00:00In essence from Felipe Massa is obviously a horrific escape or near escape anyway from when the spring hit him last year at the Hungara ring in Formula 1 and so now they're saying that carbon helmets are going to be safer and they're mandatory over here not yet in America but certainly in all the FIA and the Le Mans series in Europe they are and every driver out there whether he's in a GT car or in a prototype will be wearing a hands device or if he isn't he's got away with it and there are sharp-eyed eagled or sharp-eyed rather marshals down there who watch every driver change you have to
00:29sign a little piece of paper to say you're going to be going into the car they take your driver number and everything so I'm sure they'd have noticed if he wasn't wearing a hands device and certainly I know at least in America that the hands device has been in operation since 2003 they've been required so it's been around quite a long time actually and every year I've driven it in Le Mans I've had to have one so
00:47but Liz this one's for you I think from Shane it says do you think safety car rules should now be changed to one safety car at Le Mans after the debacle earlier on?
00:57in a word yes in my opinion because when there's one safety car you can just about manage it and actually plan your race strategy around it and I think it ends up being you know fairer for everybody but really we see that in so many other racetracks we've got one safety car and it works absolutely fine but the only reason they use more here is because it's such a long circuit but I don't think I've ever been here and not had it go wrong some way or another with multiple safety cars just somebody will always end up having their race go not quite the way they'd hoped so definitely I think it's going to be the best
01:27it would be worth a shot I think it would make everything a bit more fair I think it would eliminate a lot of the issues we have and have good clean racing
01:33um there's another one here from debut UK guys what's with the blue flashing light in the front wing screens Johnny
01:39I have no idea me neither in fact Carlton was asking us that just earlier and I haven't got a clue
01:47I know I think I can answer this in fact
01:48oh there you go see this is what he did he's going to make himself look good now go there Mark
01:52if you go to the NΓΌrburgring 24 hours most cars have these blue lights in the front screens
01:58and if you come up behind the slower car you can actually switch this on so you get a blue flash
02:04the car ahead is a way of trying to pass him
02:06they actually get it on their dash do they
02:08yeah so you can actually activate lights on his dash
02:11no on your dash so he sees in his mirrors that you've got a blue flashing light
02:15he thinks you're going to breathalyze him
02:17well surely just the fact that every single faster car has got a button than usually that you push that
02:23flashes the very big headlights you have would be better than a blue little flashing light and a dash
02:27I mean they must know he's coming so I can't quite work that one out
02:31white flashing lights is usually a giveaway
02:33the Mervgring 24 hours that's definitely the system I've been there enough to see that
02:37so anyway let's get on with the racing
02:39we've just heard that Danny Watts still leading LMP2
02:43Lawrence Tomlinson singing his praises when he was driving him
02:45Danny has done such a good job
02:47I mean he's taken the fight to the team that developed the HPT car
02:51that's Highcroft Racing
02:53and they at the moment have a lap in hand
02:55and Danny is on board that car at the moment
02:57yeah he's doing a very good job
02:59I mean obviously Danny is a fantastic professional driver
03:01but then also Johnny Kane started that car in the race and did a fantastic double stint
03:05and got it out in front and really broke David Brabham's kind of initial fight
03:10because initially they were quite close together for the first sort of few laps
03:13and then Brabs dropped back a little bit
03:15and then I noticed that Marino was also struggling quite a bit to keep the same pace as
03:19as Johnny Kane was at the end of his and also in the early part of Danny Watts' stint
03:23and now looking with Marco Werner in the car
03:25although they're still sort of maintaining a similar sort of gap to them in front
03:29they're still lapping on average about one and a half to two seconds a lap slower
03:33so I think this is all going to really boil down to Nick Leventis
03:36and obviously what he can do in this car
03:38and I think Nick obviously owns the team, runs the team, is also a driver in the team
03:43and very much on a steep learning curve here at Le Mans
03:47and certainly in this kind of car
03:48and it'll be interesting to see if he can handle this kind of pressure
03:51and I hope for his sake he does because he's a lovely chap
03:53and we need more people like that out here
03:55but I know he's feeling the pressure right now
03:57because he's going to get into a leading LMP2 car
04:00with all the eyes of the world
04:02the eyes of the world
04:04there's a problem
04:05yeah exactly
04:06it's the BMW
04:07it's in more bother here
04:10yeah no I think that car's had a lot of problems earlier
04:13so they had something break in the rear of the car I believe earlier on
04:16we saw the driver leaning underneath the car off the second chicane I believe
04:21or first chicane I believe it was
04:22they pitted the car, put it in the garage and they have fixed it
04:25but now it looks like there are more problems
04:27so we don't really know what's maybe started off
04:29and has now become a bigger problem
04:31well apparently it was a puncture that actually turned into a bigger issue
04:35after they smacked into one of the kerbs here
04:38there are something called a banana feature as well
04:41which I think the driver was talking about
04:43just beyond the kerbs
04:44it's a kind of a little riser
04:46a guider if you like
04:47it's actually a very large curvy guider thing that you don't want to run over
04:50exactly
04:51I think they hit that and did some damage underneath
04:53I'm just hoping it hasn't kind of come back to haunt them this one
04:56that will rip the bottom of the car out either
04:58and they've done that like at Tetra Rouge
05:00they've done it you know
05:01they've done it deliberately to try and stop people like on a qualifying lap
05:04just completely cutting the inside of the corner and gaining like a second a lap
05:07but unfortunately what they haven't allowed for
05:09in I wouldn't say a typical ACO fashion because that's slightly unfair
05:13but they haven't allowed for genuine problems to occur to a car
05:16where they need runoff
05:17and obviously it can still damage the car
05:19and turn a small problem into a big one
05:21looking a little bit happier Sebastian Bordeaux
05:24I'm not quite at the moment but while he's on screen
05:26he was absolutely distraught in the arms of his team mates this
05:31and it's nice to see him looking at
05:33oh gosh he's going to burst into tears
05:35he's being reminded I think simply at this moment
05:38it's perhaps what you don't need
05:39he probably isn't any happier
05:40he's just trying to put a good face on
05:42and be the professional that we all know that he is
05:44but it is horrible to have your car go out
05:46especially early on in a race
05:48and the last thing you want to do is even be there anymore
05:50I have to be honest
05:51watch the cars out
05:52it's just painful to even be there in the race
05:54and coming back and into the action here
05:56this we've got the spiker at long last now
05:59a big big tussle with Peter Dunbrecht
06:01not sure whether he's on board
06:03he's going to spin through an awful lot of timing speed
06:05and unfortunately our back end timing speed is missing
06:07he just won't tune in
06:09but nonetheless big big troubles for that team
06:12they haven't been running overly competitively have they
06:14and then all of a sudden it goes from bad to worse
06:17yeah I know they have a lot of problems
06:18they had sort of one after another
06:20unfortunately I think Peter had a small collision with somebody
06:23and went off the circuit
06:24and then he was trying to rejoin
06:25and ended up being collected by the Norma
06:27as it was coming round as well
06:28which then did a lot of damage to that car
06:30it's been in the garage for a long time now
06:32and I'm really pleased they've got it back out
06:34and I hope for their sake
06:35that they've got it put together
06:36because it would be great to have the spiker finish
06:38I think so
06:39people are very very divided as to whether it's a nice to be car or not
06:43I don't say I rather like it
06:44and always have done
06:45I like it too
06:46yeah I used to have big punch-ups with John Leslie there
06:48sorry David doesn't make a problem
06:51and who's sadly no longer with us
06:54and David absolutely did not like the car
06:57didn't like the configuration on it
06:59especially in its early form
07:00I think they've kind of polished it a little bit
07:02now then
07:03you have to hand it to them
07:05they've been at Le Mans pretty much every year
07:07and initially they had that sort of strange
07:10didn't they aluminium look
07:11or steel look or whatever it was
07:12and I just think that you've got to hand it to them
07:15every year they've been here with at least one car
07:17and quite often with two
07:18so they've been a very good supporter of the Le Mans
07:2024 hours as well as the Le Mans series itself
07:22quality driver line-up as well
07:23absolutely
07:24always professional drivers
07:25yes
07:26very very much so
07:27so clearly there is money behind that effort
07:31as the racing lizards just get back and on course
07:36they've had been blowing hot and cold here over the last couple of seasons
07:40two DNFs in 07 and 09
07:42but success in other years
07:45always always Liz
07:46a mighty team as well to watch out
07:48they are
07:49they've been such a strong team in the American Le Mans series
07:51for absolutely years
07:52as long as I've known the American Le Mans series
07:54and they seem to just not have had the best luck here at Le Mans lately
07:58and I'd really like this race to come to them to be honest
08:00I think I think they work hard
08:02and Seth Neiman team owner
08:03he's always in the car
08:05and because he loves it
08:06he loves the sport
08:07and he loves to be here
08:08and it'd be nice for all of them to have a good finish for you
08:11it's an awful long way around for this rather attractive looking vehicle
08:14I actually quite like it
08:15it might describe it as an explosion in a paint shop
08:18apparently supposed to represent the dying embers of a firework
08:22pretty close
08:23it's pretty close to their situation at the moment isn't it
08:27dearie me
08:28that's called getting a little bit wrong
08:29and just look at the amount of debris
08:31all these marbles that are coming back off the course
08:34a lot of gravel as well
08:36and that is very sharp in this part of the world
08:39sorry to keep reminding you of it
08:40but it does cause crutches
08:41and has done throughout the week here
08:44everyone giving a very very wide berth
08:47apart from the P1
08:48who are coming through thick and fast here
08:50Matt on the sheet getting very very nice
08:52we'll take a break
08:55join us and it doesn't look good does it
08:57no not for the seventh car
08:58Tom Christensen is on board
09:00and ah
09:01he just came round
09:03this little secret to messes here
09:05and almost got into the back of the art car
09:07that's safely away
09:08didn't hit him
09:09er
09:10avoided tactics
09:11it meant that Tom has ended up in the gravel here
09:14erm
09:15Johnny talk us through this one
09:16I mean it was a difficult one
09:18I mean Andy Priot is in the BMW
09:20as we've been seeing
09:21he's been crawling back to the pits
09:23and er
09:24it's so unfortunate
09:25because he was on the right hand side
09:27going into the Porsche curves
09:28I think he was aware that the cars were coming behind him
09:31it's very difficult
09:32especially when you're going quickly
09:33to actually judge how quickly these
09:34er
09:35slowly rather
09:36how quickly these prototypes are catching you
09:37and what he did was
09:38he went from the right to the left of the track
09:40to obviously give the cars coming behind
09:42the correct line through the Porsche curves
09:43so they could take the apex
09:44and lose no time whatsoever
09:46Tom Christensen was coming in
09:48turning in
09:49saw the BMW moving across the line
09:51and was still thinking
09:52right I'll go round the outside of him
09:53I'll go round the outside of him
09:54at that point
09:55you can't then tighten up
09:56and go down the inside of him
09:57because the entry to the Porsche curves
09:59there's a slight bump on turn in
10:01and you're carrying so much speed in there
10:02if you try and tighten it up
10:03you're going to spin the car
10:04watch the bump
10:05so you can just see there
10:06I mean at that point
10:07it looks stupid
10:08it looks like basically
10:09he should have just tightened up onto his right
10:10but he already had the left hand wheels
10:11on the blue
10:12on the outside of the kerb
10:13so
10:14it's so unfortunate
10:16but it is literally
10:17just one of those things
10:18where Andy Priya
10:19was trying to do the right thing
10:20but obviously in retrospect
10:21should have just stayed to the right
10:22and Tom Christensen
10:24misjudging the fact
10:25that Andy was trying to get out of his way
10:27by going fully to the left hand side of the circuit
10:29and wasn't expecting that either
10:31so just really unlucky
10:33and it's such a high speed corner
10:35that entry to the Porsche curves
10:36you know it's 5th gear
10:37in most prototypes
10:39so he would have been really going quickly
10:41and probably not himself even been able to judge
10:43how slow Andy was actually going
10:45you know there just isn't enough time to change your mind
10:47but the only thing I would say
10:49and I'm not in any way
10:50who am I to ever say anything against Tom Christensen
10:53a great time Le Mans winner
10:55but the only thing I would say
10:56is that the white flags were waving
10:57and in evidence
10:58but I could see what he was thinking
10:59he was turning in and thinking
11:00this car is just going to be staying
11:01in the middle of the track
11:02all the way through
11:03I'm going to go around the outside of him
11:04and in a way that worked for the first time
11:06in that two professional drivers
11:08one trying to do the right thing
11:09for the guy behind
11:10and the guy behind
11:11thinking perhaps
11:12that the guy wasn't a professional driver
11:13wasn't going to do the right thing for him
11:15and it's just so unfortunate
11:17I know both of them very well
11:18in particular Andy Prio
11:19and I know the last thing Andy would ever want
11:21is to compromise the race of the lead Audi
11:23and just a crying shame
11:25and my heart goes out to Dindo and Alan
11:27as well as Tom and the whole Audi team
11:29because obviously they've now lost
11:30in one of their strongest challenges
11:32if there is any chance of winning this race
11:34that one of them is out of it
11:35well here comes Wolfgang Ulrich
11:38on his way down undoubtedly to Andy Prio's pit
11:40he does not look happy at all
11:42this is going to be a difficult situation
11:44because like you said Johnny
11:45they are both professional top drivers
11:47the car number seven has rejoined
11:49it's on its way back to the pits
11:50but this is going to lose Audi
11:51really valuable time isn't it?
11:53yeah I mean I'm surprised that Dr. Ulrich
11:56is going down there at this moment in time
11:58but obviously Charlie Lamb there
12:00you're going to see him talking to him
12:01and they know each other from old
12:03they're obviously good friends
12:04and right now Dr. Ulrich is very very annoyed
12:07and I can understand why he is
12:09but I genuinely there was no deliberate
12:11anything deliberately wrong in that
12:13Charlie's obviously not going to say anything
12:15you know it's not his place
12:16he needs to dissipate it
12:17but so unfortunate
12:18the Audi's a bullet proof
12:20he's coming in pit lane right now
12:21they'll put a new rear wing on it
12:22he'll be back out in the race
12:24they're not out of it yet
12:25but they've lost a lot more time
12:26I think this is one of those situations
12:28when you have to just say
12:29that's racing
12:30these sort of things happen sometimes
12:32it's very difficult when
12:33you have a slow moving car on track
12:34and I suppose both teams are going to have to do their best
12:36to get both cars back in action
12:38yeah I would say that
12:39but you don't change lanes at the entry to the Porsche corners
12:42I have to say
12:43it's a great thing you don't do
12:44I absolutely agree
12:45it's a tough call
12:47and my heart goes out to both Andy and Tom
12:49Justine is about to catch up with Dr. Wolfgang
12:51Ulrich we'll catch
12:52see what he's got to say in a minute
12:53but unusual for him to lose his cool like that
12:56it's not as if Christensen's out of the race
12:58it's compromised though with race yes
12:59but he's going to get that car back
13:01it's still Peugeot 1, 2, 3
13:03Audi 4 and 5
13:05and all this has been to the benefit of Adrian Fernandez
13:08Fernandez on board the Aston Martin Lola
13:10number 007 car
13:12that's moved up into 6th place
13:13closing up on the finishing place of last year Liz
13:16yeah and Adrian Fernandez doing such a stellar job in this car
13:20he's just in at 3 minutes 27
13:22which is a really good time at the moment
13:24Adrian is such a nice man
13:25and has brought low sponsorship to this team
13:27and just fantastic to see him in a big car here at Le Mans
13:31and doing such a good job
13:32Sam Hancock on board the other Lola Aston Martin
13:34that's about to become 7th as well
13:36so those two cars moving up the order very quickly
13:39Sam Hancock getting his really big break this here at Le Mans
13:42I was at Monza in 2003 was it when he won the Monza 1000 km
13:47in the Gianni Lavaggi Ferrari Gianni
13:50and that was a car to come to the 333 SP Gianni
13:53and that's really the last time I saw Sam in competitive action
13:56well I actually shared my first Le Mans car with Sam
13:59and he was so lovely and he taught me so much
14:01and actually taught me how to drive a prototype around Le Mans
14:04so I have a strong place in my heart for Sam
14:07I think he's a lovely guy
14:08and I'm really thrilled from down this break
14:10and he's been doing such a solid job in this car
14:12so I'd love to see them keep moving up the order
14:14and of course he also runs Drivers Club
14:16giving people a chance to do track days etc
14:18so good luck to that
14:19right let's just quickly check down in 13th
14:21and it's Danny Watts that's going to be come 12 in a minute
14:24because Christensen is still tumbling down the order
14:27and he has got still a lap in hand over Marco Werner
14:32in the Highcroft HPD car
14:34moving on down to GT1
14:37we have at the moment Roman Grisham
14:40still there in the number 60 car
14:42the Ford
14:43that's the car he crashed on Wednesday night
14:45and Manually Collard in the Corvette
14:48one of the factory Corvettes
14:50the 64 car
14:51those two cars at the moment split
14:53the Antonio Garcia Corvette
14:55and Collard's Corvette split by Pierre Caffer
14:59well joining us in the studio
15:00of course the voice of Motor GP
15:02so we're just going to first of all
15:04see Sebastian Bourdain
15:05in action
15:06still red-eyed
15:07from his crying session earlier
15:15the car
15:39well I'm sorry about that
15:40I think Sebastian Bourdain is actually being interviewed on one of our other channels
15:44of our other channels at the moment and i think the influence as well so that's a real shame but
15:48he actually does uh look rather uh red-eyed and uh well as you as you've already seen anyway back to
15:58so well into our five now here at le mans and uh looking at all the action here put all the
16:04blue flags there being flown for the oreca car blocking one of its sister factory cars at the
16:10moment as we just said before then uh toby moody the voice of moto gp welcome back to your sport you
16:16had joined us last year in the studio here how's it all going from your point it's great it's great
16:21i'm sorry that i came out of the country box and it all seemed to go wrong for the number seven
16:24addy but it's marked great to see that it's back out on track it just shows you uh the the uh the
16:29efficiency that they've done down there and they got uh they got the thing sorted pretty quickly and
16:33a shame that uh andy prio got caught up in that accident that involved tom christensen to go off
16:38at the portico's but you know he's a four-time three-time world champion once european touring
16:43car champion so it's just luck of the draw wasn't it as you said johnny it's uh the way that it is
16:48but you got a feel for baudet after that uh he didn't even get in the car did he he didn't even
16:53get in the car before day so it all fell through his hands like pole position most of le mans turned
16:59out this weekend to see their local boy and he never even got to drive you see and you see nick
17:03leventis then getting into the uh striker acura and this is going to be nick's first double stint i've
17:08been told that johnny kane and danny watts are going to be doing triple stints and that uh nick's only
17:12going to be doing doubles but even so a double stint in that accurate he's out on track for the first
17:16time in this le mans 24 hours he's got a one lap lead at the moment over marco verna because that's
17:23the leventis star that's the fifth pit stop verna's got to make another one soon that will close the
17:29gap again in fact there he is there is verna going down the track interesting that the uh the hpd
17:34car came on screen there um there's some guys that i was standing next to during the week uh in the
17:40build up to here and they were should we say having a fear and should we say that they were
17:45that their voices were getting louder but their voices were ah we'd not come to to le mans with
17:51honda shirts we come for look and there's also being serious there's also some very high up japanese
17:57people who've come from tte the former tow to formula one team were having a look around this paddock as
18:01well so there's there's all sorts of stuff that we might see not only in this current golden age guys
18:06of this of this fantastic motor race between audi and and peugeot but if we get the japanese returning
18:12to le mans like we saw with the historic group c race you know the the memories for us all there
18:16earlier today mark and johnny i mean you know we'll just evolution move on into another era well
18:22absolutely and don't forget that toyota actually were what brought allen actually his opportunity to
18:28go into formula one finally with them because he was a stalwart in their sports car program when they
18:33were here before and as was martin brudel and uh that's what kind of led him into that fold and
18:38allowed him to actually become initially their formula one test driver and then into formula one so i'd love
18:42nothing better than see someone like to go to come back to sports cars yeah and then also in the wings
18:47mclaren were there going on straight on nick going straight on and goading the porsche with him
18:55supposed to have got his accents out of the way on wednesday but anyway that's all right if you're
19:00going to break there it's easy you know the tires are still slightly cold if you're going to lose it
19:04under braking there it's much better to abort and go straight than it is to try and make don't do it
19:08next time mark we just saw dr wolfgang or it go down to see charlie lamb of bmw you don't see that
19:15kind of thing nowadays in this corporate world i mean you've been involved for however many years
19:19that is that the pressure really beginning to boil over down there from ingolstadt down there and
19:24taking it out on munich it is i mean i've never i've never seen wolfgang already lose his rag in
19:30that way he's calculating the cold but once he got the charlie lamb he really did lose it a bit
19:34didn't he gave a good good wigging as you say i'm sure we'll hear more about that toby let's go
19:39change the subject for one moment um moto gp of course everyone wondering what's going to happen
19:44with valentino rossi well mark we were here three weekends ago for the french grand prix and last
19:50weekend in mogello we obviously crashed he he had a terrible terrible injury to his uh to his right
19:55leg but they've uh they've taken him home already all the operations have gone well after he's been
20:00in the hospital in florence and hopefully he's going to be okay he had a he had a a q a that was
20:06published yesterday and he said well maybe i'll come back in bruno which is a race that happens in
20:11about mid-august mark or late august and he said well maybe i might not come back at all because as he
20:15quite rightly says it's not just a physical thing you've got to be right in your head now mick
20:19doing one five world championships on a 500 cc evil bike having had a similar kind of injury
20:27and look at mark webber he's leading the formula one world championship and only 18 months ago he
20:31had exactly the same injury that valentino was just getting back on as well yes he didn't win
20:36a championship once he got back on i don't know what you mean but mark webber has really come
20:40come back from from nowhere and that's great to see so but the difference with mick was he was younger
20:45and he hadn't won a championship and he maybe wasn't as rich down at the bank whereas some other
20:52people they uh you know valentino might be uh might might think about it for a bit but he's not going
20:58to leave on a stretcher is he mark valentino rossi will come back and he will win some more races and
21:02that's great to hear that's great to great great great to hopefully see we're going to take ourselves a
21:08commercial break and we'll leave the uh question hanging in the air as to whether valentino might
21:12one day perhaps we will take that break obviously yeah eight car in the hands of uh lottero just
21:22pitting off uh p5 at the moment uh just uh the second place adi behind roman dumas uh we left something
21:30a question hanging in the air there and uh telling us desperate to answer uh okay will valentino ever
21:36drive for ducati i know so many people would love to see it and it kind of has this poetic thing about
21:41the end of end of the career what a way to go if you could make that uh that bike sing well whether
21:46or not he'll uh you know he'll ride for ducati is it a matter personally i think that he he might just
21:52do it some inside the factory say that he won't some say that he will only he knows i think that the
21:58package that he's got at the moment is very good and i think that actually uh i think he he will he
22:04will stop riding moto gp on the yamaha i don't believe i've never ever believed any of this stuff
22:09that rossi will go to formula one and don't forget guys that it was john lacy who started off the
22:14conversation in the winter saying well maybe he'll come and drive le mans with me this year instead john
22:20lacy has got fishy in with him but i actually believe that the relationship that valentino rossi has with
22:26the ferrari factory will see him not in a formula one car competitively he might do some tests and
22:31such like but i believe that he will go endurance racing such as we have here with a gt1 or gt2 car
22:36and moreover don't forget that fiat are in the international rally challenge with their cars
22:41something else he's very keen on it's very keen on and with the rules changing and with stuff that's
22:46going to move around and with new models coming forward it'll be very interesting to see
22:49that is personally where i think that valentino rossi will be he'll be le mans endurance stuff or he'll
22:55go irc there you are you had it uh toby moody dropping in to to say hello he's looking very
23:01tan very fit very lovely uh almost embarrassing embarrassingly chipper i know it's terrible he
23:07hasn't got 20 hours left that's why he's looking so that's what it is that's what it is thanks to toby
23:13um roman gunshot and the 60 ford uh leading uh gt1 but at a bit of a bouncy moment out there clattered
23:20the underside other cars have suffered big time he seems to have got away with it johnny yeah he did
23:24and he banged uh he actually blew the uh outbreak himself going into the second chicane blew the uh
23:29inside apex went off uh hit the little plastic pylons there there and then very nicely scooped one up
23:35into the air and landed it right in the path of the uh drace and lola that was arriving at speed so that
23:40walloped into the front right of his splitter i don't think it did any aerodynamic damage but you
23:45know it could quite easily have thrown taken one of the dive planes off and then obviously that car
23:49would have been suffering with a reduction in front downforce but uh yeah that car seems to be a
23:54little bit in the wars today yeah the curbs are really taking prisoners today liz it just seems that
23:59if you don't give them enough respect here it could well just hobble you challenge well yeah we've seen
24:04that happen already to the you know the dracing car there and also to the uh the bmw that we saw that
24:10went over the curves and then onto the banana strips which are hugely damaging and did the underfloor
24:16uh underfloor of the car but talking about the dracing car they they were in the garage for a long time
24:20more miles back all the way down to the bottom and then when emmanuele piero got into that car he
24:25absolutely has peddled it back onto the front page of our timing which i have to say is very impressive
24:30did lap after lap in its best times that the car has done all weekend and emmanuele of course the
24:36driver that was uh that has been here for the most amount of years of anybody here at the moment he
24:40first did the limo 24 hours as a 19 year old and i believe 1981 which is pretty cool and here he is
24:46you know seemingly having retired a couple years ago but back enjoying lmp1 which is just fantastic to
24:52see and i haven't seen him with such a big smile on his face in years and we thought stewie hall was young
24:56when he uh when he started pedaling that car around uh johnny it's uh it's been a difficult day i'm
25:02just hoping that uh for looking at the 60 car now it looks to be reasonably well set yes i mean
25:09considering the some of the issues that they had early on i mean it's it's still going well it's
25:13pushing it as hard as they can they're obviously leading uh leading the lm gt1 class at the moment
25:18roman grojan is in the car he's a class driver as you'll remember he was uh obviously involved in formula
25:24one last year with renault and uh he's a fantastic driver and he's adapted especially in the fia gt's
25:30incredibly quickly to these kind of cars which actually is in no small way an indication of his
25:35talent because i can tell you when you're going from something like a single seat to especially
25:38like a formula one car with an incredibly amount downforce and nimbleness of brake and turning to
25:44get into one of these gt1 cars i mean they are real beasts to drive and i drove one for three seasons
25:49and they are hard cars to drive because you've got a combination of mechanical grip and aero grip and
25:54the things just bounce through the corners and you really know when you're on it in one of those
25:57things so it's really going to break my heart to see them go to be honest uh i i love the gt ones
26:01i think they're an absolute uh delight to watch and and just as um the field is um starting to just
26:09regain its confidence looks like a bit of a loose back end there we uh once again see one of the ford gt's
26:15here just passing by the cylinders yeah they are they are fantastic cars to drive and very very
26:20tricky difficult cars especially around a circuit like this they have so much power but a lot of
26:24them can be very loose in a high-speed corner and i know these particular cars have had a few problems
26:29throughout the season a lot of the ones that have been running in the world gt1 series i believe had a
26:34an ecu issue where they were they were issued a single ecu for all the cars and tons of them have
26:39been having huge problems so i'm actually pleased to see that most of them are still running and have been
26:44for the most part all right-ish i guess it's fair enough to say but most of their issues have been
26:48accident related they've not all been ecu so we were there was some some train of thought and
26:53some worry from various people that were thinking perhaps they would just start falling by the way
26:57side after about an hour but so far that doesn't seem to be the case carlton uh no just looking uh
27:01we've got scott tucker on board the 14 car just uh brought in by christoph uh albers who's been doing
27:07some some great work um yes uh could you can of course uh fell off uh the uh the pit wall for this
27:14crew and uh damaged his shoulder so they've had their sort of alternative parts of bad luck in the
27:20past but uh bringing two cars here uh racing the r10s which to me strangely kind of look a little bit
27:26more of that than the r15 plus i think the r15 plus looks uh like some some uh design kid got hold
27:32of it and decided to mix it with a a wild boar or something along that nature uh you've got a vivid
27:38imagination that's clearly why i'm here it's obviously what we all would have initially thought of you
27:43know naturally from uh the j-lot outfit now this lot uh we're in a bit of shame last year they they
27:50they did hardly anything i think they did one lap and went home and uh if it hadn't been for some
27:55decent results in japan they may not actually be here at all i think they automatically qualified to
28:00come here i think if it'd been down to an invitation oh keep it steady if it come down to an invitation
28:06they probably wouldn't have been invited after the shenanigans of last year certainly a lot of people
28:10were a bit angry about them being invited back there were a lot of teams that felt there were others that
28:14deserved it or you know other other teams that had worked harder and hadn't had such a disastrous
28:19year like they did last year and i have to say i sort of agreed as well but they are still running
28:24now they've had a much better season this year so far they did earn their place here so i suppose we
28:28have to give them a chance don't we johnny yeah absolutely and and one thing that you have to
28:32remember as well is that the aco likes lemon to represent pretty much every major car manufacturer in
28:40the world and obviously lamborghini feature amongst those and so it's also very important for them and
28:45they and they take that into account when they're making their invitations to try and get as much a
28:48balance as they can across all the various manufacturers because if they just took the
28:52best teams and the fastest teams you'd probably end up with uh almost a two or three make series
28:57in the pit lane so uh i agree with you it's nice to see a lamborghini out there and i know that some of
29:01my guests that are here actually spent a long time in front of the garage looking at the lamborghini just
29:05simply because they they own the road car and so they find it of interest regardless whether it's quick
29:09or slow absolutely it is of course a new version of that lamborghini as well this year which i think is
29:14proving to be more reliable and definitely doing the job much more than we've seen in the past i
29:19don't think i've ever seen the lamborghini be competitive here i've seen it be competitive in
29:23the gt1 series and in various other series been very good very quick but certainly not here before
29:28so it's nice to see them still running with really relatively small amounts yeah i think been a big
29:32surprise to everybody that hasn't let's just have a quick look at what's going on at the top of the
29:35field it's still peugeot one two three alex vert has just taken over the number one car the car in which he won
29:42last year of course nick manassian in the number two car and wat dubal in the number four car the
29:48three car longed on if you're joining us pedrolami had a blowout on the mulsanne straight which then
29:54turned into worse matters he in my view and view of many tried to push that car too hard coming back and
30:01broke the front suspension it went through the chassis uh out the monocoque and that was it audi second uh
30:08sorry audi fourth and fifth and the other audi of tom christensen rejoining in eighth after a
30:14controversial coming together or near coming together between tom christensen and andy prio two
30:19world champions uh getting into each other just a couple of bits of news from the pits uh earlier
30:25on you might remember peter dumbrek got involved in a fairly hefty accident with the 38 norma
30:30he was creeping back to the pits after an off at indy the normal was then hit by an audi then hit
30:34dunbrek and both those cars are badly damaged only in the last couple of minutes has to get that
30:41spiker back into the race he's a long way down the order but at least they've got it repaired
30:46and they are still running the matek uh girls in the matek ford we believe they have got the car back
30:52out now we're just trying to find it but they spent a lot of time in the pits so liz assures me that they
30:56are still running list yeah they are still running i'm not entirely sure what happened to them i just know
31:01they were in pit lane for a long time and then when they did rejoin we saw something come up on the
31:05screen saying they had no front headlights which in this series you do have to run with front
31:09headlights it is one of the requirements even if you have one missing you do have to come back to
31:12the pits and have it fixed so they do appear to have that sorted and they are running again but
31:18definitely way down the order but i have to say i was very impressed with their early on times and
31:23cindy allemand was doing very impressive times only a couple seconds off the others in the class and they
31:27had been running in fourth and even third place for a period of time so you know i was pleased to
31:31see that and i'm sorry they've had the problems but hopefully they're going to keep it running and
31:35keep it going to the finish i've been interested to follow cindy allemand's career she's in formula
31:39bmw and then i saw her racing in the german formula three championship four or five years ago and uh
31:44good to see she's finally made it natasha gashnang and uh rail frey here to le mans the 23rd
31:50all-girl crew just to remind everybody since 1930 and some of those crews great names people like k peter
31:57le la lombardi uh lindsay james kathy molle de zero wilson they were the last ones and that pink car
32:03they raced here in 1991 that was racing again here today in the group c race that was uh brought back
32:09a lot of memories that pink spice for a lot of people it was it was nice to see that racing again
32:13with richard bateman behind the wheel and someone who i know myself who's friends with my father when he
32:17was still racing and so it was very exciting to see that car again right good just a quick update
32:22beforehand to carlton young driver aston martin uh is just about out now again it broke a left-hand
32:28drive shaft which is why they lost the class lead tumbled down the order and i think at this very
32:33moment let's just check where it is um it's fallen off the out of the top eight hasn't it so i think
32:40that's in the hands at the moment of thomas enga and the seventh car is in the hands of dindo capello
32:46unfortunately for them it's about uh what two and a half laps down on alexander verts
32:52and uh the lead peugeot our lead car uh wearing the number one there's a man who uh i think he was
32:57saying a little bit earlier got very animated got very upset with bmw had stalked down the pit lane
33:02i have actually seen him angry previously it was in dtm and getting very very annoyed as well uh
33:09with norbert haugert mercedes well of course um he's also going to have to have a driver's debriefing
33:14about alex premat after this race because as you know alex took three of the out is out including his
33:19own at the last ring last sunday at the dtm apparently he's been told you you have to report to see
33:26dr ulrich after yes talk about standing on the naughty step um he's gonna stand you want to
33:34upset no no absolutely not uh he's gonna have some serious explanation to do and if he doesn't come
33:40up to scratch i think that could be cousins we'll see here is the girly car here it is there i'm not
33:46sure that's pc i don't think so either anyway um we are seeing this car and it does look like they're
33:51about to wheel it back into the pits which is uh not not a good thing so unfortunately i really don't
33:57know what happened to it earlier but they did have a big problem they were in the garage for the sister
34:01car was that pc as well so yeah that might be all right that might be acceptable i think but yes that's
34:06the number 60 car and that car i believe has had some problems as well but is um back up and running
34:12it seems and um doing all right at the moment listen i once got uh told off for for calling a ladies car
34:18yes it's a it's a woman team and a female team and that's it that is that that's all right we'll
34:23let you off thank you very much by the way the bass liners car we saw heavily shunted earlier on today
34:29the essence that has now been officially retired mark they've had trouble with their tub uh earlier
34:34on with they've had tub repairs uh throughout this weekend and they're looking long and hard underneath
34:39driver's still in the car which is uh something of a uh of a plus point here but that is not what we
34:46need to see no this is never a great feeling you know i've been there before where you're you're
34:50still in the car you're strapped in you're inside the carriage sitting there up on the jacks thinking
34:55god i hope i don't have to get out i hope it's going to be a little repair i hope it's not my fault
34:59yeah well yeah but i mean i think in this in this case like you said the car's had a lot of problems
35:03already they've had to do some tub repairs so i think it's very possible it could be relating to that
35:08yeah mr fifa's in the bmw way down the order i think they expected an awful lot more particularly on
35:13their pace during their qualification and mark they're what about the eighth in class something
35:18like that it's it's been a rough ride for bmw and you saw the art car in the hands of andy
35:23andy prio as well really getting bullied out there yeah it seems to be the karts having all the bad
35:27luck doesn't it this year used to mention about the rebellion tubs of course the big rescue drama
35:33by lola for both of those teams they had to fly parts out from huntington got here as well didn't
35:38they do well we're going for a break we'll be back after this hopefully this rebellion doesn't break
35:42we'll be back live on nearest ford from le mans
35:47check this out go for a ride get skyward no tickets required unbelievable that was the first bounce it
35:54wasn't even over then uh had to come back over the next uh few curbs because it was in uh the middle
36:01of the chicane and unfortunately on the wrong side of it had to go over a bump to get there
36:05relevant uh racing must be absolutely wondering where on earth what on earth what on earth part
36:11of this course they're not going to hit and uh they've actually got the 12 car in there the 13 car
36:16it's looking all right but i think they might even bring that in for a check out here i'll tell you
36:19who's got a big smile on his face about all this martin borain of lola cars he's here in the paddock in
36:24fact he's going to come and join us this evening have a chat about next year's regulations but i
36:28mean he's watching all these loaders having problems and that's just so good for business
36:33i suppose he did that i never really thought of that i think he probably wants them to do well
36:37rather than have to buy it keep them going now what what i've just noticed is it looked like
36:41rebellion racing was standing there ready for this car to do a pit stop and it's just gone past the pits
36:46he's clearly okay um so but you know they're going to have radios so i'm not really sure what's
36:51happened there um i think they were ready in case he needed a late call basically he went over there
36:56thought the car feels terrible he probably had a conversation along the lines of oh my goodness
37:01or something like that yeah basically they all got ready just in case something failed
37:05on the approach so they didn't have to go down again but he's clearly happy and away he goes it's just
37:09it was a free pass that one of you and so the other car that had problems another loader was the signature
37:14loader aston martin car they had a fuel cell leak and lola had to get that from huntington as well
37:20would you believe they got their graduate engineer will smith uh who's about to leave for le mans by
37:24car sent him down for jump on the plane brought the part over gave it to him to fit it thought what a
37:29hero i am and what's the next thing that happens they said right can you go and make us all some tea
37:33please and actually uh signature police actually chartered that plane specifically over it was just a
37:39it was a little proper charter plane from le mans airport over to pick up the man and the importance
37:44so thank you to daily sports car.com for that story good work by everyone there do have a look
37:48at the site and uh we have been very very helpful to us so thanks guys yeah that's precisely what i
37:53was just about to say mark a great great outfit and uh if sports car racing is your thing then you
37:58really need to sign up with daily sports car.com because it keeps you in touch with everything
38:02globally and they are right there and don't forget uh eurosport indeed uh if you'd like to drop us a
38:08message mark's just going to go into the many many calls that you've been putting in here it's
38:12your sport.co.uk click on the message boards scroll down to motorsports and then click on le mans the
38:18topic area or the thread is a new exclamation mark your call 2010 le mans live now we've had quite a
38:26bit of action going on uh i think martin has been dipping into this one because there's been so much
38:30happening uh so if uh you have sent something and you've been thinking well i'm not going to send it
38:35again um we've had quite a few thousand in there uh as far as i know and uh so to save is actually
38:42digging so deep uh that we bury ourselves uh maybe you'd like to pose another question if you're feeling
38:47so inclined yeah we've got seven pages up at the moment please don't start a new thread do what
38:51carlton said new euro sport 2000 2010 le mans live stay on that thread otherwise we won't pick up your
38:57messages yeah why not cut and paste what you may have said earlier and uh just send it again get to you
39:02mark yep i'm just looking through at the moment so we've uh hello mark yeah we've got so many he
39:09cannot say wood for the trees nothing like dropping back down to rebel and racing here and uh lots of
39:15discussion uh i think they feel like they've gone away with murder there they do nervous nervous looks
39:21from hugh hayden there who runs the team he's been involved in sports car racing for quite a few years
39:26now and i'm a really great team for him to get hold of and to look after but certainly they are the last
39:31cars that needed to be doing some curb hopping today he has got tub damage and all the trouble
39:36they've had he has got a very flat forehead from slapping it himself uh on a regular basis throughout
39:42this weekend and i'm just glad he got away with it now this is the car we uh majored on earlier on it
39:47managed to split the aston martins this is the number 15 collis audi r10 ollie jarvis of newmarket was
39:53at the wheel of it earlier christian backwards on board now slipped down a bit down into 10th place and
39:59uh unfortunately christian backward like oliver jarvis had equipment stolen from the collis garage
40:05he lost um overall two sets of overalls also lost his bicycle if you see him on ebay we want a name
40:11yeah yeah exactly we're just watching the seven car in dino cabello's hands as well just charging him
40:16down and you can see the performance difference here fascinating sorry i thought you were carrying
40:22on yes well all right it is fascinating actually you can see the development of these cars clearly
40:29the performance difference they're so different as well that's the interesting thing they have changed
40:33a lot of things on the r15 that were on the r10 and i think that actually i already thought they'd have
40:38a bigger difference from the r15 than they actually have and it's interesting to see the two almost
40:42together especially with someone like dindar capello at the wheel yeah well dindar is closing pretty
40:47quickly and i don't think it'll be long before he he makes his move persio haven't had things all their
40:52own way by any means but they still fill the top three places here don't forget in lmp1 it's hpd that
40:59have been running so metronomically brilliantly out there one use in the general is it third in class
41:05as you've already heard as far as gt1 is concerned uh groschon and ford are still out there despite their
41:10troubles a little bit earlier on hitting the curbs coming in for checks all that kind of thing
41:15uh the corvette in the hands of groschard the 73 machine that's certainly gt1 one and two
41:20uh it's corvettes also making up the potential podium as we stand with david hart in the 72 car
41:25when it comes to gt2 however it's pierre kaffer's ferrari they have come through and you have to look a
41:30long long way down before you find a borsche in the hands of martin they're used to success they don't
41:36like this one little bit they came here for revenge but the 77 car is off the pace just for
41:41now yeah no they are and i think i think we're going to keep seeing things change it up in the gt2
41:46class we've got an amazing lineup of cars there and at the moment it's ferrari corvette corvette
41:50porsche ferrari porsche you know it's it's it's it's a top top lineup at the moment and i think we're
41:56going to see that keep changing up and the other one i think we may see a change of the leaderboard on
42:00is lmp2 because leading lmp2 at the moment is the hpd of nick laventus now nick although he's a good
42:06driver and he does a good job not quite on the pace of his fellow co-drivers and i'm watching right
42:10now as marco verner is closing in the gap in second and first place and i think we could see that change
42:16i think it is it's an absolutely fascinating one uh there's he is uh nick laventus uh well it's a 30
42:21years of age sounds uh sounds younger than that he's uh uh a slight slight man big of pockets and uh he
42:28he he's here and doing a great job however the uh mark verner is closing on him at the moment and
42:34it may be h hpd change around check this out it's another excursion at exactly the same position and
42:41this time it's uh the 92 aston it's the jmw motorsport car i'm not sure who's in that at the
42:47moment but having another little excursion over the same courage we saw the rebellion racing car going
42:51over the top of earlier so that corner can really really you in you come off a very very long fast
42:56straight off the mall sun turning into that uh first chicane and it's very tempting to just
43:01overcook it that little bit and that middle portion is actually very slippery so as you're going to
43:05turn and get back on the gas it's very easy to lose it there yeah it was bryce miller uh it was in his
43:10hands at that point they're running way down at the moment uh the 42nd on uh it from the entire course
43:16but uh in class probably around about 10th at the moment just off high street so we're starting to get
43:22into the very low sun aren't we liz and uh it gets difficult particularly here in indianapolis is
43:26the driving directly into the sun how difficult is that it is very difficult um you know i drove
43:32into the dust the last time i drove here and it can be a fantastic time in the evenings everything
43:36looks amazing but the tricky bit is that you you can't have if you're if you're in an open cockpit
43:41car especially you can't have a shaded visor like you'd like to have because you're going into the
43:45night conceivably unless the driver changes work otherwise so usually what you do is end up giving
43:49yourself an extra bit of sort of visor strip you do an extra strip down below so it limits your vision
43:55a bit but it really helps cut that sun down and it is very tricky tip your head basically just sort
43:59of lean yourself so that you can still see where you're going and it is like i say it is a really
44:03it's an amazing time to drive at le mans and i really enjoy it the first in into night is fabulous
44:07but very tricky but we've got a question for you here from john granger of norwich uh city dear to
44:12carthens heart of course uh how difficult is is it for drives and kanks to stay awake on wednesday
44:17night you showed us around the uh audi paddock section on the 24-minute program said where the
44:21drivers sleep can the drivers sleep and uh do you keep awake when when you're in the car or does
44:26the adrenaline do that for you um i think being able to sleep as a driver at a 24-hour race you have
44:31to teach yourself to do it my first 24-hour race i did in bathurst um in australia and i did not sleep
44:36at all and i was a mess the next day but you have to sort of train yourself to to rest because you
44:41realize that you have to rest so it is something you have to teach yourself to do almost um you can get
44:45some sleep because you are knackered after you've done a couple stints but certainly the middle of
44:49the night stint is really difficult um i've never found it easy it is you're standing in pit lane
44:54knowing you're about to get in a race car and go very very fast at four in the morning and you're
44:58thinking my gosh i'm actually really tired and so you know i do things like i i play certain music in my
45:03in my headphones and things like that to get myself fired up but once you're in the car you're off
45:07just uh scroll through the uh overall classification that's how it seems how it is at the moment uh
45:12purchase one two and three the oracle matmux is effectively a factory 908 don't forget as far as
45:18mb2 is concerned it's the hpd's as we've already told you and as you scroll further down you get
45:22into some of the other classes uh we don't mean to dismiss them at all because the battle here is
45:26going to rage on all night and it can change it's so so very close in fact i'm just looking at it
45:31and uh three laps covering what uh around about uh 15 vehicles uh amongst the gt's which is fantastic
45:39so it's very very close there and anything can happen you get a minor problem everything will
45:44change good i've got another question here um this is phil crosby who wants to give trawden in
45:49lancashire a shout he says loving your coverage you're doing a great job my question is if the
45:54race stays dry throughout what happens to all the rain tires that have been made for the race
45:58oh they'll probably get saved for another day i would have thought for a rainy day yeah exactly yeah
46:03save for a rainy day so to speak i mean the tires you wouldn't really want to reuse a tire that's been
46:07sitting for a long period of time because the rubber does degrade a bit but certainly in this
46:11case you know they'd be able to use it in a race in a couple weeks or that sort of thing so they will
46:15they would get used and if it does get beyond the degradation stage that makes a rather attractive
46:20coffee table they do have all uh auctions here of uh used tires incidentally uh some of them for
46:27charity some of them just to get some money back into the team to be honest and some of them they
46:31just give away you do see people actually walking away with these enormous uh bits of rubber which
46:36they've apparently cut a glass top on that's a very attractive tip so there we go there's there's
46:39an option for the future everybody one final question for the moment again for liz it's from
46:44carol m she says um i'm loving all the commentary but please please could you tell me what a tub is
46:51what a tub is okay very good we tend to think everyone knows everything i suppose yeah basically
46:56that the tub is what you build the race car off of it is the starting point of the race car i suppose you
47:01could say so basically it's it's the monocot it's the whole bit that you start all the other bits
47:05off of so that imagine a bathtub exactly yeah well done carlton so essentially most most teams you'll
47:11hear them talking about saying well as long as the tub is in damage we can rebuild it but normally what
47:16they say is once the tub has had extensive damage that's when you scrap the car so generally speaking
47:21that's when we see that the people actually giving up unless it's a very minor damage which is what we saw
47:25to the rebellion car which was just a small hole i think they've had into the tub which can be
47:30repaired but you know generally speaking if you can hang on to that you can rebuild the race and if
47:35suspensions ripped off the tub then it's day done isn't it i've seen that but that's a huge
47:39hole three pleasure that's it yes of course correct which causes tears to frenchmen of uh normally uh for
47:46fortitudinous uh stature such as uh semester board and i'm afraid i'm not a car builder so i can't give a
47:53more incisive description than that you can't uh she's written down the word fortitudinous by the way
47:59right rob bellwood has talked about a few minutes ago with the jm jmw aston martin the dunlop car he
48:05had problems he got oil on the windscreen he said as he left the pits and then a lot more a hard line
48:10to the power steering had fractured i couldn't see anything i was coming around at 40 miles per hour
48:15belts loosened to look around the screen and then went off in dinapolis because i couldn't see
48:20cars back in the pits it's being repaired i think probably since since we've had that information
48:24we've seen the car back on track haven't we uh i think we have yes and actually we were just talking
48:28about the low lighting problem and certainly that would have been affecting it as well especially
48:32with the oil spatter on the car that's a really difficult situation to be and i've been there myself
48:36and it's almost tempting to run the wipers but that's going to make it even worse but it is really
48:41difficult sometimes you have to just you have to pit and get it cleaned and it seems like a silly
48:44thing to pit for but you know visibility is important in a race car funnily enough so the
48:49four car uh just uh tracking with the matt works uh machine look excuse me i know a lot of you love
48:55delivery on this uh on this car sort of uh mondrian-esque i think if you're into your artists and dutchman
49:04cubism anyway so they uh have been nicked style uh throughout motorsport i think uh toyota
49:11race with a little bit of that coloring uh at one time matt decided to adopt it in france which is
49:15why it's that living um look at broadway boogie woogie on google and you'll see where they lifted the
49:21pattern colors from there you go you learn everything here uh we're going to take ourselves a short
49:26commercial break and we'll be back live on eurosport 2 as we are in uh just a few moments time don't
49:33forget that uh web page or web board we'll have a look while we're on the break
49:37our live coverage here from the moment watching the number 12 car the rebellion car which at the
49:46moment is down in 35th place it was 35th now 36 that's nicholas pross son of alain taking the car
49:53back out he's just had a big problem starting that in the pits and just watching that you said oh you
49:58always believe when it does fire up oh no i just i was just saying that uh that i had that problem in
50:03in the courage that i drove here in 2007 we seemed to have an ongoing starter motor problem and every
50:08time you'd fired up in pit lane you think oh excellent it started because if not there was
50:12always a little bit of drama there because one of the rules in le mans racing is that you must start
50:16the car on your own as the driver you cannot have the team bump start you or hook a battery up to it
50:21or anything you must be able to fire the vehicle on your own so that's that's an issue really lead
50:26petrol car at the moment is the 007 uh the lola it's uh prayer mats there it's great to see liz
50:32punching the air she's clearly happy about it uh three aston martin's in the top 10 that's great news
50:37as well uh their program is going to come in-house according to dave richards provided that the
50:43regulations just even the field a little bit because clearly they've got petrol in mind they don't want
50:47to go down the diesel route and they're not that delighted about the performance difference between
50:53the diesels and the petrol uh driven cars they may be running in sixth place but in terms of their
50:57lap times it's around about seven seconds a lap and by the time that you spin that out over 24 hours
51:03i mean uh they're a couple of laps down already they've got their own separate race haven't they
51:08liz they're going for uh the petrol class here which is an unofficial class within lmp1 well and this is
51:14i may upset some people here but i actually really do think these classes should be split
51:18i think we've got we've got quite a few years going now there's no matter what they say
51:22they're trying to do to equalize them they are an equal end of story and i think it's really
51:27unfortunate because you're looking at phenomenal drivers phenomenal teams tip top in the petrol
51:32class and the diesel class so why should a petrol class team and cars that you know that are at that
51:38level have to race for the best being like eight or six or seven and why should they just keep funding
51:43it exactly why should they come back and that's precisely what the lights of day which is it are are
51:47saying uh to the aco here and they want the changes to to level the playing field i just wonder whether
51:53it's going to take something like the the end of diesel uh technology within this uh within this
51:59wonderful sport that we love so much to actually just finally put that to them yeah but even taking
52:04us a step further is some of our contributors here are saying why aren't there separate classes for
52:09peugeot and audi now well i don't know because if you split the diesel and the petrol you essentially
52:16would be giving them their own class they'd be they'd be racing against each other and already we're
52:20seeing it you know it's it's the attrition rates already starting to happen we've got a peugeot
52:25out part part of um sports car racing is that you have to last to the finish so you know we may we
52:30may see that come around for audi still but i see you know i can see where people are saying that
52:34it shouldn't have to be a rarity though should it that petrol cars win uh and that's the point
52:38vanina ixford just tracking her of course sir she's in her sixth visit we find out i think we said
52:43five earlier on six visits and she's in her sixth different car as well and how many times did jackie
52:49win it six times there we are oh three sixes we better add one quickly a couple more probably for
52:56the marker of doom uh switch before you hit it look at this that is doomed is it not uh because if that
53:02doesn't get put out rather quickly that looks like it may well be terminal this yeah that does not look
53:07good and she's got to get it whoever that is they've got to get out quick that is natasha
53:11um catch nine um i've been in a flaming car before and it is not a nice situation at this point no
53:17absolutely she just needs to get out and she's actually going to have to go out the side door
53:20because i don't think she can get that door she's going to get across the vehicle and it's full of
53:23all kinds of struts here she's getting out yeah she's all right she's getting out oh goodness me she
53:29will have had breath issues as well because she will have had to take off any kind of supplies that
53:33she's got and get out of that she'll be coughing and spluttering but that car does not look good
53:37it's not been a good race before has it it's hopefully not gotten too much smoke into the
53:42cockpit yet a lot of these situations when they're burning out at the back like that when you stop the
53:45smoke engulfs the car there is not so much inside yeah it's not that bad but it is very stressful it's
53:51very scary as a driver because you sort of panic at that moment you forget to undo your belts and you're
53:55thinking god get out so it is a little bit wild but it's very unfortunate for them they've worked really hard
54:01well just news for you um well news is what you're going to get if you stay on eurosport too
54:05and we have a whiteout here with the smoke from that uh gt uh ford here unfortunately uh it looks
54:14like it's been dealt with good and proper however uh the 61 car is looking a bit second hand if you
54:19want to continue coverage with uh uh you will have to go to your sport international uh we think british
54:25you're actually staying good um but you will have to go fishing within the eurosport family to find
54:31us but we will stay live here we're just bidding a little fond farewell to eurosport too just for now
54:39welcome back we just had drama here at uh and if you're only just joining us natasha uh geshnang
54:46uh the swiss on board the matek competition ford gt uh she was ablaze and has brought the car
54:53up towards the barriers and couldn't open the door on her side of the car she managed to get out but
54:59she was injured coming into this race don't forget with a leg problem and so she had to go across the
55:04car and essentially unstrap herself crawl through a very tight area she's not a small woman she's big
55:10of stature uh is natasha and here is her vehicle and the ambulance has come or will be coming i imagine
55:17because it appeared that the cockpit had uh the firewall had been uh bypassed or infiltrated or
55:23failed in some way finally it must have been a an engine fire real good and proper there because
55:28once you opened the door it was billowing wasn't it liz it was it did not look nice at all and we
55:33don't really know what has caused that fire she did a great job to get it off the racing circuit
55:37and stop the car and she was able to get out as a paramedic she's of course very sore anyway from
55:41this accident so undoubtedly they saw her limping out of the car as well but it does it did appear
55:46to have a lot of smoke come out of the car and and smoke smoke inside a race car is just horrible i
55:51mean it is an awful smoke anyway it's a different sort of smoke especially when it melts down the
55:55wiring looms and everything it's it's really unpleasant so i hope she's all right she seemed
55:59all right just sore but hopefully she's not taken in too much even if she had been on uh on an oxygen
56:05feed or something like that it would have had to all been disconnected to get across the vehicle to get
56:09out so she's probably uh a little bit coffee at the moment and i just hope she's okay she did uh
56:14hobble away the hobble was not because of the incident that's an injury she carried to actually
56:20get here uh so um she was actually racing injured with a splint or a brace of some sort
56:27yeah i think i think it was and and i think they've had a really difficult time here they've had some
56:32problems with the car and they've been doing some really competitive times which was great so
56:36um i was really pleased to see that but certainly this is not the way they would want to finish
56:39their first lemon and i just question if maybe those those ecu issues that they've been you know
56:44that a lot of these gt1 cars have been having all year i question if perhaps that had something to do
56:48with this because did look to be like some major failure in there and i do wonder if that's starting
56:52to have a bit of an attrition yeah we won't mention your names but when yeti morelli have been supplying
56:56them to all the world fi gt championship but everybody except larbra wanted to change those units
57:01for this weekend for reliability but larbra blocked it and like in formula one if you were
57:05if one team doesn't agree then it doesn't happen we talked earlier about lola and uh we've been so
57:11so impressed with the progress of the the lola aston martins here and the three cars the two golf cars
57:19and the signature car just joining us now is the boss of lola martin brain martin good after good good
57:24after evening good evening still daylight it's been it's been a longer it's been a longer martin
57:30you must be absolutely delighted to see your cars again running so high up the order we're looking
57:34at 6th 7th and um sorry 6th 8th and 10th and 11th yeah so yes of course i am but of course it's early
57:46days also and uh there's a lot um a lot of running to be done uh tonight uh game tomorrow and it's
57:54tomorrow around noon when the sun is up and that i i if it's going to be dry well then it's at that
58:01time that stresses come on all the components that have lasted the first 20 hours martin you joined us
58:08last year in the commentary box and sadly at that time you just uh had your formula one bid turned down
58:12but much much happier times now because you are already working towards next year's lmp1 regulations
58:19i believe but how much can you tell us about noda's plans um i'm going to be a bit boring at the moment
58:25we are still digesting and in fact you we were discussing up until yesterday and we're still
58:31hoping to have another chat with the aco tomorrow um so we're still digesting what's happening and we're
58:40going to try and work with them because obviously they're making changes that they feel are necessary
58:48and they have listened to a lot of things that the teams not just us the the manufacturers and
58:54the drivers have been saying so it's a wonderful thing uh but um there's still a couple of things
58:59that we need to get cleared to know where we're going next year whatever happens we're going to be
59:06here i mean you do have clout you are the most representative manufacturer here at the martin this
59:11here so you can call the shots to a certain extent well it's uh it's uh yes that's great 77 was the last
59:18time we had 10 cars here and i was here i was driving um and the other thing mark i was very boring this but
59:25it is 50 years since uh the first lola appeared here in uh mark one back in 1960 right wow that's
59:35that's been a bit overlooked i think i'm still wearing my 50th anniversary works for today as
59:41well a bit overlooked perhaps in all the celebrations for jaguar and corvette but congratulations on that
59:47and uh i mean everyone loves lowly you're you're you're one of the true british manufacturers i mean not
59:51just race car manufacturers but probably you and morgan are the
