Low cloud pushes back inland over eastern and central areas this evening, while a few showers affect the South West. There will be some clear spells mainly in western areas. This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the evening of 18/08/2025. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Alex Deakin.
00:00Hello again. Pinning down low cloud is always tricky when the winds are coming in from the North Sea and it's going to continue to give us headaches for the next day or so.
00:10It is likely to push back inland the cloud as we go through Monday night and into Tuesday.
00:15We've seen a few scattered showers in the southwest of England and southwest Wales.
00:19Still a possibility of one or two heavy ones during the evening.
00:22But for most places it will be dry just if that cloud is thick enough we could see some drizzle at times along some of those North Sea coasts.
00:30The west coast of Scotland will stay clear and it's here where in the countryside we made it down into single figures.
00:37But for most we will keep those temperatures in the teens to start Tuesday.
00:41We are going to start with a lot of low cloud though quite a grey start for the majority.
00:46Hopeful for some good spells of sunshine across the south coast of England, the west coast of Wales and again the western side of Scotland.
00:53It may well brighten up elsewhere too but still the potential for a sprinkling of showers.
00:59Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, the Isles of Scilly could be on the heavy side too but pretty well scattered.
01:04I suspect most areas will stay dry.
01:07And inland it may well brighten up at times.
01:09Could see some glimmers of sunshine.
01:11But the northeast of England and the north and the east of Scotland always likely to stay pretty drab.
01:16And with that breeze coming in from the North Sea likely to be pretty chilly as well with temperatures not much higher on the coast of 15 or 16 degrees.
01:25Whereas the south coast of England could see highs of 25 maybe even 26 degrees.
01:29That's one of the warm spots when we compare the temperatures to average.
01:33Western Scotland as well with some sunshine here likely to be a bit above average.
01:37But notice those lower temperatures below average where we keep that thick cloud across parts of northeast England and eastern Scotland when compared to the average for August.
01:48Not a great deal of change during Tuesday evening.
01:50Still the possibility one or two heavy showers maybe Dorset, Somerset as well as Devon and Cornwall.
01:56The cloud continuing to return across the central and eastern parts of England through the night and into Wednesday morning.
02:02But what we're going to see is slightly cooler air pushing south.
02:05That cooler air is also drier air so I'm a bit more optimistic that the cloud will break up a little bit faster through Wednesday.
02:12Always the possibility of some of the coasts may stay a bit dull but elsewhere certainly inland hopeful for a bit more sunshine to come through during Wednesday.
02:20It may not feel much warmer however temperatures like to be a degree or so down with that cooler air moving in.
02:27But with some sunshine out of the breeze pleasant enough as temperatures in the south get into the low 20s.
02:32But again feeling quite cool especially if it does stay grey on some of those North Sea coasts.
02:38High pressure is the dominant feature of the weather through this week which is keeping things dry.
02:42But it's that cooler air that's pushing its way slowly south that will be noticeable under the influence of high pressure.
02:49We'll all have cooler fresher feels particularly so in the mornings.
02:53Those night time temperatures likely to drop quite a bit down later this week.
02:57But that high pressure will keep things generally dry for the rest of this working week.
03:03Not good news if you are after some rain.
