Welcome back to Brands Hatch for round five of the Bennett's British Superbike Championship, a series that this year saw the return from the world scene of the 2022 champ, Brad Ray. Brad spent most of his off time during the winter peddling around the Pyrenees, and it shows after nine races of 11 in 2025, he's lining up a breakaway.
00:00:51We're four stages down with seven left to go in this year's race, and at the moment, it's a breakaway of one.
00:01:02No one could get close to him. Brad is back in business.
00:01:06Ray's got no teammates around him, but that isn't slowing him down.
00:01:14Brad Ray will secure the treble here at Donington Park. Brad Ray is so good to have him back.
00:01:21So far, he's dominated on the flat.
00:01:25We're running out of words for Brad Ray, the first ever double treble in his Superbike history. He cleans up at Snet.
00:01:34And in all kinds of weather.
00:01:37Brad Ray, we're running out of words, and he equals the record for most wins in a season.
00:01:44But the mountain is yet to come.
00:01:49What a day it has been.
00:01:51No one can match him. Brilliant stuff. A masterclass from Bradley Ray.
00:01:56He's proven his pedigree, lifting the title before.
00:02:00Bradley Ray is the 2022 Phoenix British Superbike champion.
00:02:06But there's still a lot to get right if he wants to do so again.
00:02:10From the darkest clouds comes a ray of light.
00:02:15It's on the other riders now to stake their claims to this year's crown.
00:02:28Yep, nine wins from 11 so far for Brad Ray.
00:02:31And as the Tour de France reaches its climax this weekend here on TNT Sports,
00:02:36in BSB, it's the chasing pack that really have a mountain to climb.
00:02:40But Brandt Hatch poses a particular challenge to Brad,
00:02:43who's yet to score a podium here at his home track.
00:02:48A very warm welcome along.
00:02:50A special guest to guide us through the action this weekend.
00:02:52Glenn Irwin reunited with his old teammate at last, Shane Byrne,
00:02:57which I guess makes James Whistom some kind of mentor or team manager
00:03:00or something in between.
00:03:02Veteran.
00:03:03A veteran, yeah. We're all veterans, I'm afraid, apart from you, Glenn.
00:03:06How are you doing, first of all?
00:03:07Big smash at Snetterton.
00:03:09And you've had quite a bit of work done since then.
00:03:11How's it feeling?
00:03:12Yeah, I'm good, Matt.
00:03:14I feel a lot better than what I probably imagined at this stage of recovery.
00:03:18You know, without taking any chances and continuing to follow doctor's advice,
00:03:21we are well and truly ahead of schedule,
00:03:24to the point where Wits already asked me what I'm doing with this pollution
00:03:28after this weekend.
00:03:29And I think I might be handing it to him.
00:03:32I think you're malingering.
00:03:34I think it's just a big condice.
00:03:35I brought my pelvis once and I had a big framework out here,
00:03:38tubes and all sorts of drains in it.
00:03:40You look unbelievable for what you've been through.
00:03:43Yeah, you know, I feel good.
00:03:45I have a 15 centimetre titanium screw.
00:03:48Right across the sacrum?
00:03:49Right across, from right hip to left hip.
00:03:52I have another one that goes halfway.
00:03:53And immediately after the surgery, I suddenly had strength.
00:03:56I had mobility.
00:03:57And then from then, it's a target to just come back.
00:04:00And like I say, I think that will be much, much sooner.
00:04:03I think we'll all be looking forward to that.
00:04:05Perhaps the only person who won't shake it will be Brad,
00:04:08because Glenn was looking like his strongest contender
00:04:11at the early couple of rounds of the season.
00:04:13Yes, it's difficult to talk about Glenn when he's kind of here with us, isn't it?
00:04:17But yeah, he's done a great job.
00:04:19And PBM team's a great team.
00:04:21He fits that back absolutely perfectly.
00:04:23And he's been riding really well.
00:04:24There's been times throughout this season in the beginning
00:04:26where, you know, Glenn's been the fastest person on the track.
00:04:29And, you know, a bad start or maybe a bad qualifying session
00:04:31has cost you a little bit, hasn't it?
00:04:32And sort of come through towards the end of the races.
00:04:35But he'll be back.
00:04:36I mean, we spoke at breakfast.
00:04:38And he was like, oh, yeah, I could be back at the next round or whatever.
00:04:40And I was like, oh, my God.
00:04:41Just heal up a little bit, you know.
00:04:43There's a lot of season left.
00:04:44And come back strong, not come back early.
00:04:47And I'm sure he'll do whatever he needs to do.
00:04:49I think the disappointing thing for us was,
00:04:51first of all, disappointing for you that you hear yourself.
00:04:53But we're a little bit disappointed that we all thought that on his day,
00:04:57Glenn was the one both with the speed and the kind of backside
00:05:01to go and have a go at kind of Brad, you know.
00:05:04Objectively speaking, of course.
00:05:06And objectively speaking, Glenn, what do you make of Brad's performances
00:05:09in your absence over the last couple of rounds?
00:05:11Yeah, he's been fantastic.
00:05:13You know, even before my injury, I thought Donington Park was a race
00:05:17where the two of us really showcased the level of British superbikes.
00:05:22You know, we were riding around in lap times that would put you in the top five
00:05:25in World Superbike.
00:05:26But talking about Brad and not myself, when I arrived to him,
00:05:30we pulled nearly three seconds and cut to him and thought,
00:05:32this is going to be one of them races.
00:05:34Four laps to go.
00:05:35I'll just pick my spot and I'll win.
00:05:38But how he responded, how he rode defensively,
00:05:40how he done his second fastest lap of the race on the last lap,
00:05:44it was enough to put off myself who was breaking the lap record.
00:05:47It was enough to be defensive enough to secure another victory.
00:05:52And that was impressive.
00:05:53I left that weekend still full of belief that we could take it to him,
00:05:58particularly at Snedderton, where it all kind of went wrong.
00:06:00We know he likes to go from the beginning,
00:06:02but how he can go at the beginning and how he could respond
00:06:05was very, very impressive.
00:06:07I do tip my hat to him and have a lot of respect for him.
00:06:09It's perhaps surprising.
00:06:11Well, it was for us anyway to arrive here, Shane,
00:06:12and see the statistic that he's never had a podium
00:06:14at the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit.
00:06:16But he laid down a marker this morning.
00:06:18Yeah, he did.
00:06:19And don't worry, I've been winding him up about it.
00:06:20No end all week.
00:06:22He is funny because it's our home track.
00:06:24Obviously, you know, he's probably 40 minutes away from here
00:06:27when he's in the UK and loves the tracks.
00:06:30One year on a super sport bike, loves the place.
00:06:32Nothing against it whatsoever,
00:06:33but just never had a podium on a super bike.
00:06:35And I think this weekend's a big weekend for him, you know.
00:06:38I think if he gets the job done here and gets a win this weekend,
00:06:40I think that last little piece that's maybe needed
00:06:42just to kick on another gear will fall into place.
00:06:46And as you say, you know,
00:06:47he's done a good job this morning in qualifying.
00:06:48And, yeah, fingers crossed he can get the job done again this afternoon.
00:06:52But, interestingly, three champions.
00:06:55Scott Redden, last time he was here, won his championship,
00:06:57third place on the grid.
00:06:58Kyle Ride, current champion, second place on the grid.
00:07:01Bradley, last time he was here, he took a championship in 2022.
00:07:03So, three British champions across the front row makes for a great race this afternoon.
00:07:09Yeah, we'll get into qualifying in a bit.
00:07:11Plenty of contenders to make their mark here at Brands Hatch this afternoon.
00:07:14Not least, also an emerging potential championship contender
00:07:17in the shape of Rory Skinner.
00:07:19He's been on the podium at the last three rounds,
00:07:21and he was a winner last time out at Knock Hill.
00:07:23Home is where the heart is.
00:07:26Rory Skinner wins here at Knock Hill.
00:07:31Winning at Knock Hill for me is always something that, you know, I strive to do.
00:07:35You know, it's my home track.
00:07:36I'm from 25 minutes north up the road, and it's, yeah,
00:07:39with all my friends and family there, it was a good thing to do.
00:07:42And, yeah, you know, to have been able to stop Brad Ray on his winning streak
00:07:46is certainly a special feeling, you know.
00:07:48It was, somebody had to do it at some point,
00:07:50and, yeah, I'm glad I managed to get it done, but it was nice.
00:07:53It was nice to be at Knock Hill, nice to be on the podium in all three races,
00:07:56and just to have a bit of consistency.
00:07:57Four podiums in the last five races,
00:07:59it's nice to be heading in a direction where we can be consistently at the front.
00:08:03Now, you're third in the championship.
00:08:06It's been a big change as well, not just for you,
00:08:08for the team, you're swapping the Ducati.
00:08:10How's that been coming on?
00:08:11It's been different, and it's been difficult as well at the same time.
00:08:15You know, we didn't get off to the best start at the beginning of the season
00:08:18and testing and stuff.
00:08:19You know, it was difficult with a couple of electrical kind of gremlins
00:08:22that just wouldn't disappear,
00:08:24and eventually the boys figured it out.
00:08:26You know, they were flat out, scratching their heads,
00:08:28pulling their hair out, trying to get it sorted,
00:08:30and, yeah, once we got things kind of sorted out,
00:08:32it was, yeah, I wouldn't say plain sailing,
00:08:35but it was a lot smoother from there,
00:08:36and I instantly felt at home on the bike.
00:08:38I felt comfortable on it,
00:08:39and I felt just really, really, like, natural on it.
00:08:43It was just nice.
00:08:44It's kind of just clicked with me,
00:08:45and, you know, I think a podium at Doyington Park,
00:08:47a podium at Snetterton,
00:08:48and three at Notkill, I think, kind of shows the position we're in now.
00:08:53You know, we're able to be consistently at the front,
00:08:55and Snetterton and Notkill on the front row from qualifying as well.
00:08:59So, for me, we're heading in the right direction.
00:09:01We're going in the kind of area where we need to be,
00:09:03and it's nice.
00:09:05It fills me with a lot of confidence.
00:09:06So, what are your aims for this weekend there, here at Browns Hatch?
00:09:09I think more of the same, really.
00:09:11You know, what we've kind of been working on all year.
00:09:13You know, top five is our goal at the minute.
00:09:15You know, it's a long season.
00:09:16There's a lot of races,
00:09:17and until the showdown comes into form,
00:09:18you know, anybody can kind of be in the mix.
00:09:20So, as long as we're going to be in the top five in the races,
00:09:23and if a podium presents itself,
00:09:24then, you know, we'll push ourselves for that.
00:09:26But, at the minute, we're just trying to keep things calm.
00:09:28You know, it's the first time here with the Ducati at Browns Hatch.
00:09:31Every place we go is somewhere new for us with the bike.
00:09:33So, it's just a case of learning and adapting as we go,
00:09:36and if we can be at the front end,
00:09:37which I'm sure that the boys will give me a bike
00:09:39that's capable of doing that,
00:09:40then I think we won't have much problem at all.
00:09:44James Hayden with the questions there, of course.
00:09:46Glenn, obviously, he's on the same bike to you, Rory, this year.
00:09:49What do you make of his adaptation to Ducati so far?
00:09:52I think his adaptation has been very quick.
00:09:55And if I'm being truthfully honest,
00:09:56and if I was an advisor or a manager in some way to him,
00:10:00I would be listening to this top five talk,
00:10:02you know, continuing, sticking to the plan.
00:10:04I'd want to see it change.
00:10:05I want to see Rory not mention top five.
00:10:08I want to hear him only talking about podiums and wins.
00:10:10When you talk about the top five,
00:10:12perhaps you're putting a ceiling on the package.
00:10:14The Ducati doesn't really have a ceiling.
00:10:16It's capable of winning and being on the podium everywhere,
00:10:19as is Rory.
00:10:20So, the adaptation's happened.
00:10:22I would now like to see Rory turn
00:10:23and think we make another step
00:10:25and we consistently fight for victory.
00:10:27I think you're dead right.
00:10:28I think that this will be a pivotal meeting for him.
00:10:30We've seen him go well at Knock Hill before
00:10:32and not go that well for the rest of the season
00:10:34because just of his age, really,
00:10:36and he's experiencing the Superbike class.
00:10:39But I think now he's got a kick on
00:10:40and I think he's got to make it count
00:10:42and I think he's got to look at podiums
00:10:43most weekends if things are going well.
00:10:45The most valid point made, I think, you know,
00:10:47at the end of the day,
00:10:48it's one thing going and winning your home race in the wet
00:10:50but getting some races done now,
00:10:51some podiums done in the dry.
00:10:52He's done the podiums in the dry
00:10:54but getting that first win in the dry now.
00:10:56Looks fantastic on that bike as well, doesn't he?
00:10:58Looks like he's made for the bike.
00:11:00Team have figured it out.
00:11:01Like Glenn said,
00:11:02the adaptation's been made from BMW to Ducati.
00:11:05Now it's a case of, like, kicking on.
00:11:07Right, let's try and win some races.
00:11:08A little bit more belief,
00:11:09you know, a little bit more deep belief
00:11:10and crack on from here.
00:11:11This weekend gives a great opportunity.
00:11:13The Ducati loves new tarmac.
00:11:15Brands has went through recent resurfacing.
00:11:17And I think if there's anyone to trouble Brad,
00:11:20I think it will come from Rory Skinner or Scott Redden.
00:11:23I do think he's a little bit of an under-promised
00:11:25and over-delivered kind of bloke.
00:11:27I think he's not sure of confidence, actually, Rory.
00:11:30I don't think so.
00:11:31Myself.
00:11:31We'll find out, won't we, very soon.
00:11:33But as Glenn and Shakey earlier mentioned,
00:11:36Scott Redden back in the fold again this weekend
00:11:39at Brands Hatch replacing Glenn.
00:11:41But for how long?
00:11:42We don't know at PBM.
00:11:44Scott, big news.
00:11:46You are confirmed that you'll be back in British Superbikes
00:11:49for the rest of the season.
00:11:50Amazing.
00:11:51Yes.
00:11:52An interesting week, should we say.
00:11:56After Donington, or during Donington,
00:11:59I explained to the team that, for me,
00:12:01we need to part ways in the right way
00:12:03because it's just not going as to what I expected.
00:12:06The season to go, like, give and take.
00:12:09And then this opportunity came about
00:12:11and it just felt like the right thing to do.
00:12:14And, you know, I had a good race at Donington as well,
00:12:16at World Superbikes.
00:12:17But I just still feel, like, in my heart,
00:12:20for me and my rest of my career and my future,
00:12:23this is where I need to be.
00:12:25Jordan, Glenn being injured,
00:12:27it looked like, what a nightmare for you,
00:12:29and obviously very disappointing,
00:12:30but amazing that you've managed to get Scott Redding to come in.
00:12:34Tell us about that.
00:12:35Yeah, I think as far as standing riders,
00:12:37we might have got a pretty good one there.
00:12:39Yeah, I mean, it's not at all how we saw the season going.
00:12:42We kind of put all our eggs in one basket with Glenn
00:12:44and, yeah, it hasn't gone to plan.
00:12:47So, strike quite quickly.
00:12:49And, yeah, the phone rang for Scott
00:12:51and he was very keen.
00:12:53I think the World Superbike programme
00:12:55hadn't gone quite how he anticipated.
00:12:57There were some difficulties, you know, on both sides.
00:13:00So, for him and for us, it's come at an ideal time.
00:13:03The priority is that Glenn's, you know,
00:13:05his recovery is coming on really, really well.
00:13:08Scott's, you know, defying all expectations.
00:13:11He's doing a super good job.
00:13:12So, yeah, we're looking forward to hitting the ground running here at Brands.
00:13:15We want to have Glenn back as soon as possible.
00:13:18And it looks like he's recovering very well.
00:13:20I do speak to him, actually, every other day
00:13:23and, like, kind of check in with him and he says about Brands
00:13:25and, like, the bike works good here, et cetera,
00:13:27and can't wait to share the garage with me.
00:13:29So, it's quite nice that we've got that, say, friendship.
00:13:32It also helps a little bit.
00:13:34But I'm not sure, really, on the future what's going to happen.
00:13:36I guess there's going to be two bikes here, hopefully.
00:13:39And, yeah, we can do some good racing.
00:13:41By the sounds of it, Glenn's going to be back much quicker
00:13:43than we anticipated.
00:13:44Fantastic.
00:13:44To start with, we did think it could be the remainder of the year.
00:13:48As the weeks and days are passing, it's coming closer and closer.
00:13:51So, yeah, there's going to be two red jucatties out there together.
00:13:55Yeah, I was ready to go back to the good old days, let's say,
00:13:58when my dad was around of two bikes running at the front.
00:14:01Yeah, and my brother and I were both ready to get back to that spot.
00:14:05So, the sooner Glenn comes back, the better.
00:14:07My goal this weekend, honestly, is to be fighting for podium.
00:14:10And, hopefully, if I can get my rhythm nice, then we can fight for victories.
00:14:16Because, Brands was not one of my easier tracks.
00:14:19Because it's still a BSB style of track.
00:14:21You know, you've got a lot of blind corners.
00:14:23I've heard it's been a bit resurfaced, like Paddock Hill Bend.
00:14:26Something you've got to get used to after riding at Donington Park.
00:14:29But if I just get some sessions where I can put laps in and know,
00:14:33like, oh, it's going to be dry, we can try this.
00:14:35You've got a couple of straights you can kind of relax on,
00:14:38which at Knock Hill, it just, I never even looked at the dashboard,
00:14:41letting them think about anything that was going on.
00:14:43So, take a little step back, find my rhythm,
00:14:46and then just build on it throughout the weekend.
00:14:48Well, listen, it's absolutely great to have you back.
00:14:50I know the crowds are going to love it.

00:15:10you know, at Knock Hill on his first weekend,
00:15:12and even on the run into here.
00:15:15Very different riders, very different riding styles,
00:15:17and to be able to have that data,
00:15:19you know, it's been from Tommy left the last time I had that,
00:15:22to see where he's better, to see where I'm better.
00:15:25Always open to learn, and yeah, he's a good lad.
00:15:27He's been the perfect initial building,
00:15:30and as it sounds like, maybe he's now here
00:15:33until the end of the year,
00:15:34and two PBM Ducatis back at the front.
00:15:36Knock Hill last time out, Shaky.
00:15:39He probably did what you would expect him to do,
00:15:42maybe no more, no less, really,
00:15:43but what do you make of his performance in qualifying earlier today?
00:15:47Qualifying, I thought, today was very good.
00:15:49Qualifying, he had a couple of digs as well.
00:15:51He went out in that last, you know,
00:15:53minute and a half or whatever,
00:15:54and had a go then as well.
00:15:55So, yeah, he's pushing.
00:15:56He's not just, he's not resting on his laurels.
00:15:58He's working hard.
00:15:59He's chipping away, and he's got big boots to feel.
00:16:01You know, this is Scott Redding.
00:16:02This is a MotoGP, you know, title contender in Moto2.
00:16:06You know, you forget some of the stuff that he's done,
00:16:08but, you know, the bar's been set by Glenn.
00:16:10You know, he does a great job in that team.
00:16:11He's won races, and, you know,
00:16:13Scott knows that nothing less than that is going to be enough.
00:16:16So, it'll be interesting to see how he gets stuck in today,
00:16:19whether or not he can go with Brad
00:16:20and sort of create a little bit of a battle for the lead
00:16:23and, you know, ultimately get that first win under his belt.
00:16:25That'll be good for him.
00:16:26But I'm looking forward to how it all pans out.
00:16:30I thought he did brilliant at Knock Hill.
00:16:31I thought it were difficult conditions,
00:16:33difficult circuit to come back to
00:16:34after having spent all that time on kind of flat
00:16:38and easily managed, not easily managed to go quick,
00:16:41but you know what I mean?
00:16:42Dead sort of...
00:16:42With electronics.
00:16:43With electronics, and I thought he did a great job at Knock Hill.
00:16:46I think he's doing a brilliant job here.
00:16:48I love the way he's dead honest about the circuit.
00:16:51So, I went for a walk around, and I won't be doing that again.
00:16:53These BSB circuits, but yet he'll still crack on
00:16:56and learn and go quick.
00:16:58But I'll tell you one thing.
00:16:59He would have thought that he could have come back here
00:17:00and been right at the sharp end.
00:17:02I don't think...
00:17:02I think one thing he's enjoying now,
00:17:04he admittedly said the level has went on a lot from 2019.
00:17:07In 2019, the Ducati was a stand-above bike.
00:17:10Now the level has come up from all other teams and riders,
00:17:13and I think he'll enjoy having to work that little bit harder
00:17:15for his next victor.
00:17:17OK, well, he's put himself in the right position
00:17:19to take that victory potentially here this afternoon.
00:17:22Here's what happened in qualifying a little bit earlier on today.
00:17:26It's very much a home round for Brad.
00:17:29Nine wins out of 11 so far this year,
00:17:32and he goes straight to P1.
00:17:3424-4-1-8.
00:17:35Unbelievable.
00:17:37Bradley Ray, last time you were here at Brad's Edge
00:17:39on the GP circuit,
00:17:40you claimed your first British Superbike Championship in 2022.
00:17:43You came out on top in that one.
00:17:45Four temps clear.
00:17:46How was it?
00:17:47Yeah, good.
00:17:47I actually...
00:17:48I've been working through a lot with the team
00:17:50with the feeling with the bike.
00:17:52I wasn't so confident and comfortable on the bike yesterday,
00:17:54but made a good step in this afternoon,
00:17:57and then this morning made a real good step with the bike,
00:17:59and I felt really good.
00:18:01So I knew I had to put in a good lap.
00:18:03I put a 24-8,
00:18:04but I wasn't expecting that to be enough,
00:18:07so I had to go again,
00:18:08and yeah, it just felt good.
00:18:10I've never had much good results
00:18:14around Brad's Apt in the past,
00:18:16so hopefully we can turn it around this weekend.
00:18:19Three champions across the front row.
00:18:20You're in the middle of them.
00:18:21How are you feeling?
00:18:22Yeah, good.
00:18:23I mean, a minute and 40 to go,
00:18:25little one-lap session,
00:18:26never ideal,
00:18:27and it was raining as well,
00:18:28so we're spitting.
00:18:29So we made the bike a lot better
00:18:31throughout this morning,
00:18:32and halfway through that qualifying session,
00:18:34did a 24-8 on lap eight of the tyres,
00:18:37so looking good for this afternoon.
00:18:38I'm very excited.

00:18:40you said to me earlier on,
00:18:42ahead of qualifying,
00:18:43that podiums and whatever else were the aim.
00:18:45Last time you were here at Brad's Hatch,
00:18:47you became British Superbike Champion.
00:18:48Now you're on the front row.
00:18:50We've two other champions.
00:18:51Yeah, that's the thing.
00:18:52Now in BSB,
00:18:53the level is high.
00:18:54There's a lot of talent out there,
00:18:56but for me,
00:18:56it's just keep learning,
00:18:57keep building,
00:18:58and put a new tyre.
00:18:59I've still got to find more.
00:19:01I was pushing in the quality there,
00:19:02lost the rear one or two times,
00:19:04and then with the used tyre,
00:19:05I seemed to improve a little bit,
00:19:06so I know there's more to come from me.
00:19:08We're changing a little bit on the bike,
00:19:10but these guys are pushing pretty hard,
00:19:12so I'm expecting a good race later on.
00:19:14We look forward to seeing that.

01:13:24hats off to him i was really surprised at that statistic i was remembering back to the the 2022
01:13:28season when they uh dominated trying to work out why he didn't win here and i can't really remember
01:13:33beginning of the season but i know that the final round he pretty much cruised on the saturday
01:13:37probably had a few beers saturday night and he actually had a big crash at turn one on sunday
01:13:41morning yeah um and he was a bit sort of i think he had done everything he needed to do
01:13:45yeah perhaps the other surprise here today james was that rory skinner wasn't closer to this fight
01:13:49than we expected him yeah really surprised he went off uh third row which wasn't ideal i just don't
01:13:55think he had the pace he got the start he definitely got the launch got with him had every chance to do
01:13:59that something a little bit around with the setup i think not just happy made quite a few mistakes got
01:14:04punted wide uh early on i think christian just slotted him wide a little bit and other people
01:14:09and made mistakes on his on his own ran really quite hot and lost a lot of time into places like
01:14:14druids and westfield so yeah i was surprised okay a few people with a bit of work to do overnight then
01:14:20here uh with race two and three still to come of course in bsb tomorrow still plenty of action here as well
