00:00Welcome back to Fact Space. Not all heroes wear capes. Some wear lab coats, suits, or just rolled
00:08up sleeves. Here are five people who literally saved the world. 1. Stanislav Petrov, the man who
00:16saved us from nukes. In 1983, a Soviet officer named Stanislav Petrov was on duty when his radar
00:23system warned that the US had launched five nuclear missiles. Protocol demanded he fire back,
00:28starting World War III. But Petrov trusted his gut, figured it was a computer glitch,
00:34and refused to fire. He was right. He single-handedly prevented the apocalypse.
00:402. Norman Borlaug, the man who fed the world. You might not know his name, but you likely eat
00:47because of him. Norman Borlaug was an agronomist who developed disease-resistant wheat varieties
00:52in the mid-20th century. His Green Revolution increased food production massively,
00:57saving an estimated 1 billion people from starvation. 3. Edward Jenner, the smallpox slayer.
01:06In 1796, Edward Jenner developed the world's first successful vaccine. He figured out that
01:12milkmaids who caught cowpox didn't catch smallpox. His discovery eventually led to the complete
01:17eradication of smallpox, a disease that had killed hundreds of millions of people throughout history.
01:224. Nils Bolin, the seatbelt savior. In 1959, Volvo engineer Nils Bolin invented the three-point
01:31seatbelt. But the heroic part? Volvo decided to give the patent away for free so that other car
01:38manufacturers could use it to save lives. It's estimated that his invention has saved over a
01:43million lives since then. 5. James Harrison, the man with the golden arm. James Harrison has a rare
01:51antibody in his blood that cures rhesus disease in babies. He donated blood every single week for 60
01:58years. His 1,100 donations were used to create injections that saved the lives of over 2.4 million
02:04babies, including his own grandson. One person really can make a difference. Comment in the comment
