00:00Hello there.
00:01This weekend we have high pressure building to the south, but is it going to feel like
00:05summer has returned?
00:06Well, it's certainly not felt like summer this afternoon, has it?
00:10Plenty of heavy showers, some thundery downpours skirting their way north-eastwards across
00:14the country.
00:15Through this evening and overnight, we'll eventually say goodbye to most of those showers
00:18as high pressure begins to build across the south to a ridge, bringing mostly fine, dry,
00:23settled conditions.
00:24And this lasts through much of Friday too, we'll even see a return of the sunshine for
00:28many.
00:29In the north-west though, an area of low pressure just to the south of Iceland, we'll just
00:33skirt in some frontal systems by the end of the day.
00:36Some more clouds starting to push in, particularly across western parts of Scotland, perhaps
00:39even some light outbreaks of rain and some blustery winds too.
00:42But for the bulk of the country, it's going to be a dry, settled end of the week with some
00:46spells of sunshine.
00:47Is it going to last all weekend?
00:49Well, for that we need to take a look at what's happening across the Atlantic, where we currently
00:53have a fairly strong jet stream.
00:55It's split into two parts, a northern part and a southern part, and eventually we'll see
00:58this northern part of the jet stream merge into this southern area, fueling this area
01:03of low pressure, which is waiting in the wings.
01:05It's heading towards us more on Sunday rather than Saturday, where we've still got high
01:10pressure in the east clinging on.
01:11So that means many of us on Saturday are actually going to wake up once again to a dry and bright
01:16start.
01:17Some clear skies Friday night through into Saturday morning may just mean that some mist and fog
01:22may develop through the early hours, but it should clear away through dawn.
01:25And once again, with high pressure clinging on, it's going to be another dry, settled day.
01:29There may be some sunshine to start, but we'll eventually start to see cloudier skies push
01:33in from the west, mostly high cloud.
01:35So it just might mean that the sunshine will turn a little bit hazy.
01:38Some milky skies perhaps, particularly as we head our way towards the afternoon, but it
01:43should remain dry for the bulk of us.
01:45Now, the odd shower is possible, particularly across western Scotland, perhaps parts of
01:48Northern Ireland, but once again, they should be mostly isolated and it's going to be a
01:52fairly breezy day, particularly around coastal areas, which might just take the edge off the
01:56temperatures as well as the cloudier sky.
01:58So highs reaching around 23 degrees Celsius, moving into the high teens across the north, but
02:03always feeling that bit cooler in the breeze.
02:07Then once again, as you can see behind me, we do have some rain waiting in the wings.
02:11This air of low pressure that I pointed out earlier slowly shifting its way eastwards overnight
02:15Saturday through into the early hours of Sunday, still being fuelled by this relatively strong
02:21jet stream.
02:22So once again, as this pushes its way eastwards, we are going to start to see more rainfall as
02:26we head through Sunday.
02:28And for some areas, particularly across south and southeastern upslope areas, we'll start to
02:33see those totals begin to tot up.
02:35Eastern parts of Northern Ireland, also a little bit of a watch point, but around 20 to 40 millimetres
02:40possible, particularly where we see high ground areas, but the bulk of us are likely to see
02:45some rain on Sunday.
02:47To start though, it should be mostly dry, particularly across eastern areas, where once again, there
02:51could be some mist and fog to start the day, but we're really going to see those winds
02:55pick up through the course of the day as well.
02:58Not only this, but more cloud and heavy outbreaks of rain pushing their way eastwards.
03:02Now once again, we could see some quite heavy downpours, some blustery downpours associated
03:07with this frontal system as it sinks its way north eastwards, and there's a good chance
03:11we could see some thunderstorms too.
03:13So do keep an eye out for any rain or thunderstorm warnings as we head closer to Sunday.
03:18You can keep an eye on those across our website and our social media channels.
03:22And by the end of the day, it might just start to turn a little bit brighter across the far
03:26west, but still a risk here of seeing some blustery showers.
03:30Now what else you'll notice on Sunday is that with this area of low pressure to the west,
03:35we'd pick up a south-south, this easterly flow across much of the country, and we're actually
03:39picking up some warm air from continental Europe.
03:42So it is going to be cloudy, it's going to be wet, and you'll also notice it's going to
03:46be feeling a little warm and muggy.
03:48So fairly similar temperatures compared to Saturday.
03:50Highs reaching around 22 to 23 degrees Celsius, but it might just be that more uncomfortable, sticky
03:57feeling, particularly as we head towards the end of the day.
04:00So Saturday looking like the better day of the weekend.
04:02If you want to head out and about, and you need some dry weather for any outdoor activities,
04:07Sunday looks mostly unsettled.
04:08Still this area of low pressure swirling around to the west of us, and this continues through
04:13the early part of next week.
04:14Once again, being fuelled by a relatively strong jet stream, really adding to those areas of
04:19low pressure, just skirting their way in from the west.
04:21So as we head into next week, it does look like to remain changeable.
04:25Still some spells of rain and also some showers, potentially some strong winds too.
04:30So don't forget to stay subscribed so you don't miss any of our weather updates.
