00:02:12for Scottish clubs in Europe. Celtic outclassed by Roma. Rangers defensive frailties exposed
00:02:17once again. Aberdeen out of Europe with no wins. And of course over the course of the
00:02:23weekend we've got Scottish Premiership football. Who's going to lift the first domestic trophy
00:02:27of the season in the Premier Sports Cup final on Sunday between Celtic and St Mirren. And

00:02:37will have access to them. But whatever you get available to you it's going to be mightily
00:02:43expensive. We're going to discuss that as well because a lot of people are up in arms about
00:02:48the tickets in the USA for two in Boston and one in Miami. So all you have to do is don't
00:02:54forget to hit the subscribe button. We'd love to hear from you. We will indeed read out some
00:02:59of your messages as well to get your thoughts on some of the main football issues. Hi to
00:03:05everybody Bob as well as Annie and lots of other people who will be joining us over the
00:03:10course of this hour. OK. Celtic 0 Roma 3 outclassed. Fair to say it?
00:03:17Yeah I think the first 45 minutes was a bit embarrassing for the whole Celtic team. It's
00:03:23very evident that the system we want to play 3-4-3. He hasn't got the players that are good
00:03:28enough to play European football at that level. Two wing backs that don't know how to defend
00:03:33and I would throw the three centre backs as well who don't know how to defend either.
00:03:38You know apart from that you've not got a recognised centre forward so they're in an absolute mess
00:03:43at this precise moment in time. Three goals. The man are rather quick. Certainly the first
00:03:48one an OG but it's silenced the stadium. Over and above that I mean scales OG that's fine
00:03:57it can happen but he was culpable I thought in the other two as well. Yeah he didn't have his
00:04:01best night Peter in terms of the own goal and the two goals from Ferguson but yeah Celtic just
00:04:06echo what Ruffy said. Celtic were all over the place I think the 3-4-3 formation with the two
00:04:09wide players. Tenecte and Yang just doesn't work. They're not defensive minded enough and the two
00:04:15wide centre backs. Trusty and Tierney were getting skinned. You know we're getting annihilated
00:04:19down that side 2v1. Roma were just working the ball wide. Creating 2v1s. Cutting balls across.
00:04:24You know crossing balls in. And Celtic were all over the place. It was like chaos at the
00:04:28first half. Second half he changed it slightly. Brought some subs on. Celtic were better in
00:04:32the second half. But I thought Roma had the game won but then took the foot off the gas.
00:04:35So worrying. I think if you're a Celtic supporter watching that first half. You know there's
00:04:40no. I don't think Celtic would have won the game with any manager in charge. I think Roma
00:04:43are a better side with better players. But it was the way they lost the goals Peter to
00:04:47go in 3-0 at half time. They had an opportunity just before half time to get back in it.
00:04:50You know Engels missed the penalty. But a really dreadful night for Celtic. And more
00:04:56questions to answer for the manager I think.
00:04:58Yeah. John makes a good point when he says Celtic would have been outclassed by Roma even
00:05:02under St Martin. They are a top side.
00:05:05Yeah. Just looking at them they look a different kind of player than the Celtic players. They
00:05:10all look like giants compared to the Celtic boys. Celtic were so out muscled, out jumped, out fought.
00:05:18Just for the strength of them. Different kind of player. And I just thought that they get
00:05:24bullied all over the place. I think the manager was right when he came out. I think he came
00:05:28out afterwards and said we got bullied. They certainly did because they didn't have the
00:05:32strength. And then obviously we touched on it. You looked at the bench of Roma. When their
00:05:38bench came on. The three players that they brought in. Celtic have got nowhere near that
00:05:44kind of class sitting on the bench to come on and sort of a change of game.
00:05:50You know bully is one thing. But I thought technically moving the ball. I mean there was
00:05:55players there that had the skills as well. But they were able to quickly make one touch
00:06:01on a pass rather than two and three, Tam.
00:06:03Yeah, I just think they look different class from the Celtic players. I think that, as you
00:06:07said, technically on the ball. Comfortable on the ball. Strong. You know, in duels. You
00:06:11know, they were shrugging the Celtic players aside. They were organised. They played three
00:06:15at the back as well. But they were well drilled. They knew how to play that system. You know,
00:06:19I think Celtic might get away with a 3-4-3 against lesser opposition here. Against top opposition.
00:06:24You know, they're going to get done. And they get done time and time again in the first
00:06:28half. Three and all probably flattered Celtic. So, yeah, all in all, I think that a disappointing
00:06:33performance. Second half was better than the actual coming on. Look lively. Should have
00:06:37scored. You know, unlucky with the one that got chopped offside. Too many Celtic players
00:06:41off their game, Peter. I thought Tenecti was poor. I thought Negrin was poor. I thought
00:06:44Hatati was poor. You know, Yang. You know, Scales had a poor game who's probably one of Celtic's
00:06:50best players. So, I think all in all, you know, the players didn't really turn up on
00:06:54the night. And you have to against a very good Roma side. But we'll speak about the
00:06:58game on Sunday now. It's an enormous game for Wilfred Nonsi already. I think there's
00:07:03a few daggers out amongst the supporters already probably. And whether he sticks with that or
00:07:09not, I don't know. But he has to win the final on Sunday. I'll disagree with that in
00:07:13a moment. You don't think he has to win the final?
00:07:15No, I'll argue the point with you on that shortly. But Negrin is a good point you make
00:07:21because I didn't think that Negrin understood that the people wearing the hoops were the
00:07:25team that he had to pass the ball to. He didn't get that. I thought Schmeichel's distribution
00:07:29was woeful.
00:07:30Yeah, when you're doing that, see when you're doing that building up for the back, you need
00:07:34players that are comfortable on the ball. I definitely think, okay, some of the distribution's
00:07:39poor. But if you know you're hitting a poor ball with somebody who's got the ability to
00:07:44get out of it, do you know what I mean? Celtic don't have that kind of player. They don't
00:07:48have that kind of player who's going to have the confidence to deal with a bad kickout.
00:07:52And every time it happened, in scales in particular, he was just passing it to people under pressure.
00:07:58And the people that were under pressure couldn't dig themselves out of a hole. And all of a
00:08:01sudden, they're under attack. And I noticed that, and I know we're talking about the other
00:08:06two games. I noticed that in the other two games as well. In European football, when you
00:08:11make a mistake, you're under pressure. The teams are that good. If you make a bad pass,
00:08:16you're under pressure. They're at you as quick as anything. And nine times out of ten, you're
00:08:21going to be punished. We saw last night that any time they got the chance, you got punished.
00:08:26Yeah. But when Celtic got the chance, you never got punished.
00:08:29Tam, you know good players, when they press, at every level you play football, if somebody
00:08:35presses you and you can't lift your head and you've got to rely on your first touch, if
00:08:39you're coming up against teams that are not giving you that extra two or three seconds to
00:08:44think, what am I going to do? You know, good players sometimes can actually think, I know
00:08:49where I'm going to put this before I even think about a touch. But, you know, even the
00:08:53ball directly down the middle to Maida. Maida's not in a group of players that's going to hold
00:08:59it in, lay it off, one touch, at times you get found out. And that's where I thought
00:09:05most of the team get found out when the ball was coming in at them quickly, a heavy, a pass
00:09:11that was with a bit of force. You knew the player was right up your back end and your
00:09:15first touch had to be immaculate and it just wasn't.
00:09:18Yeah, I just think that Roma went and got after Celtic, went and pressed them, Peter. And
00:09:21you're right, if you're pressing teams and you're pressing high teams and look at the
00:09:24quality play through, you're going to win the ball back all the time. Celtic do it to teams
00:09:27here. They've done it under Ange Postocoglu. They pressed from the front and the teams weren't
00:09:31good enough to play through that press. Celtic weren't good enough. If Celtic were good
00:09:34enough to play through the press last night, they would have got a lot of joy because Roma were all in.
00:09:38They were going for it. They were trying to win the ball high up the pitch. Celtic weren't
00:09:41good enough to break through that. And that's where Roma kept picking up the ball
00:09:4430-40 years for going and building attacks. And yeah, you're right. I think you're
00:09:48needing a more physical presence than Maeda. I think Ian Atchall, when he came on,
00:09:51started to hold the ball up a bit more. He's a natural striker and that allowed people
00:09:55to get around about him and build the play. But yeah, that straight ball up to a striker,
00:09:59as an ex-striker myself, it's the worst ball he can get. I think it was the second goal
00:10:02or the third goal that the ball played into Meda's feet and he played it back, I think, to
00:10:06Hatati who lost the ball. It's a horrible ball to deal with. I think it was Schmeichel
00:10:10who fired the ball to him. It's a straight ball because the defender can just come right
00:10:12through the back of you. So yeah, I just thought Celtic technically were outclassed
00:10:17last night. And as I said, it wouldn't have mattered if Martin O'Neill was the manager.
00:10:21I just think they were a better side. I just think it was alarming the space that Roma got
00:10:25in the first half and the chances they created. If you're a Celtic supporter, you're thinking
00:10:29we should have played more tight. Maybe it's changed the system to the players.
00:10:33And again, it goes back to, and this is something that was on the back burner for a wee while,
00:10:38but it goes back to the point where you can get, and I'm talking about levels here,
00:10:43you can get a Celtic side that can go up to the Allianz Arena. Even when they had a striker
00:10:49sold from underneath their noses in Cuyogo, they could still go there and play. A high press,
00:10:55a good brand of football, quick passing, one touch, really impressive. And then once you're
00:11:01derailed by the board, and then you slowly but surely lose players through injury, don't sign
00:11:08players of a certain quality. And remember, by the way, they could have had the boy Ferguson
00:11:12on loan as well, and they never moved for him. Now, there could be an excuse in there
00:11:16saying he was, maybe his wages were too high, they didn't want to pay it. But he's on loan
00:11:20at Roma, and he's the perfect type of player that Celtic needed up there, who was a different
00:11:26style to, different to Iheanacho, different to Maeda, could have actually given them an out
00:11:31ball high up the pitch, because he looks as if he's a sturdy boy who could hold the ball in
00:11:37as well, and of course he could hit a shot last night. Yeah, I don't think Celtic are
00:11:41going to get him now. I think that ship's sailed, I think, his performance last night.
00:11:44I don't think he's been playing a lot for Roma. I think they obviously gave some players
00:11:48some game time last night. This wasn't their first team. Yeah, they rested three or four years,
00:11:52as Ruffy said, the three they brought on are regular starters. So, yeah, last night he played
00:11:57really well last night, he scored two great goals. But in terms of Celtic, yeah, I just
00:12:01think the quality, Celtic have not got the quality now. I think that the confidence is low
00:12:04I think that the confidence is low as well. Losing that first goal, you could hear the
00:12:08anxiety in the stadium, Peter, and that doesn't help.
00:12:10Did you see the pictures on the game? Did you see the stands?
00:12:13Yeah.
00:12:14There was a real, I mean, from the Brendan Rodgers people scunnered situation, to the anger
00:12:21over the board, and then to Martin almost re-energising the support, and filling them full
00:12:28of hope, filling them full of expectancy at a certain level, to then last night, you're
00:12:35looking at it panning around the stadium, and it's almost as if the life's been sucked
00:12:39out of everybody again.
00:12:40Yeah, I don't know if that's because of the level they're at. Obviously it's not a Champions
00:12:43League night, Peter, and last year there were some great Champions League nights, and the
00:12:46Celtic supporters want to be at the top table, they want to be in the big competition, but
00:12:50Europa League's probably the level now.
00:12:51Yeah, but the high of Feyenoord, suddenly you look at that stand and they're like...
00:12:56Yeah, but I know, Peter, that's what like supporters are. You know, give them a winning
00:12:59run like Martin did, and they're happy. You know, they're not worrying about what's
00:13:03happening with the board, and they're not happy. We're winning, we're winning games,
00:13:06we're going home, we're smiling in our face, and everybody's talking about us beating
00:13:09Feyenoord away from home, and on a winning run and all that, and that's all the fans will
00:13:14be talking about. Then you go on a downward slide of losing two games, and it's not very
00:13:18often, Celtic lose two games, you know, so then the supporters go, oh here we are,
00:13:22we're back where we are again. This is us back, and obviously whatever happens at the
00:13:27weekend, we'll have to wait and see there. But somewhere, somebody's got to build the
00:13:32whole fan base up again, and it's all going to kick off.
00:13:34I think the Celtic supporters are, I think they're concerned about the managerial appointment
00:13:38at the minute, Peter. I don't think that they're...
00:13:40I think so.
00:13:41Yeah, I don't think there's a whole heap of confidence behind Wilfred Nonsi from the Celtic
00:13:45support, plus the fact that Martin O'Neill came in and done so well. I think a lot of
00:13:50people were pining for him to get the job on a more permanent basis, so I think those
00:13:55two things may be added to the apathy last night of the game.
00:13:58Bologna next?
00:13:59They're flying.
00:14:00Can you see anything?
00:14:01No, no, they're flying. I think they were on last night, the way to Celtic Vigo.
00:14:05They're near the top of the table, and I don't see Celtic getting anything in Bologna.
00:14:10The last game against the Treksa won the night one.
00:14:12Okay. We'll talk about the Premier Sports Cup final shortly, but we've got to get the
00:14:16European stuff out of the way. If Celtic was a lesson in technical ability and the level
00:14:24that Roma were operating at, and obviously the asset stripping that's gone on at Celtic,
00:14:29then what about Rangers? Ferenc Farris 2, Rangers 1 started well enough with a good
00:14:35Miofsky goal. Obviously, we all had to wait for it. But then from there, the defensive
00:14:41frailty is once again not tracking your runners.
00:14:43No, you're right, and it's amazing in this day and age that a team of Rangers quality and
00:14:49standard can get beat by a ball over the top. How many times have we seen that? A ball over
00:14:54the top and it's panic stations, you know. It's just a matter of communication between
00:14:58the two centre-halves. One marks his man, the other one drops off in case he doesn't get
00:15:04it. They don't do that. They're so out of touch with each other and anybody that throws
00:15:09that ball over the top. And I'm sorry, but I have to give Tavenier pelters again. Tavenier
00:15:14is such a disappointment in European football. He never defends. He doesn't offend his area.
00:15:21And people identify that when he's playing the European football, he wanders and he wants
00:15:25to get forward and great if he goes forward and he puts a quality ball in. But he's got
00:15:30to defend. When the boy played that diagonal ball, he was about 30 yards for the boy. He
00:15:39was away in the middle of the midfield. I don't know why he was in the midfield. And
00:15:44also the second goal as well. I mean, he just didn't pick the ball up at all. Well, that
00:15:48was Fernandes. Yeah, I know that, but he allowed the ball to come in and it was so easy for
00:15:53the boy just to have a touch and fire it in. But Fernandes, I don't know what he was doing.
00:15:57Yeah, but there's a responsibility to him. Listen, you can hire, and I'm not defending
00:16:02James Tavenier at all here. What I am saying to you is, when you are a team that wins and
00:16:08loses, and you have the attitude of everybody's got a job to do, Gassama lets the guy run off
00:16:14him, fails to track that run, and then eventually they get that first goal. You defend from the
00:16:19front. You know, your forwards can put in a shift. The midfield protects the back line
00:16:25as well. You know, Rangers, you know, even teams domestically can pick them off.
00:16:30Yeah, listen, I think obviously the first goal, I think that, yeah, Gassama's got to go
00:16:35the run. It just gets played around them. Then Raskin's got to come across. It's a cut
00:16:39back, then it's a finish, and it's a terrible time to lose a goal as well. I think there was
00:16:42five minutes added in the first half, and it was the last minute of added time. You know,
00:16:46Rangers have a real opportunity to go in 1-0 up, regroup, and go in and get a big win for
00:16:50themselves, and get themselves a wee chance to get through. But the second goal for James
00:16:54Tavernier's lazy defending, he's got to stop the cross coming in. And then Fernandes,
00:16:58I don't think I've ever seen a centre half turn to face his own goal when the cross is
00:17:03coming in. It was incredible. I've never seen that in my life. I've never seen that
00:17:06in all the time I've watched football. It was weird, and it's a terrible goal for
00:17:10Rangers to lose. I think that's the main problem for Rangers is defensively. I think
00:17:14the two centre backs, two young lads at the minute, they're crying out for a Davey
00:17:18Weir type centre half. They're crying out for, in a January window,
00:17:21somebody at 33, 34, just to come in and talk to people. Clint Hill, somebody like that
00:17:26out of that out, Peter, who can come in and just, he's not a centre half for me. I think
00:17:31that Rangers, until they sort that back four out in those two centre back positions, they're
00:17:36going to struggle.
00:17:37You've narrowed it down to two. Last week I said four. I think they need four. The two
00:17:42full backs can't defend either. And the two centre backs at the minute are atrocious.
00:17:47So, yeah, Rangers need to sort that out because I think midfield to front, they've got players
00:17:52that can go and cause teams problems, but defensively, yeah I think so, Peter. I think
00:17:56they caused, I've seen them the last night, obviously, come on, let's come on, let's
00:17:59come on, let's, but they did create chances against the United you were at the game. They
00:18:03created a lot of chances last night. I didn't think they were that bad going forward as
00:18:07well, but defensively they're all over the place, Peter.
00:18:09I think it's a good point that Ali McCoy has made on commentary in the last couple of games
00:18:14as well, Ruffy. Only Rangers have managed to, in a couple of transfer windows, get rid of
00:18:21players that have scored goals, creative players that can beat a man and replace them
00:18:26with people that can't beat a man. They're the worst team now.
00:18:30Well, if they think of European football, Cerny in particular, Cerny was a person who was
00:18:35going back with us. Cerny, Seymour, Dessers.
00:18:38He was putting balls into the box and criticised Dessers if he wanted, but at least he was getting
00:18:43a service. He was, I don't know what kind of ratio he was scoring, but he was scoring in
00:18:47Europe. He showed he was good enough to get goals in there.
00:18:50And there have just been big, big mistakes.
00:18:53Yeah, absolutely. And even then at that level, we're still critical of them. Let's not forget.
00:18:57I mean, I'm just talking about it going down in level. And every time they bought a player,
00:19:02it seems to be that the player is more inferior as every signing comes along. And if that's
00:19:08humanly possible, they've managed to do it.
00:19:11One point after six games, this is a Rangers side over not long ago in the Europa League
00:19:15final. And now we're looking at Rangers, Celtic, and we're about to get on to Aberdeen.
00:19:22My God, the coefficient is dreadful.
00:19:24Yeah, I mean, I don't know where we're sitting at now, probably below Sam Marino, to be honest
00:19:30with you. But yeah, it's just been a dreadful season for the coefficient. It's been a dreadful
00:19:34season for Scottish football in Europe. And really has, all the way from the start, you
00:19:38Celtic getting knocked out with Kyra at Almaty, a shocker. Rangers getting hammered with Club
00:19:42Brugge, you know, and Hibbs getting out, Dunyanty getting out. You know, I just think the standard,
00:19:47the overall standard of Scottish football is low at the minute. And that is reflecting
00:19:52on the results in Europe. And until we start to get better domestically, Peter, and get
00:19:59better players playing in bigger teams, then we are going to continue to struggle and embarrass
00:20:04ourselves in Europe.
00:20:05Brian makes a good point. He says, Peter, Celtic and Rangers teams combined couldn't make
00:20:08up a winning 11 for European football. And that says it all. I don't think I can disagree
00:20:13with you there. Brian, I think you've got a good point on it. Certainly looked at both
00:20:18games last night and it was just, it was poor to watch. So that's Celtic and Rangers.
00:20:25European football for Aberdeen. Lost to Strasbourg. Strasbourg got a good side again. But they
00:20:33failed to win any of their seven games, Aberdeen. It's been dismal.
00:20:37Yeah, we all keep, we keep giving them a chance. You know, we keep giving them a wee benefit
00:20:41of the doubt that it's getting better, you know, after that hammer they got in Greece.
00:20:45And there has been signs of, you know, it has been getting a wee bit better defensively.
00:20:50But last night, there's no excuse particularly for the goal they lost. And if it wasn't for
00:20:56the Aberdeen goalkeeper, it could have been more. So I saw the manager saying he was proud
00:21:02of his players, blah, blah, blah. But he can only be proud of them that it wasn't 6-0.
00:21:07You know, I think that's all the thing you can take out of that game.
00:21:10Yeah. I must admit I felt sorry for Aberdeen because I thought the canister goal, I mean
00:21:19for God's sake.
00:21:20And that changes the game, Peter. You go 1-0 up.
00:21:22What was it disallowed for?
00:21:23It came off his hand.
00:21:25He had a header to hand.
00:21:26I don't know. That's a shocker.
00:21:28It was harsh.
00:21:29No, harsh. Very harsh, Peter.
00:21:30And it was a great header. And Aberdeen go 1-0 up. The fans, it's a different game.
00:21:34Absolutely.
00:21:35It's a different game.
00:21:36So, yeah, I was flicking back and forward obviously with the both games going on.
00:21:40But, yeah, I thought Aberdeen in the first half looked lively.
00:21:43I thought they started the game really well.
00:21:45Strasbourg are an excellent side.
00:21:46I think they're sitting in the top four or five in France.
00:21:48I think they're sitting near the top of that conference league.
00:21:51And that's also not their first team.
00:21:53Yeah, I think they arrested a few players as well.
00:21:54That's a bad sign for us, isn't it?
00:21:56You'd be disappointed with Aberdeen.
00:21:58I think that Strasbourg are a good side.
00:22:00The AK Athens, teams like that.
00:22:02I think no beating Noah the other week there.
00:22:04You know, an Armenian team at home.
00:22:06That's a shocker.
00:22:07You should be beating them.
00:22:09I look at some of the Irish teams that are doing well in that.
00:22:11Chamrock Rovers teams like that are more competitive than Aberdeen.
00:22:14So, that's a damning indictment as well in Scottish football.
00:22:17That the Irish teams are even doing better than us.
00:22:19Yeah.
00:22:20Sorry to any of the Irish viewers who are obviously not happy with their criticism of their league.
00:22:26But, you know, we are now in a situation where we're witnessing not only a real drop in quality.
00:22:33Our game at the moment might be competitive domestically and there's some interesting storylines that we're all going to discuss shortly.
00:22:40But, European wise, we are going backwards.
00:22:44It's as simple as that.
00:22:46And it's embarrassing.
00:22:47You know, I genuinely, I don't know how we address this situation because quite simply, I see this as a Groundhog Day situation where we get to, and this is for the last 20 years, Ruffy.
00:23:02You know, apart from Rangers over a four or five year period where I thought some of their performances were really good.
00:23:08The odd performance from Celtic.
00:23:10But, you get to December, everybody's pumped out.
00:23:13You start to ask questions.
00:23:15Time you get to March.
00:23:16Somebody from the SPFL releases, well, it's really a good league.
00:23:19It's really competitive.
00:23:21We've got top and bottom, middle of it.
00:23:23It's all competitive to get into the top six.
00:23:25And by the way, let's put out a wee story saying that we want to go to a ten team league to put the frighteners up everybody.
00:23:31You know, this is where we're at and it's Groundhog Day.
00:23:34Well, we're noticing that you have to pick our two best, well, best teams, you know, for a long, long time, Rangers and Celtic.
00:23:42You have to look at the quality of player that they've got, you know, and that's why we're struggling.
00:23:46You know, they're not getting the coefficient points that we need now.
00:23:50And before it used to be Hibbs' fault, Hartz's fault, Aberdeen's fault for getting knocked out early.
00:23:56It's still their fault.
00:23:57Now it's collective.
00:23:58Yeah.
00:23:59It's the whole, every one of them are now thrown into it that they are not contributing enough to get us the coefficient points.
00:24:05And it's obviously the quality of player that Rangers and Celtic and Aberdeen, and I don't know about Hibbs, I think Hibbs have got a bit better than so have Hartz.
00:24:15But the quality of player that you're talking about is no longer here in Scottish football.
00:24:20Yeah.
00:24:21And maybe some of the Scottish players we have to have a look at as well.
00:24:25Maybe we have to look at the structure of the league.
00:24:27This is not a knee-jerk reaction.
00:24:28This is something that we've discussed ad nauseum over the last 10, 15, 20 years about our dismal performances in Europe.
00:24:35And again, I discount and take out of this some of the great performances that Rangers have produced on a regular basis in Europe, which has kept that coefficient going at times and sporadically Celtic.
00:24:49Okay, that's European football, putting it to bed. Premier Sports Cup final.
00:24:57He could lose the Cup final, Wilfried Nonsi.
00:25:00And I don't think, there are undoubtedly, Tam, going to be fans who would give him pelters and they'll give the board pelters and they'll not be fancying him.
00:25:09But, I mean, for God's sake, where are we, Tam, if we are going to slaughter somebody three games into our country?
00:25:16You know, we've already had a ridiculous column from a would-be pundit talking about his trainers, talking about, you know, his tactics board.
00:25:27You know, that I think we can disregard as just sheer lunacy.
00:25:32But we do have people actually questioning, you know, him as a person, as a manager, as an appointment, after one game.
00:25:42Do you know what, Peter, I don't think they're questioning him as a manager.
00:25:46I think they're questioning him coming in and changing the system from what was doing well.
00:25:51I think that's more than...
00:25:52Lots of managers do that.
00:25:53I know that, Peter, but...
00:25:54Jens Berthra Lasko did it.
00:25:56Yeah, right, he's the pre-season to come in.
00:25:58I think when you look at Celtic, he'd won five in a row, playing a certain way, and now they've got...
00:26:04He's totally changed the system to 3-4-3.
00:26:05I think that's probably more than questioning his attributes as a manager, as a coach.
00:26:10Whether he sticks with that at the weekend, I don't know.
00:26:12But I think Celtic need to win this game, Peter.
00:26:15I don't think that he's going to get sacked if they don't win it.
00:26:17But I think the pressure will be incredible if he gets beat.
00:26:19If he loses his first three games as Celtic manager, the nice route for him.
00:26:22And I agree with you, it shouldn't be, but this is Glasgow, this is Celtic.
00:26:27And if you lose your first three games as a Celtic manager, you're going to be under pressure.
00:26:31That's just the law of the jungle.
00:26:33I think you can give him a bit of leeway with the Hearts game and the Roma game.
00:26:38There is no leeway with St Mirren.
00:26:41On a game, he's got to go in and win that game.
00:26:44Ruffy, you're 74, for God's sake, listen to yourself.
00:26:46He's got to go and win that game.
00:26:48He doesn't have to go and win the game.
00:26:49He wants to win the game as a Celtic manager because of the expectations there.
00:26:53If he's beaten, he's right.
00:26:56We're living in a world now where the Celtic fans will go mental.
00:26:59Some of them will direct their anger towards the board because of the nature of the way the signings have gone,
00:27:06the recruitment process.
00:27:07He's three games into the bloody season for him.
00:27:09But is that not one of the reasons why he needs to win it?
00:27:12So that these things don't happen that you're talking about?
00:27:15So he loses the game.
00:27:16Is he going to get sacked?
00:27:17No, of course he's not going to get sacked, but it's going to be a nun.
00:27:20For a new manager coming in, you want to be, you know, on the right side of the supporters and everything.
00:27:26So you only get that by winning games.
00:27:28If he loses this one, I mean, they're already talking about it.
00:27:32Is it the first time Celtic a new manager's been beat twice?
00:27:35Yeah.
00:27:36I mean, that's what people do.
00:27:37They start throwing out stats.
00:27:39I mean, if he doesn't get beat, what is that?
00:27:42Is he the first manager that's lost three games?
00:27:45Peter, I think it's the players as well.
00:27:48I think when a new manager comes in and he's got his philosophy in the game,
00:27:52I think as a player, you'll follow him and you'll get behind him if you're winning games.
00:27:58I think if a new guy comes in and he's got a different way of playing,
00:28:02sets the team up different, different system, and you lose the first three games,
00:28:06I think the players start to question it more than the fans will question it.
00:28:10I think the players will go, maybe we should get back to 4-3-3 or maybe we should get back to 3-5-2.
00:28:16I don't know if this is working.
00:28:17What about, I'm just asking you this, it's not so much I'm playing devil's advocate,
00:28:22I'm asking you, what about the manager comes in, I get Jens Berthalasko in a pre-season,
00:28:29but what about the manager comes in, Danny Rule, and looks and says,
00:28:34well, I'm the manager now, I've got to be allowed to build it.
00:28:37Well, I'm the manager now, I've got to be allowed to get a transfer window in January.
00:28:41I'm the manager, I've got to be allowed to take them to the end of the season.
00:28:44You know, this is not a six-game, eight-game deal.
00:28:48This is not a Crystal Palace, we don't like the way you're playing, Frank DeBoer, I think we're going to bump you.
00:28:53You know, this is Celtic, who've signed this boy, brought him out of America and said,
00:28:59right, you're the manager, we are going to back you in this January transfer window,
00:29:04because, quite simply, our own future is at stake, because the Celtic fans already want four of us out of this point.
00:29:11I don't think there's any doubt about that, Pete. I don't think, I don't think, listen,
00:29:14Celtic both heads are on the block here, so is Paul Tinsdale, so they're going to back him.
00:29:18Similar to the Rangers situation, you know, with Patrick Stewart and Kevin Thaywell,
00:29:22they backed Martin to the hilt until they had no other option.
00:29:25So I think you're right, I think they're going to back him, but what I'm saying is,
00:29:28if a new Celtic manager comes in and loses his first three games, including a cup final,
00:29:32he's going to be under pressure.
00:29:34There's going to be questions getting asked, is the job too big for him?
00:29:37That's going to be questions getting asked if he loses his first three games.
00:29:40For a long time, we've been talking about the new Rangers manager coming into a mess.
00:29:44This guy's come into a mess.
00:29:46Not as big a mess as Rangers.
00:29:48This is Johnston out, Cameron Vickers, with Celtic and that defence, that defence are a mess.
00:29:54You've got Maida and Gianni who's out the door.
00:29:56I wouldn't be surprised if Ha-hati...
00:29:58Who?
00:29:59Ha-hati!
00:30:00Ha-hati!
00:30:01Isn't that...
00:30:03Isn't that...
00:30:04Can you hear that?
00:30:05Ha-hati?
00:30:07Ha-hati!
00:30:08Ha-hati is a fellow Morelos.
00:30:11Is there any chance...
00:30:12Can you pronounce Morelos?
00:30:14I can't get caught in the back of my...
00:30:16Okay then.
00:30:17I wouldn't even surprised if he won't sit at the door.
00:30:20We've already decided that Yang and the other boy are murder.
00:30:24You know, they've now got a centre forward.
00:30:27He's got to deal with a mess as much as what Rangers have got to deal with.
00:30:31It's not a big a mess as Rangers and no disrespect.
00:30:33They're playing something more than a cup final.
00:30:35Celtic should be going and winning that.
00:30:37Yeah, but listen, Danny Rule's not...
00:30:39Danny Rule's not...
00:30:40He's not hit the ground running, but he's been getting results, Peter.
00:30:42No, no, I don't say that.
00:30:43Domestically.
00:30:44He's building something.
00:30:45He's managed to steady it.
00:30:46Because I think he's got a team of, you know, not only underachievers,
00:30:50I think he's got poor quality and I think a lot of them are guilty of failure.
00:30:55Simple as that.
00:30:57With Celtic, you know, we've already highlighted that this guy's coming in.
00:31:02He's got a good standing in America.
00:31:08People can debate the level of MLS and the quality of player and the standard of the league.
00:31:12Who knows?
00:31:13It's a better league than ours.
00:31:14Put it that way.
00:31:15Absolutely it is.
00:31:16For me it is.
00:31:17Aye.
00:31:18But I'm looking at it and I'm saying to myself,
00:31:20I genuinely think St Mirren have got a right good chance of taking Celtic on Sunday.
00:31:25I don't look at this game.
00:31:28I mean, I was there yesterday speaking to Steven Robinson,
00:31:31listening to what Marcus Fraser had to say.
00:31:33I am looking at that side and I'm saying two games I've watched...
00:31:38Why do you think that?
00:31:40I'll tell you what.
00:31:41Well, because I've been at the two games that St Mirren played Celtic.
00:31:44And the last one, I mean, St Mirren absolutely matched them.
00:31:50They had good chances to win the game as well.
00:31:52Celtic relied on a last minute stroke of genius from Callum McGregor.
00:31:57This team can have a go at them.
00:32:00This team can press them.
00:32:01This team can take a leaf out of Derek McInnes' book.
00:32:04This team can take a leaf out of Roma's to an extent as well and say,
00:32:08if you can get bodies into that six yard area, Celtic central defence will make a mistake.
00:32:13And if they have to exploit a manager who's going to stick with, as you said, his formation,
00:32:19this is probably the earliest point where they can get maybe the players not buying into it,
00:32:24maybe the weaknesses of this new system.
00:32:27St Mirren have got a real chance, as do I think hearts have,
00:32:31because they are going to spend in that window.
00:32:34Yeah, I think if you're Steven Robertson, you're watching that game last night,
00:32:37you're praying it sticks with this system.
00:32:39The 3-4-3, I think St Mirren with the two strikers will run on those channels all day.
00:32:43You've got Tenekti and Yang playing in the wide areas, Peter, who can't defend.
00:32:46And they're that deep.
00:32:49They're getting isolated from Maeda.
00:32:51The 3-4-3 just doesn't work.
00:32:53It just doesn't work with that personnel that Celtic have got at the minute.
00:32:56Negrin last night was all over.
00:32:57I didn't know where he was playing.
00:32:58I didn't know what position he was playing.
00:33:00He was popping up on the left, popping up on the right.
00:33:02There were spaces everywhere.
00:33:03I think if you're St Mirren and you're watching that game last night,
00:33:05you're rubbing your hands,
00:33:06you think we'll just get crosses in the box.
00:33:07We'll stick the ball down the channels,
00:33:09in between Yang and Tierney,
00:33:11or Trusty and Tenekti, whoever plays in that other line,
00:33:14and we'll get joy all day.
00:33:15We'll put crosses into the box and they can't defend.
00:33:17So, I just think he's got to be flexible, Wilfred Nonsi.
00:33:22I just don't think this 3-4-3 is working.
00:33:24I think he's got to get players playing in positions that they're comfortable with.
00:33:27And I think last night showed that the players are not comfortable playing the positions
00:33:30they've been asked at the minute.
00:33:31Yeah, I also think, you know, he is going to have to rely on somebody
00:33:39coming up with another Callum McGregor moment.
00:33:42Because I look at St Mirren, I mean, he's obviously mentioned to us yesterday,
00:33:47he's not going to take a chance with Mark Ahara.
00:33:50Mark Ahara is trained and he'll obviously get a place on the bench.
00:33:53He's been really good in the midfield for them.
00:33:55But they've got other players there,
00:33:56Mandarine, Ayunga and Lundaloo.
00:34:01They can cause problems for them.
00:34:03Phillips is a good example as well of players that can get at them.
00:34:07And Gogich I like, because I like somebody who's a strapper.
00:34:10Yeah, I like that.
00:34:11If I'm in the St Mirren camp, you're definitely going to say, look,
00:34:14OK, we're getting them possibly at the right time.
00:34:17But again, it's what Celtic team turn up and how he shuffles it.
00:34:21I don't think he's got much to shuffle.
00:34:23I think he's got to play the centre-forward and put Maida wide.
00:34:28Maida as a centre-forward is not working to get them out wide
00:34:33and get them hitting with pace.
00:34:35But although St Mirren won last week, they hadn't won for a while.
00:34:40They weren't in great form, apart from that win last week.
00:34:44They'd done a right bad run.
00:34:45I don't think they'd won a game for about five or six games.
00:34:47So they were working through a wee bit of a bad time as well.
00:34:50But for me, again, it's all about turning up on the day.
00:34:54And I think we'll get a better idea when we see the team's elections.
00:34:57But you're right.
00:34:58I've said all along that St Mirren are a team I wouldn't want to be in a fight with.
00:35:02I think as well, Peter, with St Mirren, I think that Steve Robertson
00:35:05would have watched the Hearts game with Derek McInnes.
00:35:07And Derek McInnes got his tactics spot on.
00:35:09You know, he forced Celtic wide just to cross it into the box.
00:35:11We've got two big centre-halves in here.
00:35:13We'll header it away all day.
00:35:14St Mirren are summer, they play 3-5-2.
00:35:16And they'll just go, get the ball in the wide area,
00:35:19Celtic, cross it into Maida, cross it into and actually we'll defend it all day.
00:35:22So I would fear the worst if St Mirren scored first.
00:35:25Because I think that St Mirren will just sit in and be hard to break down,
00:35:28much like Hearts where I'm trying to hit in a counter-attack.
00:35:30If Celtic get the first goal, obviously St Mirren need to come out a little bit.
00:35:33So first goal is massive in any game.
00:35:35But I think this final, I think it's really important for either team.
00:35:38Yeah.
00:35:39I mean, I did mention that obviously to Marcus Fraser as well.
00:35:42He's been there, won it with Ross County, a cup, and a little bit older and wiser in the head.
00:35:48And I think, you know, with the experience they have in the team and Steven Robinson's ability to manage and say,
00:35:55hey, listen, and it's interesting you talking about fear, you know, he's basically going to deliver the fans line,
00:36:03which is on some of the t-shirts, which is faith over fear.
00:36:07Have a belief in what the, you know, the other players you've got around you.
00:36:10Have a goal.
00:36:11First goal is crucial, which they highlighted yesterday at the press conference.
00:36:14But I look at it and I think this has got another feel of an Aberdeen Cup final.
00:36:20I think this is an extra time and who knows, penalties.
00:36:24The best chance I think Celtic have got is something a wee bit out of the ordinary from someone
00:36:29because they are not, they're not looking good at the moment.
00:36:33I cannot believe the change dramatically from this downtrodden, lacking in confidence team under Brendan Rodgers
00:36:44to Martin plugging them in again and then it's almost as if somebody's taking the plug out.
00:36:49Yeah, plus the confidence is low as well, Peter.
00:36:51I think in the Celtic players you're not used to losing two games in a row.
00:36:54You know, you've been hammered last night.
00:36:56You're going into this final, your confidence is not particularly high.
00:36:59There's not a lot of players that are playing really out their skin at the minute.
00:37:02Alan McGregor has been probably, him and Scales have been the most consistent players.
00:37:06So, the confidence is low as well.
00:37:07So, I think it's a St Mirren fan.
00:37:09You couldn't be getting Celtic at a better time.
00:37:11You couldn't be getting them at a better time than Sunday.
00:37:13The good thing for the St Mirren players are they've been to Hampden.
00:37:16They've experienced a semi-final.
00:37:18They've won against Motherwell.
00:37:20I think that's a big, big thing when you know,
00:37:22because a lot of these players probably never been to Hampden.
00:37:24And once you've been there and you've been in the dressing rooms
00:37:27and you've been on the park and you've got a win,
00:37:29turning up in the final is a lot easier than not being there before.
00:37:34Okay, that was a lovely little bit of confidence
00:37:36that you have instilled in most of the people from Paisley.
00:37:38But the great thing about me living in Paisley,
00:37:40we can always, and excuse the language here,
00:37:42we can always spot a bullshitter.
00:37:44So, give us your prediction.
00:37:46I think a really, really tight game, but I think Celtic will win.
00:37:512-1.
00:37:532-1 Celtic.
00:37:54A really tight game.
00:37:55Oh, really tight. What tight?
00:37:56Are the tightest 2-1 that you've known?
00:37:58We've won each with about five minutes to go.
00:38:00And maybe any extra time or something like that.
00:38:02Alright, okay.
00:38:03I can see a wee upset, Peter.
00:38:04I'm going St Mirren in penalties.
00:38:05I just, I watched that Celtic team last night.
00:38:08I watched them against Hearts.
00:38:09Something not quite right at the minute.
00:38:11And I think if he sticks with the 3-4-3
00:38:14and the two wingers playing as kind of wing-backy type,
00:38:18I think St Mirren will have a field day.
00:38:20So, I think St Mirren will win a cup.
00:38:22I'll go for 2-1 at St Mirren.
00:38:2490 minutes?
00:38:2590 minutes, yeah.
00:38:26I think they might win it in penalties.
00:38:28There you are.
00:38:29You got an opinion.
00:38:30Give us your opinion.
00:38:31What do you think?
00:38:32Celtic fans out there,
00:38:33are you as downtrodden as many looked in the panning
00:38:37round the stadium midway through the game?
00:38:39Or do you think they'll rise to the occasion
00:38:42to quote an old Climey Fisher song
00:38:45and win the cup?
00:38:46Or is it a day when not only St Mirren win the cup,
00:38:49but as ever with these things roughy,
00:38:52when it's not Celtic and Rangers,
00:38:54like Aberdeen,
00:38:55you get a chance to go on an open-top bus,
00:38:57drive around Paisley,
00:38:59wave to everybody.
00:39:01It's incredible.
00:39:03You know, unfortunately,
00:39:04when we won it,
00:39:05we parted at Thistle,
00:39:06we didn't have an open-top bus,
00:39:07we just had a single decker.
00:39:09Was there no trams now,
00:39:10back in the thing?
00:39:11Yeah.
00:39:12A single decker.
00:39:13I'll never forget, Robbie.
00:39:16Penny Falling.
00:39:17And there wasn't anybody there
00:39:18when we got back to the park, so...
00:39:22There you are,
00:39:23waving to nobody.
00:39:24Yes, nobody there.
00:39:25Where were they?
00:39:26I don't know,
00:39:27they just didn't expect us to win it.
00:39:29And we were to go back,
00:39:30we'd left all our clothes at the park,
00:39:32and we went back there,
00:39:33and there was nobody to let us in.
00:39:35Well, yesterday I was speaking...
00:39:37Yesterday I was speaking to Lee Mayer,
00:39:42and he said, you know,
00:39:43it's just incredible,
00:39:44because in 2013,
00:39:45you know,
00:39:46bloody hell,
00:39:47I mean, St Mirren had a good sign in 2013,
00:39:49and Jim Goodwin,
00:39:50you know,
00:39:51round about Paisley with the cup,
00:39:53it's something...
00:39:54And to be fair,
00:39:55it gives you a chance,
00:39:56and this is where Stephen Robinson
00:39:58will be able to deliver that speech,
00:40:00as if to say,
00:40:01we walk in every day,
00:40:02and we see the images of the
00:40:041987 Scottish Cup final team,
00:40:06we've seen the 2013 team,
00:40:08this is your chance to get your photograph
00:40:09up on that wall.
00:40:10You'll be remembered forever.
00:40:11Yeah, it's a once in a lifetime opportunity.
00:40:13I mean, I played in a few finals myself,
00:40:14I was never fortunate to win one,
00:40:16but I think if you're a player outside the old firm,
00:40:18I think it's more sweeter,
00:40:19you know,
00:40:20because as you said,
00:40:21if you're Hibs, Harts,
00:40:22you know, St Mirren, Aberdeen,
00:40:23open top bus,
00:40:24you know,
00:40:25the whole city,
00:40:26the whole town's proud of you,
00:40:27when you get your day in the sun,
00:40:28so,
00:40:29and I think if you're a St Mirren player,
00:40:30you're looking at this Celtic team at the minute,
00:40:32new manager,
00:40:33you know,
00:40:34and I think,
00:40:35what an opportunity for us to go,
00:40:36it's not as if you're going to play a top Celtic team,
00:40:38but you're thinking you have no chance,
00:40:40I think St Mirren have got a massive chance to win it.
00:40:42I haven't heard anybody talking about the ticket allocation,
00:40:44have they taken up a few number of tickets?
00:40:46It's good.
00:40:48It's absolutely fantastic,
00:40:49the St Mirren fans have responded big time to it,
00:40:51I think they deserve credit.
00:40:53Yep.
00:40:54And it adds to the atmosphere of a cup final,
00:40:56the colours.
00:40:57Yeah, absolutely.
00:40:58Interestingly enough,
00:40:59I was speaking to Keith Lasley yesterday,
00:41:01and again,
00:41:02you know,
00:41:03obviously in response to some clubs,
00:41:04and I was critical of Hibs last week,
00:41:06with the one section for Celtic fans,
00:41:09huge empty area,
00:41:11and then,
00:41:12you know,
00:41:13splattering of about 50 Hibs fans in that area behind the goal.
00:41:16And I'm thinking,
00:41:17you know,
00:41:18as a business decision,
00:41:19why not take the money?
00:41:20Why not,
00:41:21you know,
00:41:22take that money for you,
00:41:23for the Booster Club's coffers?
00:41:25And Keith says,
00:41:26you know,
00:41:27that they've been,
00:41:28they've been rewarded for sticking by their own fans.
00:41:30They've done the same.
00:41:31And they've got a 25% increase in season ticket sales,
00:41:36uptake in tickets,
00:41:37because they responded to the wishes of their fans.
00:41:40And I stand corrected to a degree,
00:41:43because some clubs,
00:41:44I think,
00:41:45cut off their nose to spite their face.
00:41:46But, you know,
00:41:47Keith does a great job there at St Mirren,
00:41:49and he said,
00:41:50no, no,
00:41:51our fans have backed us and said,
00:41:52we'll have the three ends,
00:41:53you can have one end.
00:41:54Yeah, because you've got supporters
00:41:55who'll be moaning about the massive allocation of Celtic Rangers supporters,
00:41:58and then the club will put the onus on to them.
00:42:00Well, okay.
00:42:01You know,
00:42:02we'll cut their allocation,
00:42:03but you need to buy the tickets.
00:42:04And St Mirren did that.
00:42:05And St Mirren have done that.
00:42:06And I think Hibs and Harts have done it as well,
00:42:07to be fair.
00:42:08And, you know,
00:42:09you look after your own supporters first.
00:42:10And obviously,
00:42:11I've always said,
00:42:12I think a bigger allocation away from home,
00:42:14gives a wee team a bigger boost.
00:42:15I think if you're shooting into 2,000 rather than 200.
00:42:17I think you've got to give the St Mirren supporters a lot of credit.
00:42:19Because at the early bit,
00:42:20before they started giving the stand,
00:42:22they were getting away two thirds of their ground.
00:42:24Yeah.
00:42:25And they went to the fans and said,
00:42:26look,
00:42:27we need the revenue.
00:42:28If you want to buy into this,
00:42:29you'll get better players.
00:42:31And it's worked.
00:42:32Okay.
00:42:33That's the Premier Sports Cup final on Sunday.
00:42:37Give us your thoughts.
00:42:38Who's going to win it?
00:42:39Give us your prediction.
00:42:40I'll even allow you,
00:42:41if you're putting it in the live feed,
00:42:42to do a roughy,
00:42:43compliment the other side,
00:42:44and then say,
00:42:45the other team's going to win.
00:42:47There's three league games on the Saturday,
00:42:50one on the Sunday.
00:42:51And Harts have a chance to go six points clear,
00:42:54if they can defeat Falkirk at eight o'clock on a Saturday night.
00:42:58I enjoyed it last week.
00:42:59I thought it was a good time.
00:43:00Did you like that?
00:43:01Eight o'clock on a Saturday night.
00:43:02I thought it was a good kickoff time.
00:43:03I used to start getting ready to go out at eight o'clock.
00:43:07And then ten o'clock.
00:43:08It'd kill you if you ever went a night out after it.
00:43:09I was just about to say.
00:43:10The Saturday night was done.
00:43:11Ah, but you went out to a pub, didn't you?
00:43:13I was out last week in the Merchant City,
00:43:14watching the Commandant Rangers game.
00:43:15It was great.
00:43:16I enjoyed it.
00:43:17Yeah.
00:43:18I think it was a good kickoff time.
00:43:19Something different.
00:43:20Saturday night.
00:43:21Not roughly a year.
00:43:22No.
00:43:23You're just sort of building yourself in for the World Cup
00:43:25for the two in the morning one.
00:43:26Yeah.
00:43:27Absolutely.
00:43:28That's another story coming shortly.
00:43:30Yeah.
00:43:31Well, listen, it's Falkirk Harts.
00:43:33And again, you know, my sources tell me that if they're in the mix,
00:43:38they're going to be spending some money.
00:43:40I mean, I'm not talking millions, but they're going to spend some money
00:43:43giving Derek McInnes a right chance if they get to January and they're in the mix.
00:43:48And I think they will be in the mix.
00:43:50You know, it was a great win last week.
00:43:52This boy, Islam Chernikov, is arriving next week.
00:43:55Beningamy is back training.
00:43:58And some of the other players, as you, maybe a couple of weeks away.
00:44:02But they've got good players.
00:44:04And although, you know, Falkirk, again, I stand correct.
00:44:07There are a number of Falkirk fans, every time I meet them,
00:44:09they're absolutely giving me pelters for suggesting.
00:44:12My mate's a Falkirk fan who just says you never give them any credit.
00:44:15Yeah.
00:44:16Well, one defeat in six games.
00:44:17They're seventh.
00:44:18They've got 21 points.
00:44:19They won't be relegated in my book now.
00:44:21But they're going to get cuffed.
00:44:24Yeah.
00:44:25Obviously, I think the boost in confidence Harts must get from that result.
00:44:28And performance against Celtic at Parkhead last week must be enormous.
00:44:31The training this week will be buzzing.
00:44:33They'll all be desperate to get for this game.
00:44:35Falkirk will be tricky.
00:44:37I think they've had a really, really good season.
00:44:39But I just think Harts will win this game.
00:44:41I think that...
00:44:42Yeah, you're right.
00:44:43I think when you look at both Celtic and Rangers, both imploding off the pitch.
00:44:47Both onto their second manager already.
00:44:49You know, the stars are aligning for Harts to win the league.
00:44:52I don't know if they're going to do that.
00:44:53But they'll never get a better opportunity than the way the current old firmer are playing
00:44:57and the strength and depth they've got at the minute in their squad.
00:44:59So, yeah, I think Harts will win this.
00:45:01And I think they'll go six points clear.
00:45:03I think if you're Derek McInnes, nobody out there needs to second guess his team talk.
00:45:09It's, by the way, before you get onto that pitch, if you lose to Falkirk, last week means nothing.
00:45:17Have you got what it takes to win the league?
00:45:19Yeah, I mean, that will be the momentum.
00:45:21As Tam said, the place will be a high.
00:45:23Every player in the pool will want to be playing.
00:45:26Everybody will want to be active.
00:45:28They'll know they'll get a tough game against Falkirk.
00:45:31I think the best Falkirk could get out of this would be a draw.
00:45:34But they'll make it hard for Harts.
00:45:36You know, obviously the surface will be...
00:45:38I think their surface is quite good.
00:45:40I think it's as bad as Kilmarnock's.
00:45:41So the Harts players shouldn't have a problem with that.
00:45:46I've been impressed with Falkirk this year.
00:45:49I know away from home they're more likely to get beat,
00:45:52but at home they seem to have players that can dig in and get something out of it.
00:45:56I think it'll be difficult.
00:45:57I'd love to say one each, but I think Harts will win it.
00:46:00Okay.
00:46:01Kenny says Falkirk may get a draw.
00:46:04Kenny's out there in LA.
00:46:05Is LA near Miami?
00:46:07No.
00:46:08Exactly.
00:46:09And Franny says Falkirk are playing well.
00:46:12We accept that.
00:46:13Joseph says, much like St Mirren,
00:46:15Harts won't get a better chance to win the league.
00:46:20Yeah, absolutely.
00:46:21And we have another Celtic fan who says Falkirk won.
00:46:25PLZ's fanboys won.
00:46:27That might be my mate.
00:46:28Big Gordon.
00:46:29Yeah, it could be.
00:46:31And Sean says, here we go.
00:46:33Harts are going to win the league.
00:46:34Sean, it's all about opinions.
00:46:37Give us yours.
00:46:38Okay.
00:46:39Harts to win 2-1.
00:46:423-2 at Harts.
00:46:432-1 Harts.
00:46:44Okay.
00:46:46There's a couple of other really interesting games, good games.
00:46:49One of them, Dundee United against Motherwell.
00:46:51I'm going to be heading up to the City of Discovery.
00:46:54I've been in Dundee more times than some people who actually live there
00:46:57to see their parents at Christmas, Ruffy.
00:46:59So, Dundee United against Motherwell.
00:47:01United, no wins in six games, three defeats.
00:47:04You're up to see Motherwell, aren't you, really?
00:47:06That's exactly...
00:47:08I'm not going to lie.
00:47:09I mean, you can't fool the punters.
00:47:10I'm going up to see Motherwell.
00:47:11Ask who's fanboy.
00:47:12I am.
00:47:13I really am Ask who's fanboy because I just...
00:47:16Do you know what?
00:47:17I love watching Motherwell.
00:47:19In this poor league that we have, Ruffy, it's competitive.
00:47:23They are.
00:47:24They are.
00:47:25And they're a joy to watch.
00:47:26They play football the way you love to.
00:47:28Do you know what it's like?
00:47:29It's like watching a great five-a-side game.
00:47:32That's what it's like.
00:47:33They play five...
00:47:34It's like playing a five-a-side team.
00:47:35That's the way they play football.
00:47:37Yeah, and obviously if you're a fan, that's what you want to see.
00:47:40Your team playing that kind of football.
00:47:42But you also want to see them winning games.
00:47:44And as long as they keep winning games and playing that style of football,
00:47:47everybody will be happy.
00:47:49I don't know what's happened to Dundee United.
00:47:51They have, as you've just said, they went off the boil.
00:47:54But I still think they've got players at home that can hurt Motherwell.
00:47:58I think that's going to be another wee tester for Motherwell.
00:48:01I'm going to go for Dundee United in this.
00:48:03What?
00:48:04Yeah, I think they can turn the corner on this one.
00:48:06Why? What heavens have you seen?
00:48:07Well, I think...
00:48:08Is it just a league up for you?
00:48:09No, no, no.
00:48:10If the goalkeeper stops throwing goals in the back of the net...
00:48:13It's still the same goalie.
00:48:14No, but he's thinking about changing it.
00:48:16He's changed the other one.
00:48:17He's thrown them in or not?
00:48:18No, he's not too bad.
00:48:19Was it the third one?
00:48:20No, no.
00:48:21He's changed the goalie.
00:48:22The other boy, Kucharenko, was just a bomb scare.
00:48:23I think they're just the wee wobble that every other team in this league does
00:48:27and now we're going to go Dundee United to win 2-1.
00:48:29Yeah?
00:48:30Mm-hmm.
00:48:31That's an interesting one.
00:48:32They've only scored four goals.
00:48:33They've conceded 11.
00:48:34Mm-hmm.
00:48:35And I'll tell you right now, unbeaten in six games,
00:48:37Motherwell's third on the table.
00:48:39And, you know, Elliot Watt, for me, he's going to be in the top three
00:48:45for player of the year.
00:48:46I'm trying to think who the other two are that are going to join him,
00:48:49but he's been absolutely brilliant.
00:48:51He's got the point from Kenny.
00:48:52He says, Peter, you're at Tannerdice.
00:48:54You're always there.
00:48:55There's a free pies.
00:48:56It's an interesting point you make, Kenny, because sometimes if they bring them in at
00:49:00the main bit of the press box...
00:49:01The wee mini steak ones.
00:49:02Oh, fantastic, aren't they?
00:49:03They're nice, aren't they?
00:49:04They're nice, aren't they?
00:49:05Absolutely fantastic.
00:49:06I wonder if Killie pies...
00:49:08You get a roll in it?
00:49:09You get a roll pie up there?
00:49:10You stick it in your roll in Dundee?
00:49:11Is that right?
00:49:12You get a roll pie.
00:49:13Aye, roll pie.
00:49:14In an earlier life, myself and your old pal, big DJ.
00:49:20Oh yeah, DJ.
00:49:21We'd had a tour of Scotland.
00:49:24We went to every Premier League club from Inverness all the way down and tested their pies.
00:49:31Wow.
00:49:32In a day.
00:49:33In a day?
00:49:34In a day.
00:49:35You two fat morons.
00:49:39All the way down to Inverness.
00:49:41Who was the best pie?
00:49:43Hartz?
00:49:44No, Hartz pie.
00:49:45Hartz is a good pie.
00:49:46Aye, Hartz one.
00:49:47Hartz is a good pie, yeah.
00:49:48But Kelly's is a great pie.
00:49:49Yes, yes, you're right.
00:49:50You're right.
00:49:51I like Kelly pie.
00:49:52And up at Tanadice, absolutely fantastic.
00:49:55Mark and Jim, who looks after the press box.
00:49:58Always great lads.
00:50:00I'm going to go Motherwell to win it 3-1.
00:50:02Yeah, I fancy Motherwell strongly.
00:50:03I've been really impressed with them.
00:50:04And the thing for me is, they can make five, six, seven changes and they just come in
00:50:10and it's seamless, Peter.
00:50:11They're all playing at the same.
00:50:13I think you two need to back up this weekend.
00:50:16A St Myrne Motherwell double for you two.
00:50:19Against you?
00:50:20Well, what is going on too?
00:50:22I'm going Celtic in Dundee United.
00:50:23I'm going Celtic in Dundee United.
00:50:24Yeah.
00:50:25We might see who comes out.
00:50:26What about a wee dinner?
00:50:27I think Ruffy Ordosa's one, do you know?
00:50:29Yeah.
00:50:30No, I don't.
00:50:31I've no idea.
00:50:32You nearly had it here, Tam.
00:50:33What about a wee dinner?
00:50:34Yes.
00:50:35Right.
00:50:36How do we work this out if it doesn't go 2-2 or whatever?
00:50:38Oh, it's null and void then.
00:50:39Oh, right.
00:50:40Okay.
00:50:41I fancy Motherwell 2-1.
00:50:42Right.
00:50:43We're actually up against it here, Tam.
00:50:45Aye.
00:50:46We've taken Motherwell and St Mirren.
00:50:47Aye.
00:50:48We're up against it.
00:50:49We're up against it a minute because you're confident I'm going to go sit down in Motherwell
00:50:543-2.
00:50:55Wait a minute.
00:50:56We'll take the bet.
00:50:57We're taking the bet.
00:50:58Is it a wee Italian restaurant or is it in the town?
00:51:01Probably in the town.
00:51:02Yeah?
00:51:03Yeah.
00:51:04Fantastic.
00:51:05Okay.
00:51:06Fantastic.
00:51:07Let's see if we can get the Regana open again.
00:51:08Fancy Motherwell, strongly.
00:51:09Yeah.
00:51:10Okay.
00:51:11Livingston against Dundee.
00:51:12Now, this is massive because it's 14 with 4 draws and 10 defeats.
00:51:18Livy not in a good place.
00:51:20And also, despite the fact he's earmarked a couple of players in January, he's also got
00:51:25a couple of lone players that could leave him David Martindale.
00:51:28He's up against it.
00:51:29I don't know what Ruffy's going to say here.
00:51:30No, you don't.
00:51:31Aye, are they.
00:51:32They've got to do the same as Dundee 90.
00:51:33They're going to go.
00:51:34No.
00:51:35Livingston to win.
00:51:36With no basis whatsoever, just because they'll do it.
00:51:37No, I'm going to make an opinion about it.
00:51:40Old one.
00:51:41If Livingston don't win this game, they're relegated.
00:51:45They're gone.
00:51:46Yeah.
00:51:47If they can't win this game, they're gone.
00:51:49So, what's your prediction?
00:51:50You've got to pick Livingston to win, haven't you?
00:51:55We like David Martindale.
00:51:56I like David, right.
00:51:57I mean, that's just the basis.
00:52:00You're just basing on who you like.
00:52:02No wins in 14.
00:52:03I think he's under a bit of pressure, you can see now.
00:52:05He's under pressure before he got to this game.
00:52:07No wins in 14, Livingston.
00:52:08No wins in 14, Livingston.
00:52:09You know, I can get him.
00:52:10Right.
00:52:11What's your prediction about?
00:52:12Could you give us a week?
00:52:13Can I just say something to you?
00:52:14See, before your prediction, right?
00:52:15Right.
00:52:16Because we've really kind of put ourselves out on the edge here.
00:52:19Do you want to make it a treble?
00:52:21And you go Livingston.
00:52:22Because I know you're going to go Livingston.
00:52:23I'm going to go Livingston.
00:52:24I knew he was going to do it.
00:52:25I knew he was going to do it.
00:52:26So, you go Livingston.
00:52:27Right.
00:52:28Celtic.
00:52:29And...
00:52:30Dundee United.
00:52:31Dundee United.
00:52:32That's alright for us, Tom.
00:52:33Right, right.
00:52:34And we'll go Dundee.
00:52:35St. Murnaud.
00:52:36St. Murnaud and Mullow.
00:52:37Is that okay?
00:52:38Right.
00:52:39That's a good treble.
00:52:40So why do you think Livingston's got no wins in 14?
00:52:42What is your basis for them going?
00:52:43Every team's got every week.
00:52:44Do you think they're due a win?
00:52:45Yeah.
00:52:46Well, you know like it is when you go on a bad run.
00:52:49You've been at teams like that most of your career.
00:52:51It's got to turn there.
00:52:54There's a wee game.
00:52:55Did you think that game when you're playing hearts all the time?
00:52:57You never won a game in about six years?
00:52:59No, no.
00:53:00I keep saying it's got to happen.
00:53:01And it never?
00:53:02It never happened.
00:53:03Well, I'm looking at Dundee.
00:53:06One win in seven games.
00:53:08It's not great for them.
00:53:09By the way, interestingly enough, I did look at the stat and I read it in one of the papers.
00:53:13I think it was this morning.
00:53:14Simon Murray's only scored one goal in the league.
00:53:17And that tells its own story.
00:53:19Because, if anything, Tam, when you're in that bottom three, and I'm looking at Kilmarnock,
00:53:23and I'm looking at Livingston, and I'm looking at Dundee.
00:53:26Simon Murray saved Dundee last season.
00:53:28I think he scored something like 16 goals.
00:53:30Stopped him getting relegated.
00:53:32Yeah, if he's not scoring, Peter, you're going to be struggling for somebody else to score goals.
00:53:37And I just don't think Dundee's recruitment.
00:53:39I think, obviously, they lost a lot of good players.
00:53:41You know, the three players, Lyle Cameron, Mulligan and McCown.
00:53:44You know, that's big players.
00:53:46Adeyemi, the boy who went back on loan.
00:53:48The full-back from Liverpool.
00:53:50They lost a lot of good players.
00:53:52Just to interrupt you there.
00:53:53What's happened to him?
00:53:54Who?
00:53:55That full-back from Liverpool as he went out somewhere.
00:53:58I don't know.
00:53:59I don't know.
00:54:00The boy we're talking about.
00:54:01Beck?
00:54:02Yeah.
00:54:03I don't know.
00:54:04Did Celtic, though?
00:54:05They were interested.
00:54:06They were interested.
00:54:07But I just think Dundee have lost so many goals,
00:54:09and they've not replaced them with anywhere near the same quality.
00:54:11So this game brings back PTSD for me,
00:54:14because I've played relegated at limits in the last game of the season for Dundee.
00:54:18That's my point.
00:54:19Yeah.
00:54:20I know what...
00:54:21This will bring a lot of bad memories back for Dundee supporters,
00:54:23me even talking about this, but I think Dundee can go and get a result.
00:54:27I'm going to go for 2-1 at Dundee.
00:54:29Yeah.
00:54:30I mean, I'm going to take Dundee on 2-1,
00:54:32but I do think it's got a draw written off.
00:54:34It's a game neither wants to lose.
00:54:37I think a point wouldn't be...
00:54:38Neither would be too disappointed.
00:54:40Yeah.
00:54:41What about the Dundee Dons against Kilmarnock?
00:54:42This one here, Stuart Kettlewell's side,
00:54:44seven defeats and nine, two draws,
00:54:47and they've got not only the Dons,
00:54:49they've got Falkirk, St Mirren, and Dundee.
00:54:51If you're talking about Livingston being in trouble,
00:54:54I think Kilmarnock need to seriously over the next four games
00:54:58take some points to suggest that they can stop the rot.
00:55:02Well, you can tell that they're under a wee bit of pressure
00:55:05if Stuart Kettlewell starts kicking bottles of water.
00:55:08You know, he lost it completely last week.
00:55:10It's not the thing you see with him.
00:55:12He usually keeps himself quite controlled,
00:55:14so he's obviously feeling the pressure.
00:55:16There's no doubt about that.
00:55:18I mean, I don't think Kilmarnock are a team
00:55:19that should be dropping out of division.
00:55:21I think they've got very well run,
00:55:23they've got good support,
00:55:24and they've also got some good players.
00:55:26So, does the midweek game with Aberdeen affect this game?
00:55:32I just think Kilmarnock are going as well,
00:55:35so I'm going to go Aberdeen.
00:55:37Yeah. Aurora says,
00:55:38it must be the last five minutes of the show
00:55:40you're going to talk about the Dons game.
00:55:42We talked about Aberdeen for about ten minutes
00:55:44at the start of the show.
00:55:45Did you not listen?
00:55:47We did talk about the Dandy Dons.
00:55:49It's a clear Aberdeen bias.
00:55:50Yes, absolutely.
00:55:52Aurora, I need you to retract that statement
00:55:55because we have talked about Aberdeen,
00:55:56and I am going to back them
00:55:58because I think,
00:55:59I think Aberdeen,
00:56:01two things that stick in my mind.
00:56:02One is, I think we have mentioned the fact
00:56:05that I think the board have done well.
00:56:06They've backed them.
00:56:07They've got quality players.
00:56:08Lazatic missed a sitter the other night,
00:56:10yesterday.
00:56:11He scored a couple of good goals.
00:56:14I think they've got enough quality.
00:56:16I think they've got more than enough quality
00:56:17to defeat Kilmarnock.
00:56:18Yeah.
00:56:19Aberdeen have picked up, really,
00:56:21domestically.
00:56:22They've picked up a great result last week.
00:56:24Kevin Isbeth's backscoring goals.
00:56:26Yeah, I think they've got too many good players,
00:56:29and I think they'll continue to climb the table
00:56:30and really push for the,
00:56:32for the top four or five.
00:56:33So, Cermarnock,
00:56:34I didn't think they were that bad last.
00:56:35I thought 3-0 Flard, Rangers.
00:56:36Yeah.
00:56:37I thought Cermarnock did a lot of the game,
00:56:38but...
00:56:392-0 Aberdeen.
00:56:40That was a super-strike thing,
00:56:41isn't it?
00:56:42Oh look, great goal.
00:56:43That's a great goal.
00:56:44No, great goal.
00:56:45Yeah.
00:56:4618 yards outside of the foot.
00:56:47You were there when I did it.
00:56:48Where?
00:56:49Cumbernauld.
00:56:53What is it called?
00:56:54You drove up in your car,
00:56:55I hit it from 30 yards,
00:56:56and then you get back in the car and left.
00:56:57Oh yeah.
00:56:58You put it with outside of the foot.
00:57:00The goalie had a patch in his island.
00:57:02Aye.
00:57:03Roughly was thinking about
00:57:04Zico the last bit outside of the foot.
00:57:05Absolutely.
00:57:07I listened to somebody,
00:57:08somebody mentioned to me the whole Zico affair,
00:57:10we're going to talk about that quickly,
00:57:11but...
00:57:122-0 I think.
00:57:132-0.
00:57:14Yeah, 2-0 Aberdeen.
00:57:15Will the Glasgow and beat Rangers on Monday night?
00:57:17Can they?
00:57:18Yes.
00:57:19Will they?
00:57:20Probably not,
00:57:21because they haven't turned up at all against Rangers this season.
00:57:24So not really able to replicate what Hearts are doing?
00:57:27Yeah, until...
00:57:28You said it in your column.
00:57:29I did.
00:57:30Until Hibs start turning over a Celtic Rangers Hearts.
00:57:33Even at Motherwell,
00:57:34they've took one point after them,
00:57:36out of 15 or something,
00:57:37so...
00:57:38They need to go and take a Scalp Hibs,
00:57:40and they need to go and do it Monday night.
00:57:43But I think it'll be a draw.
00:57:44So do I.
00:57:451-1.
00:57:46The Rangers will win that.
00:57:47Yeah.
00:57:48Okay.
00:57:49Not going to argue with you on that.
00:57:52For those who did,
00:57:53I was talking to somebody who was mentioning about your Zico goal the other day,
00:57:56and I said, listen, I know we joke with him,
00:57:58but go back and look at Zico's goal against Ruffey in 1982 in the World Cup.
00:58:02Yeah.
00:58:03And it's right in the postage stamp.
00:58:05There's not a goalkeeper in the world would have saved it.
00:58:07Tan sent me...
00:58:08You sent me a video, didn't you?
00:58:09Did I?
00:58:10What age was Zico?
00:58:11He made three kicks.
00:58:1260 odds.
00:58:1360 odds.
00:58:14It's a...
00:58:15It's a...
00:58:16Montage of him scoring goals.
00:58:17Yeah.
00:58:18Against...
00:58:19In Brazil and everywhere,
00:58:20and obviously against me.
00:58:21Yeah.
00:58:22But he's on the training partner.
00:58:23He's 64.
00:58:24And a goalie.
00:58:25And he's still...
00:58:26He's still...
00:58:27Just out of curiosity, before we finish,
00:58:29I've got to say,
00:58:30the ticket prices, Scotland games, ridiculous.
00:58:33Haiti, £134.
00:58:35That's the base price.
00:58:36Category 2 is £298.
00:58:38Category 1 is £373.
00:58:42£373 for the game against Haiti.
00:58:45And what are we talking?
00:58:464,000 Tartan Army fans, maybe a wee bit more.
00:58:49Morocco, £164.
00:58:51Then the Category 2 ticket for that game is £320.
00:58:55Category 1 is £447.
00:58:59And then Brazil, this is for the cheapest, £197.50.
00:59:06Category 2, £373.
00:59:08And Category 1, £522.
00:59:12And if, as we expect, Scotland get to the final, Ruffy,
00:59:16it's £3,000 for a base ticket and then £6,500 for a half-decent one.
00:59:23Well, you can save that money and spend it in the other one.
00:59:29It's outrageous.
00:59:30I mean, you're talking about flights, hotels,
00:59:33for the Tartan Army supporter,
00:59:35a Tartan Army supporter that goes all over the Europe.
00:59:38Yeah.
00:59:39You know, that's a big hit.
00:59:40I'd be surprised if a lot of them can take that up.
00:59:43And for us, just having the flights alone now,
00:59:46because we're close to the accommodation being done...
00:59:48We need to phone John Murphy.
00:59:50Yeah, we need to get...
00:59:51Johnny's going to phone you shortly.
00:59:52Don't worry.
00:59:53We need to get an SUV that's going to be able to handle a 25-hour journey
00:59:58without the...
01:00:00I've got that in the bag as well, about the travel.
01:00:03We can stop at Washington and see Eric McAleer.
01:00:05I don't know who you've been watching.
01:00:07We can stop at Washington to see Eric McAleer,
01:00:09and we can stop at Atlanta and see John Murphy.
01:00:10We can stay with him, and then on the way down.
01:00:12I don't know who you've been watching the telly.
01:00:14We need to phone John Murphy to get it sorted.
01:00:16Face to the world, to the top of the world.
01:00:18You've been watching it.
01:00:19I can just imagine the three years with their big rucksacks.
01:00:21Can I ask you something?
01:00:23Can I ask you something?
01:00:24Just out of curiosity, I'm going to ask you this.
01:00:26He's come up trumps with the accommodation.
01:00:29I've got the flights.
01:00:30What are you bringing to the table?
01:00:32I'm just making it nice for you.
01:00:38You better get his tickets.
01:00:39Get a Hall of Fame.
01:00:40No, no, we've got a press pass.
01:00:41Hall of Fame.
01:00:42It's absolutely a disgrace, by the way.
01:00:45You need to bring something to the party, you.
01:00:49Okay.
01:00:50Food, listen.
01:00:51Anything.
01:00:52Anything.
01:00:53Been a good chat.
01:00:55Europe, not great.
01:00:57Premier Sports Cup final to look forward to.
01:00:59Lots of good domestic issues to get our teeth into.
01:01:01We're giving you an opinion.
