weather fronts try to edge in a little closer.
02:56So maybe the risk of one or two showers in the far west later.
02:59The winds should fall a little lighter across southwest England as well.
03:02And temperatures still widely, the mid-20s, locally 27, 28 Celsius across central and southern parts once more.
03:09So high pressure, keeping it largely settled through the rest of this today and into the weekend and beginning of next week as well.
