Police officers in Tobago embarked on delivering tickets to the motoring public in Tobago, but it was not a fixed penalty. The officers were starting their twelve days of Christmas Goodwill project. More on this Elizabeth Williams report.
00:00This morning, the officers of the Tobago Division embarked on our 12-day-of-Christmas Goodwill Patrol exercise throughout the entire division.
00:11So we had officers in Scarborough, we have officers in the Chilvan District, and later on this afternoon we're going to have officers out in the Crown Point District.
00:19We had officers out in Moriah this morning, and as well in the Countryside, we had the Charlottesville and the Roxborough Police officers out.
00:27Many drivers were taken by surprise by the gesture, which took place along the roadways of Tobago, according to Acting Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mahalia Backus.
00:38Thus far, we have been well-received by members of the public. Many persons expressed surprise by the tokens being given to them.
00:47The reception thus far has been very, very receptive by the motorists and persons on the roadway who are very thankful for this gesture this morning.
00:56Checks were made by officers to ensure drivers maintained law and order.
01:02We also inspected documents, and we paid utmost attention also to the persons who were in adherence to the traffic regulations,
01:11people wearing their seatbelts, who had their documents well in order in terms of their driver's permit,
01:17and their insurance, the way in which they were carrying about children in the vehicle, all of that,
01:22and the general public was commended for doing the right thing.
01:25And as we continue within the Tobago Division, in this state, we will also continue to spread these words of advice to persons
01:33that we have to look out for each other whilst on the roadway, whilst we are at home,
01:39because our belief is that safety is all our priority in the Tobago Division.
